  1. Take a good look at Singapore. People have their freedom...HOWEVER, you cannot litter, burglarize others, vandalize people's property or otherwise you'd receive a hefty fine and be given a couple of swats with a cane on the behind in public right on the spot. It doesn't matter if you a politician, a wealthy investor, or even a tourist, you cannot get away with it. You cannot bribe or sue to make them go your way. Some American lawyer or tourist tried to do sue against the Singaporean government a few years back on the actions that his teen's son got caught upon doing a few years back. He failed. You'd be amazed at how strict they are with their rules and laws. I half wish that our country would have done that. There'd be less corruption, less thievery that way. No Columbine. No VT. Unfortunately, given the vastness of our country, it's almost impossible. Corrupted people won't like that.

As my college French teacher once told us, "The US DIDN'T LISTEN to our warnings of a possible terrorist attack. And now, the planes went 'KAPOOSH'. THEY WOULD HAVE AVOIDED THAT!!!" Ok, so it's a little dramatic on my part, but when she first told us about that, I didn't know if she was joking or if she was serious. If she was, what the hell happened to our intelligence agency?! They were SUPPOSED to protect us from harm. Looks to me that they either didn't do their job, turned a blind eye, or was bribed by the evil corporations. I know its a bit straying from my original topic.

Don't you think it's a tad bit fishy that a corporate leader of a big company just suddenly decided run for governor, make "too good to be true" promises, and blow millions/billions of dollars of their own pocket money? That happened during our recent gubernatorial race. Luckily, she didn't win.

The reason for the introduction of this bill is, call me paranoid, because the big businesses want control of the internet, hence the "blacklist". Most of our society's elected politicians, many of whom who aren't mentally sound, are slowly bowing down to the will of the corporates and their business lobbyists. They're likely the reason why our education are recently down in the dumps, especially in my state of California. They try to avoid taxes by "creating jobs", and some of the bigger offenders refuse to pay any taxes at all, which is beneficial to many of our free public services, many more that actually need "welfare money" than the abusers, keeping national and state parks low cost and sometimes free. Good quality education in k-12 and 2-year colleges free and state university systems low cost, as well as rehabilitation for juveniles, former inmates, and those who suffered a tragic or an abusive past.

Instead, many of these are cut, which is what my boyfriend is paranoid about. Our current president is under the pressure of business lobbyists to give up his "Internet freedom for All" stance. One of my other friends and his father is also paranoid about monopolies, corporations, and such. Moi, quality education for all at little to no cost, as previously stated. At the same time, I also want see that all familes and individuals that aren't suffering from the hands of others, particularly our right to speak our honest truths on the internet and the right to read and learn and protest and rebel against the tyranny of others. Of course, the internet still *needs* some protection from the harmful acts of others whether it would be computer-related or people-related, but the blacklist bill just doesn't cut it. It just speaks tyranny of big businesses.

That's more of my vent. A little bit disorganized though.

  2. I don't know about all of you, but I for one, would hate to see all the freedom that we have with the internet would just...disappear. China forcing Google to make China "the happiest place on Earth" when everyone else knew that China isn't all that innocent. Then they control people how much they get to spend on the internet? It's bad enough already. I'm glad that I don't live there, but now, I face the threat of not being able to browse sites in the way I please (not the unmentionables, of course), nor blog in the way I please, nor even be able to post on content in the way I please without the fear of being blacklisted just because some big business feels threatened by my (completely innocent) content. It even threatens my life as a hobby side-scripter and web designer, including my life as a student Education for All rights activist. Free hosting sites like this might not even get a chance to exist because other companies are demanding that every web-designer wannabe to pay up if their site are to be hosted. If that happens, what if they suddenly decide that we aren't allowed to view websites outside of the US? Chat with our families and friends who live in another country? If you all are also worried about net neutrality and would like to petition like I am:

