  1. While we are on the topic of Katrina, does anyone know anything about the trustworthiness of the American Red Cross? This article http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ says the Red Cross has withheld funds from donations to various disater reliefs, including the tsunami and 9/11, but prisonplanet.com almost looks like a conspiracy theory website, so I don't know...Of course it's not like I want to donate thousands of dollars to hurricane relief (I can't), but it's still good to know my money is going to deserving hands.
  2. Does loving someone's appearance count as lust then?
  3. You made a scary but logical point, and if it comes true I am buying a bicycle. But I hope that the prices will not stay ridiculously high when the refineries are reopened...It is very possible that some gas station will lower its price just enough to outcompete the other gas stations, which will lower their prices, and so on.
  4. Wait, the US reenacted 9/11? Where did you read about that??
  5. So most people who live in the US and catch the news now and then have heard about hurricane Katrina in the Gulf of Mexico. Here in Atlanta we only get some heavy rain now and then. However, the Gulf Coast refineries had to close, so there is a predicted severe gas shortages for this city of fanatic drivers. The governor has just issued an emergency decree that closes gas stations after 5 pm. So as the wonderful law of supply and demand dictates, this caused a mad mad rush to gas stations, and consequently an outrageous hike in gasoline prices. In the morning it was around $2.6/gallon. Now it's $5/gallon. :-( I understand that businesses are looking out for themselves, and with a smaller supply they have to raise the price to make more money...but doesn't a 200% increase seem a little extreme??Oh well, I should still be thankful and pray for those who were affected by Katrina.
  6. I wonder what a person's eating style says about him or her. For example, someone who likes to be semi-alone may be shy, quiet, or just plain stuck-up. Or may be she likes to observe others' eating behavior...For me I like eating totally alone because it makes me less sleepy afterward and gives me time to mull. What about you?
  7. What? Dreams are reality? Hmm, then I've done some really weird things...I try to make the minimum 6 hours. It's true, less than that and I start forgetting stuff.
  8. What kind of organization are you in at your school? Why did you join and what made you stay? Responses greatly appreciated! If your answer was no, why not? 9. I go to college in Atlanta, majoring in biochem and math and having no idea how to choose between the two.
  10. Ditto. I'm 21 but I feel like an old woman on here. Oh well :-)
  11. Thursday, because the day after is Friday, and Friday means a temporary break from school work because 2 free days are ahead...In college when Thursday comes the week is practically over.
  12. and stop using religion as an excuse for violence
  13. Kasm,How does point 2 relate to the topic we are discussing? I didn't say the US was in Vietnam for the benefit of the Vietnamese. I wrote "to prevent the above from happening to all of Southeast Asia" meaning to stem the tide of Communism in SE Asia. By "they destroyed the cities..." did you mean the US or Russia and China? I think you meant the US, right? Well, war destroys buildings, people, etc...and in the process governments have to be rebuilt, the economy has to readjust. What's important is what happens after the war.Bush went to war on Iraq because of WMD, everyone who listens to the news knows that. Now the reason is to topple Saddam's totalitarian regime. What I'm saying, though, is that the war did topple Saddam and therefore allowed a different type of government that hopefully will give people more rights. So you seem to think that Saddam's regime wasn't so bad because his government was diverse? That doesn't seem to make up for all the atrocities I've heard against him.I did not write anything about the war on Iraq being for terrorism. So please don't use that as my reason.
  14. Right now Vietnam is in a bad shape in terms of human rights: no freedom or religion government-controlled press, lies and corruption, etc...The economy just recently started to improve, but it is in a worse state than before the Communists took over. Parents sell their little girls to prostitute houses in Cambodia, women marry Taiwanese men, and people are doing desperate things to make money.I think the US was doing the right thing when it got involved in Vietnam: to prevent the above from happening to all of Southeast Asia. But when it pulled out, the people were worse off than before because of Communism. And this is partly from anti-war pressures. Who could foresee the consequences?Vietnam and Iraq aren't too similar, but Saddam's regime was also totalitarian. The people are also poor. Pulling out of Iraq right now would be like turning it over to the insurgents and losing the war...don't you think?
  15. I used to watch Little House on the Prairie reruns and pretended I was Laura, and Xena reruns because I loved watching her kick the bad guys' butts. Now whenever I have time I go for the comedies to get my daily dose of laughter: Seinfeld, Friends, and Will and Grace. It's great to laugh until my sides hurt.
  16. Hi nanicheri,I agree with you about being able to love someone for the rest of your life without all the paperwork and fancy wedding, rings, etc...I think for most people the wedding and rings symbolize their commitment to each other and their love. It's a physical reminder that they've finally found the person they're spending the rest of their life with. For most people the moment when they take that vow is very romantic and symbolic. And the paperwork...I guess is for legal purposes. I know couples who get married and live together without the paperwork saying they're married to each other. (I think they are doing that for tax purposes and it's probably illegal). But the legal stuff is symbolic too, I think. The couple is not only bound by society, but also by law, so it kind of represents another level of commitment.
  17. Hi midnightvamp and RGPHNX,Nice to meet you guys and thank you for replying. I'm trying to get web hosting to make a web site for an organization at my school. That's all I will say for now because I don't want to jinx it. (Superstition, I know). It should be up pretty soon though, because school starts next week for me. Aaah! Another year already. Xisto already seems like a great idea--giving free webhosting in exchange for discussion. Everyone can learn from each other that way.Oh, I noticed that you guys are premium and super members. You must have started pretty long ago?And nice sig, midnightvamp :-)
  18. An ideal way to start my day: getting a wake up call from my favorite person instead of an alarm clock, morning routine, then a big breakfast in the school dining hall. Hearing "good morning" from another person is the best way to wake up happy.
  19. Hi Totalwar, I have no idea how much people spend for wedding rings, although I think most women want diamond engagement ring, since "diamond lasts forever" and it's a "girl's best friend." Since you're spending $900, does it mean you're getting diamond? I always thought diamond cost more. I think as long as you can afford it go for it, but why would you want to spend more if she's asking for less? If spending that much money on the ring means you have less money for the wedding it might not be a good idea...No amount of money can buy true happiness or put a value on true love. Of course, it depends on what your girlfriend/fiancee really wants to see on her finger, and what she really wants others to see on her finger. Hi biscuitrat,May I ask why one of those jelly light up ring is a perfect wedding ring for you?
  20. Hi everyone! My name is Kim. I'm a college student in Atlanta. I'm here to get web hosting for a wonderful cause. Hope everyone is having a great summer, even though school probably started for many people here. I can't wait to get to know everyone on Xisto. I'm new to the web hosting world so I have a lot to learn from you guys!
  21. Hi everyone! Well...I vote for Nguyen because his sig is the most cheerful and adorable one, and I love elves! The background is very nice and sparkly. Truefusion is nice, too.
