How To Crack A Windows Xp Account Password Using Cain & Abel

J.C.

Ever forgotten your password and been unable to use your Windows XP Account? Ever wonder what your family has got on the computer? Now you can find out. Using a program called Cain & Abel (which can be downloaded freely from the publisherâs website, http://www.oxid.it/), we can have any account password within a day. The amount of time it takes to complete this task can vary depending on how strong the accountâs password is. I decided to do this project because I enjoy working with computers and informing people of technology.

Cain & Abel, developed by oxid.it (http://www.oxid.it/), is a password recovery tool for Windows. It as created to help mainly network security administrators, because it has many network tools integrated into it. It has APR (Arp Poisoning Route), which if used correctly can sniff out data transferences in LANs. The sniffer tool that is integrated into Cain can detect almost every typical encryption method of all types of protocols. It also has built in calculators and crackers for all these types of encryptions. It has trace route for pinpointing locations of IP Addresses, and it has much more.

STEPS:

1. Download Cain & Abel (must have Windows!) from http:http://www.oxid.it/.

2. Install & Run Cain & Abel.

3. Click on the Cracker tab.

4. Click LM & NTLM Hashes in the box on the left.

5. Now click anywhere in the big white space.

6. Then click the blue cross near the top.

7. Click next.

8. Now right click the profile you want cracked and choose Brute Force and then LM Hashes. This will give you the Local Machine password of the user. If you want the password of the network user, you should choose NTLM Hashes.

9. Now click start. The rest is all waiting. Enjoy!

Very nice and very precious tutorial, thanks. I will try this as soon as I am back home. Since several years I wanted to bruteforce an admin account, and now I know how to do this.By the way, er.... are you sure this is not against the forum rules ?Read carefully our forum rules again, and take into account that if an angry mod walks around here he could simply remove this post.

Then let him. I'm a hacker. Sharing my information and knowledge is what I do and it's what I enjoy. I didn't write this so that everyone would go off stealing passwords. I wrote it for the sake of knowledge. I'd rather someone get mad at me for doing what is right than someone get mad at me for doing something wrong.

However, I'm just curious. Does this trick allow you to really know the password ? Or does it just remove it, allowing you to put your own one ?

It gives you the password.

Well from what I think, password cracking software decodes the password in order for you to gain access with the current password. I don't think that this is password resetting software, like a password reset disk, but is software developed in order to decode a password.Whatever it is, it can be used for good or malicious purposes, the latter most likely. It is questionable that this is permitted within forum rules.

OK, I'm pretty convinced that this topic is against the forum rules. Maybe I'm wrong, that's why I did not simply suppress it. This post explicitely teaches how to crack and admin password, which could be used for unhonest purposes. So, I thinkd that at least this post should not be visible by everyone. If you think that I am wrong, and that this topic is not against our forum rules, please fill free to move the whole topic back to :Free Web Hosting > Computers & Tech > How-To's and Tutorials > MISC (no matching category) forum.Yordan