  3. I am just seriously too shocked to say how I liked the way you've been supportive of me when I started out two-three months ago. I had every intention of posting as much as I can, on top of school and all. But because there aren't as much topics as I wanted to post from, so it just makes it difficult for me even post a lot more without spamming. So therefore, I intermittently appear every now and then. Erza, who signed up about the same time as I did, did a very good job in posting, much better than I did. Like you, Anwii, I'm someone who mainly reply to already-started topics. Unique to myself and probably a few others, I will read topics that catch my eye. I won't normally post unless I have something to say. I won't normally start topics unless I have something I really wanted to post. When I do, however, it's just very difficult to rouse interest on something not related to asking for help and other technical questions. However, I must say that my days on the forums aren't what it used to be. It could be very difficult for me start posting stuff like crazy. Like others, I would very much like you to stay, but because you're your own person, we can plead all we want but we can't force you to stay.I too, wish for the revival of Trap 17/KS. What on earth happened to Opaque? I'd very much like to meet him one day. On the forums, that is.Who knows, maybe someone will come by and help us truly revive KS and make it like what it used to be.

  4. What I don't get is why this government let some of these schools go to waste. It should be a safe environment that everyone enjoys coming to. Instead, all the government does is "tightening" up learning on students, make school liable if they don't improve standards, shut them down, and more than likely fire all the teachers in that "bad" school. Dude, the only reason why some schools or cities are so bad is because they don't even put enough training into teachers and don't even take into account that the "bad" schools are located in low-income neighborhoods where violence are more than likely to occur. Of course kids aren't gonna be able to concentrate--and the many that are affected show this by disrupting the "safe place" through fights, thievery and vandalism, as well as other forms of delinquency. I'm mad as hell as a future educator. However, with the school I had gone to, it was in a pretty decent neighborhood, with some healthy bit of rivalry.

  5. Hopefully we'll see you again. :) Good luck to...life!My life has been currently tying up some loose ends in a couple of games I play. Life for me will definitely start picking up in a couple of weeks as school starts up again.

  6. I'm currently shopping for good, reputable flash drive manufacturers. At the same time, I'm also looking for those whose flash drive products that consider people's budget.

There are two brands I'm currently using.

    1. Kingston: I think is a good company because I've brought their products. Few the older ones that I had broke or slightly broken because of my abuse. Whoops.:blink::P

    2. Lexar: I'm currently testing out this brand because I'm thinking about moving on to a new, probably more reliable, brand besides Kingston. This way, in case one goes down in the dumps, I'll have another to rely on.

One brand for some reason I think is a bit unreliable. Why? I think it's just me.

    1. Sandisk: Otherwise I think I would use its products just for SD cards for cameras and their photos.

One brand I completely refuse to use (Don't try to convince me):

    1. Sony: Back some years ago, there was this incident where you insert a CD (I think for installation) from Sony. A lot of consumers were expecting this one product, but unknowingly, there was another product that secretly installed itself from that CD. Ever since I had heard of that incident, I decided not to buy from that manufacturer ever, even though that incident has long cleared up.

So, bring up your best arguments as to which "new, reliable" brand I should be using!

Also note that it will be used to help back up my family's Mac Snow Leopard OS before sending it for repair.

  7. Right-click the link in your browser that leads to the PDF file and pick "Save Link as" or whatever it is in your browser. This should skip over the browser activating the Adobe Reader plug-in.
I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the save to desktop feature of the browser plug-in is in a counter-intuitive spot.

I tried that and I still end up saving in htm/html instead of the pdf I wanted. What the hell is Adobe thinking?

  8. Ok, so I appreciate what they're trying to do to "lessen" the crash that normally comes associated with pdf documents. What I hate now is that I cannot find the save feature it has. I all I found is that when I roll over towards bottom the document's screen the options to scroll sideways, up and down, and zoom in and out show up. I also happen to enjoy the option to skip to certain pages when there are more than 5 pages long. But anyway, there are a couple of school documents that show up in pdf on my school online learning system that I want to save a copy to my computer, but I cannot save. When I do, I instead end up saving the webpage in html instead. Has anybody else come across this problem and know how to get around it? Or do I have to somehow find a way to install and older version? Thanks

  9. Haha. No kidding. A remains of a mouse. Eww.... Either it had heart attack or died of old age. Or it just couldn't find itself back out in the way that it came in and died to starvation. But wow, still, it must have been very rare to have that happening to that box of a computer engine.Yup, dust has definitely the most-hated culprit of machine efficiency and computer heat-ups in older computers.

