Decide Which Website Layout Looks Better I need your opinion on this.

Recommended Posts

After almost finishing my new website layout, I've struck upon a problem, i don't know whether put a side bar on the left, or a side bar on the right, it's a small difference, but i really can't seem to decide. So I've decided to ask everyone here. Here are the two different layouts:

SITE NUMBER 1 - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

SITE NUMBER 2 - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Along with your suggestion on which page looks better, I'd also like some more suggestions on what other things i should add to the layout, (I find that it is looking somewhat plain right now.)

Cheers,

well, i like the index one. most of the sites usually place their menu bar on the left, including my band's website is exactly like that (menu placed on the left). I also think the colors of your layout are way nice. The only thing I'd change would be paragraph allign. I prefer justified paragraphs-Ok, thanks for leting me express my comment on your new website.... BTW, what language is that in ur layouts?ciao :)

Cool, website :):D . I like your index2 file, because the menu in on the left. The website looks really weird with the menu on the right. So yeah, i like the index2 one.

I would recommend you to use the index one. i.e. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ most of the websites have menu on the left side of the webpage and it looks a kind of boring too. I have seen websites like peekmambo which has got menu on the right as well. In fact you can keep advertisements below the right menu instead of blank that will suit alot.

If I'm not wrong I think we've commented your site sometime ago and I remember we were talking about the visibility of the links on the menu links which were places on the right side as well. This time that part seems to be pefert.

Width: Instead of long - width I think you could increase the width of the page to between 700px to 800pixels. Many visitors don't want to scroll up and down. That will save some space.

Overall design is simple and it will be fast to load the page - which is good thing.

Graphics : I suggest you put some picture from gallery on frontpage .

It's not a language :P The lorem ipsum is just text printed onto a page because, according to psychology, humans don't often read large paragraphs of text. I don't know...read it for yourself here: http://www.lipsum.com/. :)

I like the navigation pane on the left because most sites are like that. Although you could go retro and put it on the right, if that fits your personality, but I prefer my navigation ("my" = "mine and everyone else's") on the left.

By the way, will your new layout have commenting enabled? :D

Later.

I prefer the menu on the right for that layout, simply because there are lots of blank space below the menu and it looks empty... If you put the menu on the left, the whole page looks kinda weird with lots of blank space on the left (for me), and I am more used to seeing empty space on the right...And if you plan to put ads under the menu, it'd be more suitable to put it in the right too

i think the first one with the navigation menu on the right looks better. it is different because most other sites have it on the left. but besides that, the way you have the paragraphs set up, i think having the menu on the right sort of balances it out in some way. they both look good, but i think index 1 is the way to go.

Okay, forget what I said before left-side navigations. I just saw a post here at Xisto that might make you change your mind.

If you're looking to have the first spot on Google, you might want to make your navigation on the right because search engines usually take in the first 100 words of your site, and if you use those words for a menu, then your content won't get indexed...I don't know read this: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/5151-8-easy-ways-to-optimize-your-website-as-easy-as-it-istry-it-now/. Be sure to look at number 3.

I might just change my own site after reading that :)
