Introduction:



One of the most dreaded error messages for a

Windows user is the blue screen, or the Blue Screen of Death

(BSOD) as it is popularly known, which suddenly pops up informing

you that something is seriously wrong with Windows. What this

screen essentially means is that Windows has crashed and needs

to reboot to recover . Usually, you will be able to recover and

continue without any problems



Problems causing BSOD :

The BSODs are generally associated with five problems

faced by Windows:

❍ Software or device drivers may have a problem.


❍ A hardware device is malfunctioning , or was removed while

Windows was running, or does not fully support Windows. On older

machines, outdated BIOS information can also cause errors.



❍ Hardware or hard disk errors during installation of Windows.



❍ Corrupted startup files , hardware and driver software during

Windows startup can also be the cause. This type of error

will always require troubleshooting before Windows can start

up normally.



❍ Intermittent errors that appear randomly. These can be caused

by an overheating processor, a defective memory system, a dying or

dead hard disk , or faulty software and device drivers.


Solution :



These are some of the most common Stop Messages along with

their cause and suggested resolution:



Stop Code: STOP 0x0000000A

IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL

Code Meaning : Faulty device drivers, or services from backup

utilities or virus scanners

Recommended Resolution: Remove, disable or stop the offending

drivers, backup utilities or anti-virus programs. Get updated

software from the manufacturer.



Stop Code: STOP 0x0000001E

KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Code Meaning: Some driver files may be causing a problem.

Recommended Resolution: Remove, disable or update the driverfile

listed in the error message. Verify if new hardware installation

is correct.



Stop Code: STOP 0x00000024

NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM

Code Meaning: Usually caused by disk corruption in the NTFS file

system or third-party disk defragmenters.

Recommended Resolution: Use hard disk diagnostic software to

verify that the hard disk is working. Remember to always Use

Microsoft-certified disk defragmenters.



Stop Code: STOP 0x0000002E

DATA_BUS_ERROR

Code Meaning: Caused by a parity error in the system memory.

Almost always caused by hardware problemsa configuration

issue, defective hardware, or incompatible hardware.

Recommended Resolution: If physical RAM was recently added to

the system, remove it and see if the error still occurs. If the error

persists, try disabling memory caching in the BIOS. Else remove,

repair or reinstall the defective hardware.



Stop Code: STOP 0x00000050

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Code Meaning : Caused when requested data is not found in memory;

the system checks the page file, but the missing data is

I dentified as unable to be written to the page file

Recommended Resolution: Remove any newly-added hardware or

run diagnostic software supplied by the manufacturer to check if

the component has failed. Install updated device drivers or roll

back to a previous driver.



Stop Code: STOP 0x0000007B

INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

Code Meaning: Caused when Windows loses access to the system

partition during the Startup process. This can be caused by: an

incorrect driver for a SCSI, RAID, or UDMA IDE controller;

incorrect ARC path in the Boot.ini; or a failed boot device.

Recommended Resolution: Verify that the disk storage device is

installed correctly and working. Reinstall or update the device

driver. Verify that the BIOS setting for the device is correct.

Verify the integrity of the hard disk.



Stop Code: STOP 0x0000007F

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

Code Meaning: Caused when the CPU generates an error that the

kernel does not catch. Usually hardware relatedespecially RAM.

Can also be caused by CPU overclocking, or defective components

on the motherboard.

Recommended Resolution:

1 . Run the memory diagnostic to test RAM.

2. Restore over clocked settings to previous values.

3. Repair/replace the motherboard.

4. Disable sync negotiation in SCSI BIOS; check SCSI termination.



Stop Code: STOP 0x000000D1

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Code Meaning: Occurs when the system attempts to access

pageable memory at a process IRQL that is too high

Recommended Resolution: Very similar to STOP 0xA. Remove,

disable or stop the offending drivers, backup utilities or anti-virus

programs. Get updated software from the manufacturer.



Stop Code: STOP 0xC000021A

STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED

Code Meaning: Caused when the user-mode subsystem (Win logon

or CSRSS) is fatally compromised and security cannot be

guaranteed. The most common causes are third-party applications or

mismatched system files.

Recommended Resolution:

1. Remove, disable, or roll back any newly-installed device driver.

2. Uninstall any newly-installed software.

3. Use Windows-compatible backup/restore programs.

4. Restore full control permissions to the local SECURITY account

on the system root folder by doing a fresh parallel installation of

Windows on a separate partition.