  10. 1. Earning Big xistodollars is myth. With current earning level algorithm, you can only earn 1-2$ for 4-8 posts if you're new. If you're old and not in the list of top members (for which script runs differently i guess) will be able to keep up with 1-2$ for4-8 posts.

At this moment, moi, about $1 for what looks like every 7 of my posts.

    2. Quality of content has nothing to do with earning mycent. You can have quality posts, helpful answers and still getting 1$ for your 12-16 posts. Being at this place myself, not even admin can't refute this point.
You can't earn 4-10$ xisto in one week. This script will not let you do that, this is the truth. Earlier it was possible to earn but nowadays this is not possible(i can't speak from sides of top or admin selected members i have no idea of their earnings).

You're definitely right about that. It just seems that no matter how hard I try, the output ends up being the same, or that's how I feel so.

    3. Mycent script runs alternate day plus it stays down for one day per week(which you can verify yourself). So your chances of earning is only 3$ per week if you have more than 1k-2k posts and not in top member or post list of admin.

Except that I haven't been able to do that, as I don't post very often, either due to lack of posts that I can respond to or because I don't have any topics to start off with, or because of classes or the fact that I can sometimes take forever in formulating a response or topic. I'm more of a topic non-starter anyway. If I tried to start a topic...only a few people would respond, at least that seems to be the case with Yahoo! Answers, anyway, and probably a forum or two I might have forgotten.

    4. Posting thread with some content will give some earning only if you are new users. If threads are started by old members then they have no extra privilege or benefit. Infact they are getting less mycents so posting threads point is only for newcomers.
How's that for being real ?

That just isn't fair. Even for newcomers like myself fear of becoming an "old member." If I were an admin, however, I would chose to earn less and become an admin.

I'm posting regularly and in most cases daily. Many of my posts don't get count in mycent calculation even though i avoid posting in no-count section. Answers section and few more section gives you NO mycents and NO postcount so i prefer to avoid posting there. I don't want to contribute to this forum which is giving me peanuts for my contribution by marking some forums as no earning. So i prefer to post in section where there is some value to be gained in return (or in case any other member needs desperate help in answers).

I guess that would probably explain why I haven't been getting the minimum amount I had hoped to earn.

  11. Yea, I definitely agree. I haven't been on all week because of Thanksgiving break, even though I swore I would churn up some good posts over the break because of plenty of time. Instead, I did just the opposite. I did not make any posts, probably because I saw everything else interesting, and then homework and stuffs like that. (I just snuck in some time between booking bus tickets and packing back to school) But I think what really turned me off was that it looked like I only made $1 myCents per seven posts prior to the break, likely on average, and I had expected to have it updated at least once every other day to once a day. If things keep happening like this, I probably won't be able to get at least the basic, basic web packet by the end of the month, but since Nov's closing already, then maybe by the end of the year. It's gonna get even more difficult for me to post more because of finals, assuming my usual procrastination doesn't kick in, as it's doing now. I think it's only fair that everyone gets an even footing, whether or not they are a veteran to this forum since way back the time this forum has started. It's not fair that the newbies (even though I'm a newbie myself) gets everything in the beginning, but once they've reached to a certain point, things just begin to taper off and then probably pushed aside as if they're an old member, assuming that's the case.I hope OpaQue comes back very soon and makes needed adjustments. :)

  12. There's nothing more than an irritating...loss. If it was maybe like, two to three lines, I won't mind writing it again, whether I had forgotten to copy it or something somehow replaced that copied text. Half a page or more? Probably not, unless I could remember it all. Instead, I'll just keep fuming until I forget about it a couple of hours later.Saving every few lines can backfire, though. If you're at a high-impacted forum, someone could respond or quote your post before you can actually finish. Besides, it's just amazing how some people just simply don't read simple directions. It maybe not happen here, but I've had that kind of experience before.

