Camera Recommendations Point and Shoot

I'm basically looking for a decent point and shoot camera that will let me have manual control over most(if not all) of the operations:Focus, ISO, shutter speed, aperture, ev compensation, white balance, etc.Maybe some brand names that allow this? My current point and shoot doesn't let me manually control shutter speed or aperture.I've heard about CHDK on canon powershot cameras, would this fit my needs?

Well these are technically not point and shoot - but they are top end cameras that will do anything.

Now if you don't have enough money then i would consider the downgraded version which is the 1000d. I am getting for my birthday this year and it costs around Ł300

As for point and shoot i guess that the Sony CyberShot would be good enough.

 

But im against all those sorts of cameras, you have no control over the imagery and it blurs the images even if you have stabiliser on.

Me and flashy was only talking about Camera's the other week we found the HD one's was a very good price and if you got a camcorder that can Film and take pictures and in HD that is about ?350!!!

My only problem with getting an SLR is the expense.I don't see myself as serious enough about photography to justify spending that much on a nice camera.About the cyber-shot. I dislike that I can't use my current SD card (which my laptop has a slot for). The canon powershot isn't much better, as I also dislike the fact that it doesn't have rechargeable batteries. But it does have the CHDK custom firmware, which would solve my manual settings woes. Maybe I'm just too picky :/.

Well really, just browse around at the shops. Take a look at the specs and the ones you are looking for are the shutter speed (the smaller the fraction the faster it takes a photo, also the less wobble), megapixels and auto focus is a must. Also white balancing may be useful for different sceneries, since the outdoor setting is no use indoors.My mum has a Canon Powershot and they are **** - it blurs the images and the shutter speed is poor.

In the UK at the minute the best shop I have seen for Cheap and quality goods is Comet, They also have a good refund service so there should be no problem taking your Camera back if any problems occur.

Hmm, the only shop i know that is in the US is PCWorld - but i dont know any eletrical company that may sell them.

 

Currys and Comet are exellent suppliers - but unfortunately Jessops are shutting down

Jessops are the best since they are camera "experts", but 17 stores have been closed this month, and how many more are to be closed *waa*

Go for Canon Powershot is all i can say. If i remember correctly its Canon Powershot SX-10. A prosumer level camera with most features to be found in a SLR and all that you need sans the ability for interchangeable lens.True Jessops is a very established camera retail.. and they are closing down shops??

Not all of the Powershots are any good - my mum has a Powershot A560 and even though its a 7 megapixel camera - its shutter speed is only 1/150, which is incredably slow, so you will need a steady hand.

How ever though with experience you can still take nice pictures with crap cameras

How ever though with experience you can still take nice pictures with crap cameras

Shutter speed is set by the reading of aperture and also your ISO setting. The smaller the aperture, the slower the shutter speed. I didnt mention about all Powershots in the range is good as i have quoted the one that is recommeded, SX10. Also, not all point and shoot cameras have the ability to adjust the shutterspeed, ISO etc..

With respect, the way you put your copyright, its way too easy to be cleared off. Never put a trademark on a plain view. Do a watermark, that is the most effective way, to date.

anything canon or nikon!!!!i have used both and own a canon dslr... Only cause i had a good price; otherwise it would have been a nikon dslr.I love both canon and nikon and they pretty much have the same camera within the prices... i.e. a canon 7.1 and nikon 7.1 megapixel will cost close to the same and have the same stuff... just pick your favorite.shop at newegg or bhphotovideo for good deals

The best option for you i think it would have to be cannon a620 or something along those lines. They are fast, the picture have maybe the best quality from all point and click cameras, it has a manual mode, but you can also download an open source firmware patch (CHDK) for it and it's great, it adds raw format, bracketing, live histograms and zebra, and a lot more also it uses scripts so u can do almost anything.

i finally got around to picking up the LUMIX LX3 back in february (well, i had to order it in from japan as it was out of stock just about everywhere in north america). when i finally did receive it, i quickly learned why shops couldn't keep it in stock. it takes beautiful photos and has just about every element one could want from a digital SLR, in a point and shoot format. fully customizable (i'm still figuring out it's complete functions three months later), is able to run an external flash/lenses/etc., shoots video in HD (which does come out looking quite clear i might add), and the wide angle format without any additional lens required is second to none. toss in the fact that it basically runs side by side with the much more expensive LEICA D-LUX 4 (the LUMIX actually contains much of the same "guts" if you will)... and you've got a point and shoot that for my money, can't be beat.plainly put, i love it through and through.
