The Astahost Rules... Nothing to see here..

Markymark2

Hi guys,

I had a set of standard replies and warnign messages saved in my Opera but after a rebuild I forgot to save them so I started to make new ones.

Below is the standard "Plag" message I would send out form now on.

Hi,

I am one of the team of moderators that look after the Xisto forums.

We check out the posts on the forum as they come in and also heavly check out new members posts on the forum.

Xisto has a lot of rules about copying information from other websites, these rules can be found here http://forums.xisto.com/topic/77393-welcome-to-xisto-open-discussion-free-web-hosting/

I have found a post of yours that is copied from another site, so I am giving you a warning about this.

You can copy text from another site but you must use the BBCODE Quote tags (they are found on the toolbar above here ^^^^, the speech bubble icon) to wrap the text in.

Example.

This is text that was taken form another website.

This is back to normal posting text.

Please read the rules and stick by them.

Thanks very much for your co-operation.

Mark420

When I read the rules fully myself there is no mention at all about copying posts from other sites or anything about including the Quote BBCODE tags when you do quote a site.

I went to the Trap boards and read the rules there too, they are the same apart form some more rules about the shoutbox.

Xisto Board Rules & Guidelines.

The Following set of rules must be kept in mind by all members of this forum :

Languages (warning): All posts made must be written in decent english. This means you will at least try to write gramatically correct sentences and be a little careful at what you're trying to say. We're not all psychic, so if you want to make something clear, do it the right way. Should a post be made in another language, you should at least add an english translation to it.

Spam (warning): Any post that is off-topic or contributes nothing useful or interesting to a thread is considered to be spam. Most spam posts will be moved or deleted. Spam includes posts that:

only contain emoticons.

only contain a short message, such as "LOL", "thank you" or "hello".

Double Posts (warning): Double posts will not be allowed. If you already made a post and wish to add something, use the button. It is there for a reason.

Short Posts (deleted): Posts that are under roughly 150 characters or less than about 25 words are considered to be pointless, and will be deleted. Routine maintenance will automatically delete such posts.

Stay active (suspension): Once a user has been granted a hosting account (s)he must stay active in these forums for as long as (s)he wishes to keep that account. This hosting company is community based and we do not want users to post solely for the sake of hosting. Staying active means you must contribute to the forum at least once every two weeks, and visit it at least once every week. Failure to doing so will result in your account being suspended or removed.

Privacy (warning) : Posts containing private information of a person, will not be allowed. You will respect any person's privacy at all times. This rule does not apply to situations where this information is of vital importance, or when it is your own. Yet please be careful when posting information about yourself and keep in mind that search engines scan these pages. Private information includes, by is not limited to:

eMail adresses, IP adresses, IM handles and other contact information.

Full or partial names, postal addresses, or other physical information.

Social information, Passwords, ...

Advertising (warning): Advertising on the forum is not allowed under any but the following conditions:

a website in the review website forum providing it does not compete with any

of our services.

when it offers a solution to a problem stated.

Subjects (warning): The subject line of a thread should be descriptive, not something like "help plz." If a certain subject has already been discussed, making a new thread about it is discouraged. Please browse or search the forums before posting a thread.

Respect (frowned upon): All the members in this forum must respect and treat justfully all visitors of this forum. Everyone shall be treated equally in the matters of judgement. "Flaming" members unjustfully will not be allowed.

Swearing (frowned upon): Cursing and swearing is highly discouraged. Keep your language decent, and don't talk provocative.

Text Style (warning): Messages should be written so that all members can easily read them. Use of colour and diffrent text size is discouraged, FULL CAPS and CamElCapS are frowned upon. They will only lower you in respect by the general forum population.

Illegal Content (ban): Posting illegal content, or referring to it with, for example, a link, and even discussing such material will not be allowed. Such material includes but is not limited to :

Warez, or other illegally distributed software.

Hacking tools.

Pornography or nudity not safe for children.

Avatars & Signatures (image removal - warning): Images of large dimentions or file sizes are not allowed as they will interfere with the forum's layout or displaying performance (esp. with users on slower connections).

Maximum signature dimensions: 590 pixels wide, 125 pixels high

Corrective Action: If you fail to follow these rules, you are at risk of receiving a punishment stated next to the rule. Every warning you receive will bring you closer to being banned permanently from the forum, and thus, eventually loosing your hosting account here. We also reserve the right to edit/delete your posts/account or deny your access to this board. If you are banned, you must not try to bypass the ban, for example, by registering new accounts, and you may not post messages to any part of the board.

Even though we attempt to edit or remove any messages that are against these rules or the law, it is impossible for us to review every message posted on this board. For this reason, you acknowledge that all messages posted on this board express the views and opinions of the original message author and not necessarily the views of the Forum Staff. Therefore we take no responsibility and cannot be held liable for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy and completeness of every message.