  13. Old members are getting less than 10 cents per reply irrespective of word count and the age of topic. We old members did a lot of supportive posting and for that atleast i'm getting less mycents than i think my post should get. So i give up. I have to look at my plate for food and question forum authority instead of pretending all is well. After reading these threads about mycent value in recent updates and how current forum is going on i doubt any newbie will waste time here.
Atleast i think that old members are not supposed to be treated like this by giving less mycents as post count increases. Owner knows that we're not ripping him off anyway.

Hey, I've been trying to be as active as possible. But when there aren't much people around to post up topics, it just gets harder and harder for me to find interesting stuff to post to and maybe give myself 5-10 minutes to post at minimum, without research or being distracted while at the same time, put up a good post that has lots of good thinking put into it.

And besides, who's idea was to give less myCent to long-time users who had a lot of posts? If I were to have been here for as long as some of the long-time users and had at least posted 2-3 times a day, trust me, I wouldn't have been pleased.

  14.

I hardly use Firefox these days. I use Chrome now, for my PC. If I was on the family Mac, it woul be either Firefox or Safari. I think I use Firefox less these days is because it either crashes or loads really slow. But now that I have been on Chrome for a while now, it is a bit better, but there really isn't much difference.

I forgot to add one thing. Has anything, anything similar to this happened to you?

  15. That's a really, really cool plan, but truth be told, I don't think in my lifetime would I ever need that much space. I've got life, I've got school, and maybe if I'm lucky, I can probably help sub *host* someone else's webpage who's a trusted friend or acquaintance. But for me to solely manage that huge of a website, it's likely that it would be very difficult for me to manage right from the get-go and for the reasons as stated above. Besides, unless hundreds of topics jump out at me almost every single day and if time weren't a factor, it is already difficult for me to contribute a post to a very interesting topic. If I was working (and have the time to of course manage), I'd use some of my hard-earned money to pay for some of that.

  16. As the title describes, it is that one thing that annoys me the most. You spend so much time typing up your post, you click send, and the page stops loading. You refresh the page many times because it keeps failing to load. Finally, the page loads, but instead of viewing the post you just made, you are redirected to the parent page. You wanted to make some edits to your post because you just realized you had stuff to add, however, you cannot find your post or thread. After searching for a couple of minutes, you realize, what the freak, you had just lost your post and it didn't go through! You knew you should have just copied the whole post, but you forgot or because the internet or the forum had been working so well that you felt secured. Too secured. Or you were used to having that auto-save feature that you have in your email account.Or worse. You had decided to grab a quick bite to eat or drink. When you came back, your pet, a cat, had decided sleeping on your keyboard was a good place to take a nap. Or you had a family member that made no notions of creating a new tab or page and decided to surf the net. You were in the middle of typing a very good argument and in both cases, they are lost! You navigate back a page and in the typing box, everything is blank, all blank! Your reaction? Of course you get mad.

  17. I also happened to have asked a friend on Facebook on the very same issue. If all that'a CPUMon really is, then it's just nothing more than a customizable task manager that gives more details. The only thing now is that I need to know which are the processes I can't disable. I know I had disabled the explorer.exe once and my computer didn't like that, so I know I won't do that again. I also know that there are a few others that I've read that are essential in helping to run the computer, except that I cannot remember what they are. However, I cannot figure out on how to disable some of those programs (that I never use) that would for sure stay disable upon start-up.I think I'll just stick with Task Manager.

  18. While looking for a batch file renamer,I came across a program that monitors CPU usage, CPUMon. What are the pros and cons of monitoring CPU usage and what are the benefits? But first, is CPU usage monitoring legal? I hope it's not a hacking device or anything thing. Can't help but ask. It's just one thing I've never heard about. I'm just trying to raise the efficiency of my 4-month-old laptop. Thank you very much.

