  1. Corrections/replies: Icemarle- I got your name wrong.. I like the manga/anime Chobits-I really like Chii Leiaah-don't be afraid to speak your mind, this is venting!! No need to say sorry, and have fun! Littleweseth-hehe, funny username! and yep, I find the Comic sans font really boring and sorta lumpy too (if you get what I mean) Sprnknwn-Good for you!! I think I used the animated mailbox once too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> A short post this time. 3. Large Images A good website should be a website where the site is quick in loading. But if you have large images, you can say bye to the impatient visitors at your site. Also a good website should have a layout that is designed by the site owner, using graphics and coding all by the owner. When I see a very large image on a site, I try to look away and I also try to stop the temptation of clicking the [X] in the top right corner. The first idea I get is: this site owner cannot design or it could be he/she is so lazy. I think this because any webdesigner should of heard of the "slice" tool. (a tool used to cut an image into smaller sizes, to improve loading time and space). Slicing your image is not that difficult at all, just open up the slicing program and cut away (But remember, cut the image into reasonable sizes and by that I don't mean cutting it to 3-4 pixels per slice). Thus, your images are smaller and are quicker to download. I really dislike websites with enormous images for their layouts, it takes so long to load, I sometimes feel sorry for those webusers that have slow internet connections, they have to wait so long for the image to load. In conclusion >>if you have large images in your site layout, use the slicing tool with adobe Photoshop, Jasc paint shop pro or download a free slicer from coffecup software. Slicing the image decreases the loading time and as a result visitors might decide to stay at your site for longer to check out what it's got to offer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> Kind of short.... I guess, with 1769 characters. Thank You to everyone reading!
  2. Hmmm... interesting. Yes, I agree with quite alot of the aspects of websites that shouldn't be used, as you've mentioned. Flashy animated .gifs is my worst enemy! and flashy backgrounds---YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING! Yep, I don't like the sites with backgrounds that don't tile either, they make the website look cluttered and in a way... "cheap", if you know what I mean. Oh yes, I hate the comic sans font as well. It is so boring and to me it looks lumpy! I remember that I used the font before on my school assignments and stuff when I was in yr 7 or 8, but then I stopped using it, but I never used it on my website, it just made the site look very....uuuhh. Oh, and don't start me on javascript, that is a bad choice, I really dislike javascript because it takes a lot of time to load and also the scripts are long, once you paste them into your site, you would have to keep on scrolling to get to the point where you last edited! I try my best to avoid using javascript but I suppose sometimes it is useful when I have small spaces for navigation but other than that, it is really bad. But I totally agree with the floating snowflakes and flashing stars though. Wow, I've written quite a lot already but I am yet to finish my post though, oh well I guess I'll have to continue then.Ads! I don't like ads and especially those ads that are on your site which advertises these products and services that don't even correspond to what your site is about!! They are so stupid, but I guess, again, if they are offering free services to webusers than I guess thay do need to advertise to retain the free services. But, I mean, at least list the ads that actually has something to do with your website!!To me, I think the enter signs are OK in a way... I like the idea of creating an entrance to your site, so on that page you can list all the button rotations and credits and stuff so that you don't have to make a seperate page in your site to accomodate that info, but I do realise how irritating it is if someone has a slow internet connection and it takes them ages to load a page, but then only to find another page awaits for them to click-and load again!Pop-up layouts are quite annoying as well, because if you have pop-ups blocked and are unaware of it. You suddenly find your self clicking on this damn link for about an hour and nothing ever opens or loads, then you have the trouble of finding where your blocker is and then turning it off, and THEN clicking on the link again!I don't really like premade layouts on sites as well. You know that feeling you get when you come to this website and then you just suddenly fall in love with the content at this site and in the end you notice this very small lettering on the layout saying "Layout designed by XXXXX". You suddenly find yourself a fool to have liked such a site where the owner doesn't even know how to design a layout. And also those thousands of sites on the web that design premade layouts aren't helping webusers either, thats just encouraging people to be lazy and not unique.Wow, this post is coming into the 3100 character mark, I think I better stop, but that doesn't mean that the things about a websites I don't like has stopped, no-way! I just have to take a little rest until I start getting angry at those websites again.