Note that any data provided to this board, including your IP address, can be stored in a database. Private information will not be disclosed to third parties without your consent. However, we cannot be held liable for any hacking attempt in which your data is compromised.

Xisto Shoutbox rules.

Below listed are preamble to main rules of the Shoutbox. We cannot list out every minor detail because it would take forever! Forum moderators will guide you to the rest of Shoutbox rules. And as always, administrators and moderators of Xisto forum reserves the final decision.

These are just the main features. Remember, you would not be banned just as long as you abide by these rules!

Do NOT post links in the Shoutbox. This includes links to your topics or any other sites. You can only post a link if it leads to a Xisto Corporation site. They are Xisto.com, Qupis.com, Xisto.com, Ipbgaming.com, GFXTrap.com and Antilost.com. Furthermore, you may only post links to the following site if you are helping somebody by doing so.

It is strictly forbidden to post links to your own sub-domain of the aforementioned sites.

Do NOT promote your topic to be read. We all can read the forum and not one post is more important than others.

Be kind to others using the Shoutbox.

Do NOT use inappropriate language.

Respect everyone and treat the forums with care since it took a good amount of time to create this service.

Do NOT post large pictures in the Shoutbox.

Be active and have fun!

So you see there we need at least to change the rules to include the rules of the shoutbox from Xisto, but also I think we need to make changes to the Rules to reflect the rule that the mods and admins are enforcing everyday.

I feel a bit stupid in a way warning ppl for copying posts when we have no rule about it officially.

Also the FAQS are down so if there is anything about copying posts no-one can access it.

So Vujsa, Buffalo, ME, etc can we have a look into this? I really think it needs to be changed.

Marky;)

The additions to Xisto Shoutbox rules were collaborated addition initiated by me. It's because Xisto is more geared towards younger audience. Therefore, some aspects need to be spelled out word by word. However, this isn't the case (hopefully) in Xisto. This is the mature, professional gathering place for higher intellectual minds who understand and appreciate forum community and its provided service.Spelling things out to mature members may sound like a nag than trying to be clear in part... what do you think? The following statement should never go public: Send jabronies to Xisto if you must. I'll take them. I really want Xisto to have the respect and admiration that it truly deserves. I'll keep the kids at bay, you guys go play by the deep end your hearts content lol

You can always use your personal notepad in My Controls - that's what I do

Good points guys but still doesnt address the issue that there is NO copying rule, so how can we enforce a rule that isnt there?

BuffaloHelp

I really hope that every Xisto members know plagiarism is not only unprofessional, it's a mockery to him/her self and this community. But if any member forgets this you have admins' full support on your moderation. Don't feel afraid or hesitant about what you feel is right. If you want to, you can always PM any admin and see his/her side of the view. You guys ARE, in essence, the extended enforcers of OpaQue who created Xisto. Feel free to police any plagiarism and other un-Xisto like conduct.Although the actual "do not copy articles from elsewhere" is not spelled out, two forum rules are interchangeable, sometimes. We are here to contribute in original, well structured intelligent conversation. This does not include cut and paste job. <_<Furthermore, please start your discussion on how to amend to the current Xisto board rules. If it's for the better maybe we should modify...to stay current with the time.

Although it won't hurt to have the rules set in place about plagiarizing, I agree that the members here should know this by now. Copying and pasting is cheating the system. I suspended member's accounts here before and didn't hear a fuss about this not being mentioned in the forums. These trouble makers usually hope that we don't catch it quick enough and give them hosting...but they'll slip and get caught at some point

What I am doing is looking at the whole posting proccess as a newbie. He thinks he can copy posts from any tech blog archive etc and get away with it.Us as Mods or Admins protest about this and go on about the rules..but to me the rules are kinda inpomplete on this specific issue. This is the main issue that esp the mods are policing on a day to day basis and denying hosting packages on but there is no rule set to fall back on.This is my core argument..ofc I enforce this rule .. deny ppl hosting because of it .. but it seems to be an unwritten rule..How can someone new to this whole concept be judged on this when there is no rules set out for the police ( us guys) to comply with ?

WeaponX

I don't remember the last time I mentioned that it was against the rules here....most likely did in the past though. Now I just warn them and give them a notice that it was copied from another source. If they can think, I'm sure they can understand after reading the Notice I posted and seeing the warning that it's against the rules here.I guess to clear the air here at Xisto, we might as well just post it then. Some users are "thick headed" to say the least

BuffaloHelp

And thus I ended with

please start your discussion on how to amend to the current Xisto board rules. If it's for the better maybe we should modify...to stay current with the time.

Start the composing of words and phrases and let admins take a look.

If this helps to get the thoughts going, please see http://forums.xisto.com/topic/38951-topic/?findpost=265694 for some idea on how OpaQue stands on one free hosting account per person. Although I have replied to the question, OpaQue did not correct my answer. Therefore, I assume I answered it correctly.