  19. Phew. :D And I though this was another TOS. Ok, just kidding. :P But seriously, I thought this was some way some "advice" on how to make quality posts. I just thought it would be interesting. Instead, looks like I found someone who's just ticked off at someone making a comment to their thread just because...yea, well, I followed that too for a bit.Anyway, just because KS has changed their name doesn't mean old members are forced to follow new rules. It just means they're here to enforce rules that had been set before the name.change while new ones are implemented and old becomes new. It also means that old habits die hard. Sometimes really hard. I had developed current habits from trial and error. It also feels more satisfying to type out complete sentences while completely avoiding net-speak because they give me a really hard time to follow while reading. And it drives me crazy. But of course, I don't completely avoid typing out shortcuts. I just use them when it is needed. :P Also, I just have a "really" bad habit to type out a lot of things, but that's only because I usually say what is stored in my thoughts, and it sometimes can be a lot. That means, it's harder for me to give one-liners, unless you place me in a forum called the "chatterbox" meant for spamming. I tend to lurk too, but that doesn't guarantee me to post anything. If there is something for me to say, then I will say it and it tends to be like this post I am sending right now. However, my only fear is that people will skip over my post because there is too much stuff to read. Hey, my habits die. Hard.

  20. One aide I constantly use to to check my work for while working on assignments for my programming class helps me out a lot. Actually, make that two aides. The first following helps to check for code errors in both html and css: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

It makes a big difference as to how it would show up in a given browser. But of course, you'll have to go with its strict rules of html coding, if you want to bother with it.The second following helps to check browser compatibility through all browser platforms and computer platforms, some browsers and computers you may never even heard of:http://browsershots.org/

This way, you'll know if you need to make adjustments or not.

  21. Some people are on welfare for a reason, such as aspiring artists, actors/actresses and writers. One famous author, JK Rowling, who wrote the Harry Potter series, was on welfare at the time of writing a her first book while raising her first child. A full-time job would leave her probably almost no time to write, as it was the case while she taught somewhere in Spain and Portugal, and schedules of part-time jobs can sometimes be unpredictable, depending on the line of work. She was lucky enough that her books hit the jackpot after searching for a publisher for some couple of years. Our only problem is how some people abuse the welfare system, even though they have jobs, PAYING jobs.Disability payments, whether it'll be physically or a learning disability such as all spectrums of autism, Asperger's Syndrome, ADD, and possibly ADHD, or a mental disability such as PTSD, is a totally different topic. Yes, increasing expenses to education is a very big problem. Perhaps, this might be the fact some people are unable to afford education and are kept on welfare because of it, while they are unable to find jobs according to their degree level. At my school, CSU Chico, there's been talk of accepting applications at only neighboring counties surrounding Butte County. Whether if it's just freshman or transfer, I'm not sure. What's even more disturbing is that they've just decided to raise 5% in tuition. My main concern that fuels this problem is how the upper class income-earners are paying less taxes and evading more thrown at them; this cuts at not just education, but other public services as well. San Francisco is just fortunate it has a running, if just barely, transportation system.

  22. From my understanding, AI is unable to reproduce itself naturally. It is possible, however, to "create" itself if it is given the instructions to do so. It is incapable of emotion (unless further study is done), nor have the ability to have smooth movement control (again, unless further study is done). It may have the ability to analyze like the way adult humans do, and act accordingly on it, but it depends on the programming. It does have the capacity to improve to include new programming, depending on what it is built for. For now, its reasoning is absolute and is unable to create plausible, flexible reasonings. One major difference between biological and artificial life forms is that biological life forms have living cells, the ability to repair itself, divide, and follow a DNA sequence, which can be viewed through a microscope. Most, if not all, biological life forms are made out of carbon. They are prone to genetic errors or defects and have the ability to adapt. They required food and water to sustain energy. For artificial life forms, it cannot repair itself microscopically, unless equipped with nano technology (that itself is feat yet to be made--if needing to repair robots so minuscully). They follow a programming sequence, and their components are made out of metals and probably plastics and are wired from head to toe almost like blood vessels and are less likely prone to errors. However, they may not be so easily adaptable. They require battery/electricity to sustain energy.Of course, if they were to move, it would be robotics. Otherwise, it would depend on the type of usage they were programmed for. :D It can be chosen to obey their creators or be programmed to move according to their own "judgement".One great example of extremely advanced AI and robotics is none other than Data and his brothers from Star Trek!