  3. What is your favourite PS2/Xbox/N64/PC/Gameboy/other character(s)?My favourite character at the moment it Final Fantasy X's Yuna. She is so pretty, kind and willing to help other people. In FFX she falls in love with Tidus, which is so......bittersweet in a way. I wont say why, because I might spoil it for the other people whom haven't played it yet. Also because she is so smart, she knows how to summon aeons---HOW COOL! I wish I could do that if only it existed but.... I guess I wouldn't have the guts like her to face Sin or Yu Yevon though, again, she is so brave!I also like Rikku, also from FFX because she is so playful and because she isn't afraid to speak her mind. She and Yuna are good friends, this is seen in both FFX and FFX-2. I like her also because she is so pretty and she is so funny! Rikku reminds me of myself = funny and caring for friends. I know, I know..... game characters aren't real human beings but in the minds of many gamers. These characters do exist and they all carry their own story in the gaming world and the hearts of their fans. So who is your favourite game character? Are they a boy or girl? What is it about them that you like? Do they somewhat represent yourself in one way or another? Show your support for them by sharing them with others and on the way, get to know whom others idolise and are fond of.
  4. I've currently got The sims 2, and The Sims 2 University. The Sims 2 Nightlife, sounds COOL! I've seen some of the pictures they've posted on the Sims 2 website. Yep, I think it's the Hot Date Version of the Sims 2. I've heard that you get this date meter or something to show how your date is going and whether there is any sparks flowing! Hopefully there will be a lot more objects to buy and play with. There's also restaurants and stuff in there too, oh I can't wait till it comes out, I've been flooded with impatience! In one of the pictures that I saw, had like a car, this big elegant building at night time and also those ropes that are used outside of clubs and stuff, that type that you can open to allow the guests in and close to keep the raving fans out with!! Flashing lights, funky DJs and also a bar!! This is too good to be true! Hopefully the new expansion pack will have more clothing too, I love dressing up my sims as much as I love variety!! This is all I know at the moment from articles and images, I'm pretty sure the real thing will be a smashing hit!! Does anyone know anything more about it?
  5. Hello, my name is icylady101(Jas), and I am an 18 yr old girl who likes to speak her mind eventhough it might lead to quite disastrous events. At the moment I am located in the southern hemisphere of the world, in a little place called New Zealand (yes, the place they filmed Lord of the Rings). I like it a lot around here and I've been living here since I was 5. Before my family and I used to live in HK, but then for some reason we moved to NZ. Even I don't know why we moved. Anyway, yes I am a girl and I live in NZ, at the moment I attend university or college (depending what you call it) and I'm studying the arts of graphic designing and also I am studing web designing. The life out side of Uni is great, my friends Gina, Hannah and Sue all love to hang out and the best thing is, we all like web designing!! Well apart from Sue, she likes writing and buying shoes!!In my free time at home away from the computer I like to read and cook. At the moment I am able to bake cake and muffins. I'm yet to learn how to make cookies but I know if I spend more time off the computer I probably would learn how to make it!! At home I have two sisters whom are twins, there names are: Cath and Lina. They hardly get along with each other but then again... what sisters do? They're growing up and hopefully they will grow to like each other! I also have a cat called Toby (weird name for a cat). She is around 1 and half yrs old right now. She has yellow eyes and she is white and has these black patches on her fur.Anyway, Yup I'm a newbie at Trap 17 and currently I'm enjoying the life of posting! Send me a message, I'd be glad to make new friends!

Where does google think up these funny and new ideas?? They've also got a new mail system up too, Google mail, it's a shame that you can't sign up for it straight away. You need an invite... oh...
  7. Hey bluekirby! I know chinese, and your name is correct in chinese! It's very accurate too! Your english is lisa and when I say your name in cantonese it comes out "lee sar", which is very close to your english one! Your Lucky!