I had this a lot, it turned out the proccesser fan was broken.I had errors Paged Error in non-page... and IRQL or less.

I haven't gotten a Blue Screen of Death in years. Even my XBOX 360 never gotten any errors. No Ring of Death there either.xboxrulz

I haven't gotten the Blue Screen of Death for quite a while now. I do enjoy phoning Dell Technical Support for an unresolvable problem though. I almost forgot that you can manually trigger the Blue Screen of Death.

Really, do I even want to know how that happens, besides deleted certain system files?

I experince bsod but the fact is that the error changes as I restart the system so I don't know where to start to correct the problem, so can someone help with ideas on how to solve the dreadful situation?

Hello, well I have Vista 64, I have been getting heaps of the above listed BSOD's

Today I got Stop 0x00000024, but could get no more as the computer reset.

I Changed my Master Hard Drive to a newer driver and formatted installed Vista Fresh. All was okay for Days then again it has happened. Like 3 times over the course of 6 days.

I have scanned my Memory, updated all drivers, run Mainboard tests and only have the bare minium programs installed, mostly drivers and Divx 7 Adobe9 and Flash 10, oh and before the reformat when the BSODS were extremely common I was using Symantec Endpoint,  Switched to Corporate 10.1 and now I am using NIS 2009.

My Memory passes all tests for over 24 hours straight, my motherboard says it is fine, my Q9550 is running nice and cool with a silent Knight II cooler my memory is cosair OCZ running at recommended timings, I removed my TV card altogether b4 the reinstall and have not put it back in. No extra peripherals connected. Changed my Sata DVD to a newer one, tried my ram one stick at a time to no avail. Tested my PSU all rails with a multimeter, all was good. Mainboard passed visual inspection as well. Gigabyte Ultra Durable II DS4 X38 Chipset. And Newest Drivers for my 9800GTX+ Video Card

Can anyone give me any Suggestions? Thanks Heaps.

Hi, I had this problem for about two weeks, my system is a p35 neo with q9300 quad 8gb ddr2 800 ram, a 9800 gtx gpu. Running windows 7. Silky smooth and fast, then bsod, I tried everything the error codes varied as did the bsod codes. I did mem86 test. Ran geek squad, removed ram hard drives you name it I did it. Then I found the problem. One of the white plastic pegs on the heatsink caddy had broken, lifting the heatsink slightly the cpu overheated and random bsod. Easy fix new better fitting heatsink, system perfect again. I downloaded msi's dual core centre (free) great little tool,this highlighted the overheating problem. Hope this helps with any one elses bsod probs. Cheers David.

I have HP using windows vista and recently just started getting start-up error message in a blue screen: STOP 0X00000024 (0X001904AB, 0X83BD8538, 0X83BD8234, 0X8F4C2162).

I'm not very technical and as I started reading some of the posted solutions in forums. I came across with the one listed below, which I'm assuming is related to the error I'm getting.  Baseed on the speficic error message I'm getting (see above), can anyone verify if the recommended solution below applies to my situation?  If not, does anyone have ideas what this errror message I'm getting means and how to go about fixing it? Anything I need to buy, or is it worth it buying an extended warranty from HP? Any input is appreciated.  Thanks.

I have an acer 5620 extensa. I have a laundry list of BSoD's, I'm kinda used to them now. Last summer, I made a comment on yahoo answers (US Gov't vs: Twin Towers), my troubles then started, at the time, I was using vista, then xp pro, then and still current, win 7 ultimate. I had sprint wireless and did not mind at first that I had to use an external dvd-ram drive, however, w/o sprint, I now rely on normal wireless (built-in).   no signal and no dvd, I installed older units. Now I have constant BSoD's. My drive and wireless are fine, but because windows cant shut them down, it instead causes BSoD's. My os keeps changing permissions and passwords and then disables my user account, SO, thanks to a few sites, I now sport 3rd party windows 7 manager (love it!), although I still have BSoD's-but I am getting closer to a solution since now I have the use of logging onto the "ACTUAL" Administrator account.in case of BSoD while seeing "JOHNNY",   I'll be back.

blue screen nightmare.Bsod Error & It's Causes

Hello every body. Lately I been getting this one blue screen and these two files that describe my problem. But I don't know how to open them. And every time I try to run a reg program to hopefully I can put this to rest. Its making me quit mad. And I was wondering because also I'm having desplay issues with my video card drivers. Could that be the cause???? some one please e-mail me?
