Installing Mac - Need Some Help? keep getting the same error message

Hi all,I was hoping that someone here would be able to help since I havent been able to find help elsewhere! When i try to install mac os onto my macbook i keep getting the same error message. If i start the installation normally, i get to the grey 'apple' screen and the progress symbol (the spinning symbol) just keeps spinning!when i try in verbose mode (-v at the prompt) everything seems to be going well, then... i get a messagedisk1s2: I/O errorsam multimedia: read or write failed, asc = 0×11, ascq = 0×00sam multimedia: read or write failed, asc = 0×11, ascq = 0×00sam multimedia: read or write failed, asc = 0×11, ascq = 0×00sam multimedia: read or write failed, asc = 0×11, ascq = 0×00this keeps repeating over and over again! i have tried everything i know and its just not going! i really need this fixed as soon as possible. If anyone knows what happening and why im getting this message, please share!Thanks in adavance!

Not a mac guy, but it sounds like the hard drive might be the problem here.I assume this Macbook was just recently bought? Does it have an operating system on it now? Do you have any other Mac OS CDs that you can use to tray booting from it? I want to see if you can get Disk Utilities to run and check the hard drive.

Hey,After looking at the error it is seems that your disk is damaged or just has a few spots on it. Try to clean it up a bit or otherwise contact Apple and have them replace the Disk. You might be able to find some online sources. Hope this helps.

Yeah, it's a bad drive. Contact Apple support or the Genius bar at an Apple store if you have one near by. They'll be able to send it off for warrenty repairs.

I've taken it back to the apple store down the road! they're having a look at it for me and i should be getting it back in a few days! thanks for your suggestions though!but, when you say its the disk does that mean its the install cd that im using or the hard disk? also, how to i run the disk utilities to check the disk?

It's the hard disk drive. You will need to use the Mac OS CD to run Disk Utilities though. Boot from the OS X CD and go to Installer->Disk Utilities (if I remember correctly). You can select the hard disk drive and choose Verify Disk to see if it finds any errors.
Since it's under warranty, take it back to Apple to get it fixed.

At the moment i have no operating system on the hard drive and when i put in the mac install cd all i get is the grey screen with the apple logo (as i described earlier). so how can i get to the installer/disk utilities menu? thanks

Hey JimmyI thought you'd brought it in to be repaired. Your last question confuses me. If you want to start from the CD, I believe you hold down the "c" key while booting up or just slide the CD in when it's looking for an OS.

what i meant to say was that before i took it in i was having problems getting to the installer/disk utils menu! i couldn't even get to the installation screen!

but that aside, problem solved! i took it to the local mac store and they fixed it no problems! had it back in a few days and it was running fine!

Hi Jimmy, did the repair shop tell you what they did to fix the issue? I'm sure this would help others who are having similar issues

yeah! sorry i should have mentioned that! as most of you said, it was the hard drive! you were all right!!they replaced it for me and everything has been going fine since! so if you ever get a similar error! get the hard drive checked!thanks again foir all your help!-jimmy

A little different thing occursInstalling Mac - Need Some Help?

 Well I believe that you have found the answer but I replaced my HDD but there was no change when I boot the CD it is stuck on the gry screen for hours I later tried going into verbrose mode    -v and it gave the error SAM multimedia: READ or WRITE error

I got my HDD replaced and the error is still there 

Then I thought maybe its a CD problem I reburned it nothing new thn I downloaded 5 different ISO's of Mac and all of them gave me the same error. Then I tried replacing my DVD Drive no use I was still stuck on the same issue/txtmngr/images/smileys/smiley6.Gif

Any help would be appreciated

For future reference, you will have more luck getting Mac support on the official Apple forums (https://discussions.apple.com/welcome/) or even InsanelyMac forums (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/). Just a side note because the Mac section of Xisto seems to be a quiet when compared with other discussion topics on the Xisto forums.Back on the topic, I did a quick search of your error on the Apple forums and found another unanswered discussion topic there, which means that error you are encountering is quite rare. On other forums I have looked at, it seems that error usually appears when there is a problem with the DVD you are trying to install the Mac OS X operating system. Many suggestions have been to use better quality media i.e. DVDs from more 'reputable' brands e.g. TDK, and to burn the disc at a lower speed to avoid any burning errors encountered at higher speeds.Note: If you have a original Mac computer or notebook, you should have been provided with a official installation or recovery disc upon purchase. Those DVD's should work much better, because they have been manufactured with the data on the disc in a different way e.g. not burned by laser. Also, most of the errors mentioned above have been known to be caused by the use of 'unauthorised' modified versions of Mac OS X that have not been sanctioned by Apple and distributed by third-parties for installation on non-Mac computers.
