Wordpress.com Jetpack

Recommended Posts

I was installing wordpress for one client and found that there was update from wordpress official team. They asked to connect wordpress.com to hosted wordpress. By doing this all the features (or part of) are moved to the hosted wordpress. Some of the features which cuts the load of using other plugins are removed using this jetpack version. I like this update and so i decided to share it here on Xisto. You can read about the jetpack related queries and information on wordpress.com blog post. You'll get most of the API related issues answer on that blog post. Some users also asked questions related to other hosted wordpress versions. I think you'll find enough support on the blog itself. There is lot of interesting stuff that this API ports over to the hosted version.

Wordpress.com stats - This plugin comes with wordpress jetpack and there is also another plugin that asks for this data but will soon get discontinued. I think those who are using affiliate products or ads or other SEO stuff on their site should avoid google analytics as it gives more information to the google to ban you or reduce your ranking. In such case you get most of the stuff for analytics in wordpress.com stats. Again it is upto you to use other third party or this plugin. My preference is either use google analytics or similar other analytics for casual sites and use 3rd party non google for SEO and earning money stuff site.

Sharedaddy - Wordpress.com community has like and share feature which is now possible to use it on this plugin. I don't think it's worthy to use but you can enable it for getting some google +1 or facebook likes.

Polldaddy- You can also get polls to collect data for you from wordpress.com servers. This way you can save a lot of data on your own hosting. I found this feature more useful for sites which use excessive polling and voting features. This widget is now removed from the final version of jetpack.

Wp.me shortlinks- Sometimes you don't wish to use sitename as it is likely to be too long. Also on twitter and facebook long URLs are likely to cause issues. So better to use this widget.

After the deadline - This plugin checks for the grammar, length and some other text details and let you post only if they pass your previous criteria settings.Nice and cool plugin inside jetpack.

Latex - If you wish to use too much math formulas and other details in your posts then latex is good options. Not for me but will help other folks for sure.

There are few other plugins here as well for which you can read about them on official jetpack site. I have no idea about performance stuff related to jetpack. So i'll post about it later. Till then you can read more about jetpack and it's future on wordpress here.

I just managed to play with jetpack settings and some widgets are already having some irritation on blog. I have noticed that gravatar vcard and sharedaddy is not important plugin for my site. So i decided to remove it from my website.I know that some people need it but my site has less feedback and comments so i thought it is hardly needed. So its good to remove such plugins from the jetpack. Now the issue was about removing the plugin from the jetpack without disturbing the rest of the plugins. You just have to 'deactivate' those plugins. Once deactivated they are not accessed by wordpress core and so there is no future conflict from these plugins anymore. Everything works in smooth way on wordpress blog. You can find out method to disable the plugins easily here. If you want to know how to disable in short steps. Then just go to jetpack tab and click on read more link of respective plugin. You'll find 'deactivate' button on that page. Just click on it and you'll find those plugins getting deactivated. I have done this already and found that for some annoying plugins in jetpack this method works.
