Windows Vienna Next Version of Windows

Recommended Posts

Windows "Vienna" is the next version of Windows following Windows Vista and soon to be released Windows Longhorn Server. The next client version of Windows was originally codenamed "Blackcomb," though the company renamed it to "Windows Vienna" in early 2006 and to "Windows Seven" or "Windows 7" more recently. Microsoft currently plans to ship Vienna in 2009, about two to two and a half years after Vista. The next major release of Windows is expected two years after Vienna, in 2011.Features: Microsoft hasn't publicly committed to any features for Vienna and the company is currently still deciding what this next Windows release will look like. We do know a few things about Vienna, however: It will include a new version of Windows Explorer that is being built by the same team that designed the Ribbon user interface in Office 2007. It will likely include some form of the "Hypervisor" (Windows Virtualization) technologies that will ship shortly after Windows Server "Longhorn". It will also likely include the WinFS (Windows Future Storage) technologies, though they won't be packaged or branded as WinFS.Bill Gates said in a tech conference that the next OS will be more web centric and will have more usability features.Hope MS comes up with something new and completely unique.

From reading up on Vienna a bit, it seems like it at least claims to be something unique. ((I mean like... Light reading <__<))Anyway, I'm kind of surprised we're seeing another Windows so soon, even though, as far as I understand it was started like 7 years ago and just been repeatedly put off and delayed. I just think it's a bit strange XDI'm also kind of glad to see it coming though... Vista, as far as I've seen of it, seems like a major dissapointment after all the time it took to get out from the release of XP.

Sure another piracy of ideas. Micro$oft works that way .Vista looks like the worst fork of compiz.I wish that Vienna have less blue screens/bugs/holes.But the "wisdom" says: "Better things on life are FREE", like salvation :)

Microsoft has started preparing for the next OS even before Vista was released. The current kenel of Windows Vista will be replaced by a new kernel which will more stable. The new kernal will replace the current Vista by the Vista Service Pack 1, which will be released along with Windows Longhorn server

People claiming that microsoft is working on a new release way too soon after their release of vista aren't really thinking that much.It takes years to come up with a new version of windows, it isn't like as soon as a new version of windows is released the developers just take vacations for 3 years and then come back for a month and make a new version of windows....Also, about starting it before the release of vista, I am sure that is because Microsoft had numerous features that they wanted to have in vista that did not make it in time for its release, therefore the next version of windows started in order to be able to save time with programming.I am guessing that it will be a better os than the previous, because as much as people complain, microsoft has been making an operating system that is more and more stable (overall) throughout the years. And before you go saying that I am a microsoft lover, I am not. Yes I do use windows for a number of things, but I also use linux a ton. They are both great operating systems depending on what you are trying to do.

the windows Vista just brought the cool interface that was only available to Mac before to the PC. other than that it just has a few enhanced features like ready boost and excellent gaming support.whereas the next version of Windows is deemed to change the entire way we use windows, there will be an alternative way to access the files and programs no more START menu. B)

Well, I only can bet that Windows Vienna won't be out on 2009 as they announced it and if it will be, then it still will be unstable.. I am still waiting, even though not to much, for Vista to get better and moreover, thinking of upgrading my hardware, but I am not in rush.. ;]

The Windows Vista Kernel ( the base of the OS) will be updated to a newer and stable version with the Vista Service Pack 1.The Vista SP 1 is expected to be released as soon as the Windows Longhorn Server is released. The newer kernel will be more stable and secure and advanced than the present kernel of Vista.

Note the fault in your reasoning here. You act surprised that they would be able to release a windows soon, after there has been one that was so slow - while at the same time you can't have forgotten yet they released products prior to that.Strange? No, rather only reasonable more products seem to come faster when this last one was already admitted to be a very slow release. One event does not make it a trend! (It rhymes)

A more 'episodic' OS subscription system seems to be more favorable.

Vista isn't good but I hope Vienna will be...however what a wired name.
WinXP is good and all they are doing is making OSes worse than XP.

Haha, I totally agree man. XP is the best Windows OS in my opinion. I had vista on my laptop when I got it; it was worth the time and effort to find drivers for the hardware to have support in XP. Vista is nice for multimedia, but I need an operating system not a movie always playing on my screen. B)

Windows Vista now Vienna. Man they are really trying to eat peoples pockets with their release. After the official release many have felt that the release of vista was cool but not a best OS system to purchase because it lacks the compatibility of many softwares old and new. So buying it would be like bricking your computer where is would be totally useless to you unless you have compatible software for it. Now they are deciding to release a new OS system in two years named Vienna. I hope their next release will at least address the compatibility issues that are found in the new OS such as vista. I have yet to upgrade my OS from XP because I have heard many bad things that have happened to peoples computers because of their sudden urge to upgrade to a new OS that takes advantage of direct X 10. I believe that I will probably and eventually upgrade to a new OS if I feel that it is necceassary otherwise whats the point. Most importantly I hope that microsofts next release will at least be unique overall and not keep on copying other peoples idea and thinking that they can make it better. For example, look what they have done to IE7 when they try to copy firefox's tab feature. The IE7 tab feature is more of a pain then it is without it. I prefer firefox's browser with its many features of turning off all page styles and analyzing a pages code. IE7 does not offer many feature which you can do that or none that I have heard or seen of. Most importantly I hate how IE sudden puts a box on all flash objects, I know they did that as a form of secruity, but why a annoying box why cant it be invisible and less annoying, which is another reason why I prefer firefox. The swf object box that IE7 has ruins many website designs, I do however know of a bypass of the dumb box that IE7 has but I rather not have to go an extra length to code in a bypass to make it compatible with IE7 when it should be compatible in the first place. Flash is everywhere and to have something like IE7 to put a box around it makes it a nuisance. I hope they somehow just remove that box in the near future, and improve their softwares with a unique taste and not a typical taste of what has already been done. I am not a microsoft supporter but I am also not a hater. I just use a lot of PC products and need them to be more original then trying to be a copy of something.