  8. Hi Icemarie, yup I totally agree, I really don't like those people whom boast a lot about their site when really their site's nothing special! I mean, I'm not saying I'm an expert at webdesigning or anything but I know that a site that types in sTiCkY cApS is nothing unique. A good website, doesn't require anyone to boast about it, people would just know that it's a good website. Anway, Yeah, I agree, my first post doesn't even sound like venting, it sounds more like, me trying to tell people what not to add to their site than venting about what I hate! Don't worry I'll try to start venting, once I see a site that really pisses me off, and trust me, there are so much sites out there that you know you'd love to burn! Oh, do you like anime/manga as well? I do too!
  9. I've apparently got nothing to do, so I guess I'll keep going on with the 2nd thing that I find a GOOD website shouldn't have. 2. CSS coded scrollbars where all the values of the scrollbar are in the same colour People with Firefox, should just ignore this because the browser shows the default scrollbar anyway. But with people whom use Internet explorer and are able to see the coloured scrollbar, keep reading if you like. Let me explain:webdesigners whom are capable of coding CSS, usually like to code the scrollbar colors so that it fits in with their site or with their site layout. But some people for some strange reason like to change the colours of their scrollbar so that all the values (track color, darkshadow color) are in the same colour. So when users visit their page they will have a see a "lovely" scrollbar where you cannot see the difference between the arrows, the face of the scrollbar and or the track colour. Thats fantastic (NOT)! Especially to those websites that have very long pages which require excessive scrolling. Most people click and drag the scrollbar on the screen to scroll down the page but unfortunately when they encounter a "one color scrollbar" (as I call it) they will just have to guess where the face of the scrollbar is and drag. Also, does anyone know what it feels like to scroll down a page to read the content but then when you want to scroll down a little further by pressing the scrollbar again, it suddenly drags you to another part of the page? This usually occurs when you haven't been able to exactly hit on the face of the scrollbar and continue to drag, instead you had clicked on the track of the bar(short for scrollbar, I am so tired of having to write that word), thus has taken you to another part of the page from where you clicked. I KNOW IT IS VERY COMPLICATING, BUT BEAR WITH ME. That is a problem that I find is quite annoying, because then I have the hard task of finding the face of the bar which is close to impossible because the colours of the bar are all the same! And then try scrolling again! In conclusion >>when selecting colours for your scrollbar>remember to diversify in your colours, meaning to use dfferent colours, it's easier for you and it's even more easier for your visitors to navigate--especially if you have very long pages or even worse, Inline frames. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There we go another thing a GOOD website shouldn't have!
  10. NOTE: this post is based on ICYLADY101's opinion and was not aimed to offend nor encourage existing sites. The first post to this topic. I am hoping to expand this list as time prceeds. Here is the surrent list of things that I THINK a good website shouldn't have! 1. An enormous amount of animated .gifs OK, who in the "normal" world likes to visit a site full of these flashing animations/banners/buttons/images??? (But I do understand that some sites have to endure these due to their host) I extremely don't like arriving at a website that takes 10 years to load and in the end all I see is a massive clutter of blinking images! In particular, to those animations that only contain one or two frames and are on loop. When I see those, I thank the people at Microsoft(and other browsers) for creating the "STOP" button, that way it will freeze the animations so they don't continue to "blink me to death". In conclusion I suggest to not have ANY of those animated gif's on your website, but if it really IS that tempting to have it on your site, than please only use 1 or 2 because, honestly, they are very annoying. You shouldn't have animated .gifs because of these reasons: >>they take a lot of space > on your server and on your bandwith (especially if your site has a lot of visitors. >>they take a long time to load > tough on your visitors who have to wait for each and every image to load and by the time it's finished loading, your visitor would of been long GONE!! It's also tough on your bandwith! >>they are annoying > YES THEY ARE! Very annoying and if people look at it for a while they may even suffer epileptic seizures!! (if the case is serious) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the first thing that I think a GOOD website shouldn't have, I hope to add more soon, so keep on visiting back to this forum and all comments on what I could add or improve on is welcomed!