  23. I have a reason to believe that money is a necessary evil. If people can't used them right, by hoarding, using money as power or to bribe and stuff like that, then it shouldn't exist. Yet, it has already happened, especially in this US economy. Corporations are draining the poor poorer at almost every dime, eliminated necessary programs the low income needed to better themselves out of poverty and trick us into believing we are worthless and can't teach our children properly, although it isn't necessarily true. They are constantly evading taxes through loopholes, which causes our government to lose money, especially here in my state, California, which used to be one of the top educated states before the 70's. Now we're ranking at near bottom, which is very depressing. You can blame it all on immigration, legal and illegal, but I don't think that's the case. A top educated state should be able to accommodate those whose English isn't their first language. An ideal educated state should encourage the learning of a second or third language from early on, such as language immersion programs.Besides, we don't need lots of money to buy top-of-the-line products. Even top-of-the-line/state-of-the-art products eventually become average and average products still works just as good, as long as quality, not quantity, is insured. These days, it just feels like quantity is the norm. Almost no company is making the effort to quality products, and it's becoming frustrating. Instead, they just force us to buy more every time something breaks down and it is unrepairable after a few times of usage. Greed is evil.If money is used right, it can be used to help relief in disaster-struck areas or under-developed countries or fund a research that helps humanity.Sorry for my rant. :)

  24. The only reason why I hate school is that we had to deal with bullies, parents who don't give a darn to their children's well being or worse, abuse their children and teachers who gives such high expectations that no one reaches them. Don't get me wrong, high expectations are good, but it has to be within reason. Also, educational inequality. There are schools out there that are in such bad shape that all extracurricular activities had been done away, including PE, Music, and Visual Arts. There isn't enough textbooks to go around, even qualified teachers. Not only that, the school is hard to keep clean because of the lack running water. What I hate the most is politicians, especially those that side with corporations, constantly take away our education's vital resources.

  25. I'm more of a PC user than a Mac user, though the funny thing is that my very first computer, at both home and school, is a mac. :P My very first Mac was a hand-me-down from my cousin, and it was an old, I think, 89 black-and-white one piece computer, with one of those switches you had to reach in the back for to turn it off. Too bad it broke down by the time I got to middle school (I had loved that computer because I loved playing the game Mahjong, which came on a floppy), and we got a win 98. I believed that since then, my family had bought PCs, just because it was cheap. It was also a relief that we had more than one computer because I didn't want to fight my sister over them. By high school, my school had both PCs and Macs to my delight, and I could switch usage between the two systems and bring my Mac shortcut knowledge up to speed. By college, my parents bought me my first laptop, a Windows XP. It was only recently last year we bought a Mac laptop, because of my urging. I knew there wasn't enough popularity so that viruses, trojans, and worms could attack, yet it was more reliable. Not only that, it was easier to use, and I wanted my mom to get the feel for use of a computer. By then, my first laptop had finally broken down, and I used it as my temporary primary computer until I found the laptop that I wanted using my scholarship money. As much as I loved the mac and some of its features that Windows can't use, I considered myself a hobby gamer, and most online downloadable games I liked don't have a Mac platform.Anyway, I wouldn't say I hate Macs, nor would I say I love them. The only thing I can agree on is that both PCs and Macs both have their pros and cons. If my parents bought a Mac right from the start after our oldest computer broke, who knows, I would have been a Mac user! :P
