Google Vs Yahoo>>>new Computers Vs Older Computers Google, Yahoo, and more :)

Recommended Posts

Google VS Yahoo. The point of this topic is to express your opinions on Google and Yahoo. And how they run on computersTHis is my experience :When I am on older computers, I tend to go to Google more often than Yahoo because there is less stuff to load. Also with Google the searches tend to be better. The plus to going to Yahoo is that there is more stuff to see, such as your mail and weather. If your into News, that is there also. But sometimes I get distracted and forget what I was going to search for :D Tell me what you think guys :)

Actually on google you can access your mail, view the weather and so on, it has all the features of yahoo plus more however it's designed so all this does not interfere with your general web searches.Google is without doubt the most efficient in both design and functionality for running on slower computers. If you were to type in "weather yourarea" then it brings up a panel with a general forecast for the next four days. Also measurement conversions and currency conversions are fantastic. I'm always converting GBP to USD using google, just type in 15GBP to USD and it brings the results up at the top of the page just like the weather. Also if you have a google account you can log in by clicking the link in the top right of the page which only appears when you mouse over it.The original search engine I used was yahoo, that was before I knew google existed. That was probably about 13 years ago, and yahoo was actually the better search engine. But now googles AI search queries and advanced query characters make it a breeze to find anything you want. For example I'm always looking for single-link downloads (not of illegal or copyright material) and on all these forums that link to the material I'm looking for it's always split-archives. So all I need to do is type in to google "site:megaupload.com mysearch" and it instantly brings up a list of single-link downloads from MU.So for those who weren't clear, Google is definately my favourite in all aspects. :)

I used Google years and years ago because then it was clearely better than Yahoo! and they only had one business: hosting a search engine. Nowadays I feel less safe using Google as a search engine because I'm using Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Reader, Google Docs, Youtube (which is now owned by Google). Occasionally I use Google, not because it's faster, just because it's better. What I'll probably never use anymore is Google Image Search, it's slow and it's horrible. The front-end for the regular search engine has been bloathed too. It's not what it used to be. 10 years ago, Google refused to put anything distracting on their search page, the only important thing was the input field and the submit button. Nowadays, it has more crap on it than Bing or Yahoo! . Since Live search was crap I started using Yahoo! and to be honest, once you're used to Yahoo (and you know how to phrase your queries) it's actually pretty okay. I get what I want, which is not always the case at Google (where you get a lot of 'sponsored' results). Searching images with Yahoo! still works the best, it's the old skool method: nothing fancy, just a page with 10-20 results and a simple filter. Searching images with Bing is nice too, the infinite scrolling works well, especially when you're used to things like tumblr or soup.io :)

yahoo was one of the pioneers of internet search engines. they had a good idea and if im not wrong, they were the ones to introduce internet advertising on a large scale too. they had a complete web portal when people were struggling to maintain standalone websites. so they had good popularity back then. but then they did a huge mistake and that was to complicate their own website. there was too much to do on the site and the users were a confused lot! yahoo's bad luck continued by the arrival of google, which remains the simplest search engine to date. all its complexity is hidden inside and the main google site can simply be used to go anywhere and do anything from the main page. this is something which yahoo has failed to achieve and it clearly shows in their performance. on older computers, it takes some time to load the flash content and complex tables that the yahoo site has, whereas it hardly takes three-four seconds to load the google site because there's just a logo and a search box to be loaded! and the search results are more accurate in google than in any other engines. i honestly didn't bother to find out if yahoo and bing had a sort-of language like google has, using many keywords. even if they did, i think it wont be as effective as google's results. on slow or new computers, google loads the fastest, gives the most options, and gives the most effective results. so it's the best option available for now and recently i heard that yahoo and bing are joining hands to compete against google. two bad search engines combined together still make one big bad search engine! too bad they dont realise this. so let's all stick to google and enjoy the best way to kill time!

Yahoo is a portal and google is search engine only at front page. Ask google to make fast loading yet magazine stype portal like yahoo. You'll find that because of portal style most of the design takes a lot of time. Some peopel assume that there is broadband everywhere and create similar designs. But in many cases they loose customers in that. 3G/4G internet access is not as fast like desktop for those sites. Unless the site is made for mobile or text based it loads slow. Yahoo is not going to revert back to search engine directory page because that way they'll lose more customers. If they do something like google then ads will be cut and so are the buyers and merchants. To avoid this they're focusing on people who like portals and directories. It's not if we like yahoo or google. It's business.

I usually search with google, but sometimes I am disopointed with the results I get, sometimes it's guessing what I want and it doesn't always guess and is showing what I don't want, because of that, I sometimes tend to use some other search engine like yahoo and usually find what I want, by the keywords written. Nevertheless, I am used to google, and usually search using it for simple things..I also agree, that google image search is quite bad, but I usually search for stock images or patters, backgrounds through the search, due to google images usually don't find anything useful, only sometimes..To tell, the truth, some google services just sucks and could be much better, but I guess they're not so popular to to make them better and put resources into them.. :)

I always use google, 99.9% of the time I get the result I am looking for, also there is nothing on the page so on my really old cheap £25 Car boot sale PC it works really well. However I never used google images unless I am looking for abstract wallpapers, for anything else I tend to use picsearch, But I use Google Mail because it is easier to access than others, purely because there is almost nothing on the page.

How did you get -500 money?

That user must have posted some content from another source and did not put it in quotes. that is not allowed here because it counts as an unfair means to gain mycents. so the mods must have inserted quote tags in those posts and the mycent script deducted mycents accordingly. and since mycents were already awarded for those posts, to balance the loss the user's counter has gone into the negative. now the user has to earn $5 in the forums through good posts to make the counter zero again, and then it will start counting positive again.

Some of the search results these days are monitored by google. Most of the time i get commercial pages with no content for the search terms. I don't know how google let others manipulate it. more than 50% of time i get commercial results for the historical or sports saerch terms. I don't like that at all. Same is the case with bing. I don't know in future we are going to get information or we're restricted to sales pages only. For many terms you'll see article of 400 words or less. I hope economy don't get worst or else internet will be garbaged by 400 word spam articles in turn deteoriting the quality of results. Yahoo might improve in terms of content if they notice this and address the issue. I prefer to see who in turn gets the quality information delivered. I don't care as in fan or something. I just want the best out of internet experience.

i got those irritating sites too from google where there's hardly any matter and the content is auto-generated. what's good is that most of the time wikipedia is there to help me out with what i'm looking for, so i don't usually need to go to page 2 of the google search results. only for a few search terms i have to bear looking at such auto sites with no content. it would be really good to see google fix this. if other search engines fix it first i still won't use them because they still need to come up to the level of google first!

Oh thanks i thought it looked it bit dodgey what a naughty boy wonder why lol maybe he was doing for a big flow of mycents?

some members want to get a lot of mycents soon. it could be due to an overdue invoice waiting for them, or just the urge to buy their hosting soon. but what they don't realise is that copying content to earn mycents quickly will blacklist them and this may affect their hosting services as well. so this is not at all recommended. if you're in such a hurry to buy hosting use your own money instead of trying to cheat the company which is giving it to you for free!
