Firefox 2 Access-key and close tabs configuration

Recommended Posts

When I installed Firefox 2.0 I got a little probelm...

Accesskeys:

I use access-key to follow links and send forms very often, and in Firefox 1.5 y default they were used by pressing "Alt"+"Accesskey". In Firefox 2.0 the default value has changed, so to follow accesskeys you many press: "Alt"+"Shift"+"Accesskey" wich is more complicated.

To change Firefox 2's behaviour, browse: "about:config" and set the value of the following keys to:

ui.key.chromeAccess = 5

ui.key.contentAccess = 4

This way the menu bar accesskeys are associated to the combination "Alt"+"Shift", and the accesskeys are associated to "Alt".

Close tab button

Maybe you prefer the old style for thec lose tab button or maybe you just want to try new ones. If you want to change the behaviour of this button browse "about:config" and set the value of browser.tabs.closeButtons to:

0 -> if you want the close tab button to appear only in the active tab.

1 -> if you want it to appear on every tab (default for Firefox2.0)

2 -> if you don't want to see the close tab button any more (middle click to close tab)

3 -> if you preffer the old style close tab button on the right of the tabs bar.

Personally I preffer option "0", or "3". Option "2" is not comfortable when using a laptop with a touch pad. And for me option "2" is just the worst, it makes you close tabs accedentally when trying to focus them... it's realy anoying.

PD: Excuse me for my english, I hope you find this useful.

i would recommend you to use flock, to some extent, it looks really like firefox, but graphically, it looks much better than firefox and what impressed me the most is that you can use the extension for firefox on flock. Just try flock out, i am sure you will like it.

This works absolutely fine for me in both Firefox 2 and 3. Even with https sites I've yet to have a problem, and although a lot of my addons have yet to upgrade to FF3 I've noticed no other change in compatibility, so kudos to the Firefox team!Still, a nifty little bit of information, surely they could have put the ability to change the configuration in with the Options (Tools menu), though?
