Recommended Posts

I am looking for the best free website builder ever for my website. If you know any yet us all know. I am looking for something witch will allow me to work with flash, like put flash on my website. Also I would like something so others can submit there own flash to my site if they won't to. Basically I am looking for the ultimate free website builder. Dose Xisto provide a website builder?

Hello Flash,

Not sure if I understand what you are asking. Are you looking for an online web site builder? Generally they don't have much flexibility. You select a template, add your content, a few images, and maybe you get to choose your back ground colour.

If you're asking about an HTML editor, then what I would recommend depends on your level of skill. But regardless, stay away from Frontpage.

There are two ways to edit HTML. Either you use a true HTML editor (and you need to learn HTML) - even notepad works for that. Or you use a WYSIWYG editor. The only one I would recommend here is dreamweaver. But even that has its draw backs. As a full time web developer since '96, I find it faster to use an HTML editor. The one we use is ACE HTML PRO.

You mentioned flash. If you want to work with flash, then you need flash.

I was just discussing with my partner the other day, that when flash first came out it was really cool and developers were building all these FLASH web sites. The aftermath all these years later, is we hardly ever use it. Most of what we would do in flash is now done in Adobe After Effects, but we only actually built a small handful of "flash sites". Everything else just has elements of flash in it.

As far as submissions are concerned, i think a CMS (Content Management System) would help you. Yes its free too. There are many CMS out there but it depends on which one suits your needs.

I personaly like using the e107 CMS, easy to install on asta, and easy to use and also has a built in forum system. Plus its got loads of plugins and a huge userbase. And incase you run into any trouble, the forums are helpful all the time.

Another one i like is MKPortal, but well that needs a seperate forum software installed. So try out both and see which one suits you. I am shure u will get other CMS names from users here, so i suggest you try them out too.

e107

MKPortal

e107 and MKPortal are two independent CMS packages. Firstly, inorder to use these CMS, you need to have a host that supports PHP & MySQL, like Xisto for instance. When you have the required credits, apply for hosting here and when you are provided one then you can start uploading and testing which CMS would suit you better.

If you cant wait enough for an online hosting, you could always make your PC a webserver and test things out before you go for a online host. To make a webserver on your PC, you could use USBWebServer, go through the installation and FAQs if you run into problems and set up a Web server on your local PC first. Make shure PHP and MySQL are included in the install.

Then all you have to do is drop the folder of e107 in the www folder and go to FireFox or IE and type in LOCALHOST/ .. Go through the steps on the screen and u'll be up and running with a CMS on your local PC in no time.

But instead of goin through all this trouble, i'd suggest you collect enough credits on Xisto and apply for a hosting of your choice. And once your approved and ready to go. Then guiding you through the installation is a piece of cake :P .. or you could use the CMS readme file that ALWAYS helps and is more understandable for a new user.

Actually, you shouldn't create entire Flash websites without a separate HTML version (that would be pretty useless, why not just only HTML?).

Flash sites aren't easily indexed by search engines so your site would get less visitors. Also, some people have Flash not installed or disabled (like Avant Browser can).

You can use Flash for elements such as menus and stuff, but try avoiding it.

Search Download.com for a list of free site builders and other helpful tools.

If you want to buiuld serious websites consider using an industry standard content management system (read as widely used) such as Drupal or Joomla.I prefer Joomla over Drupal because of ease of use.And Joomla has loads of addons like extensions, themes, templates etc etc..

Just ty it you will know what I meant :P
