Well your question is more than just a little vague, what are you looking for? Basic design rules? HTML guidelines? Specific technical tips? Also it would depend on the type of business, ie. creative businesses get away with more glitz and glammour than any other. If you are just looking for basic ideas on how to do it. Go to google and search other businesses in the same line of work, take the best ideas from each of the sites you find and integrate them. Don't outright steal the code, but definately see what your competition is doing and see if you can't get some really cool ideas for how to do your site. Just don't focus too much on the cool aspect or it will become less and less professional.

ok, be creative. Next, when I first started I would take professianal idea's slowly incorperate those into my sites. And you want everything to fit and look smooth. You don't want tables and images scattered through out your page. use good borders and quality pictures. Have fun. thats the best thing to do while using HTML. after you get a reader friendly page, learn Javascript, CSS....ect. I'm just now starting PHP, but thats a lill more advanced. Last of all, make sure you text doesn't clash with the background. If you have a bright blue background, please aviod putting like a bright green font over it. It gets anoyying. Send me a personal message if you need help with anything. Hope that helped, nickmealey

There are a lot of expensive programs out there like Dreamweaver & Frontpage. If you use thoes you don't really need to know very much HTML, at least not for design purposes.

You seem like you may be on a little more of a budget.

One thing that all awesome looking websites have in common are good graphics.

Although they must be placed on your page using HTML, the creation of graphics also is not a part of HTML.

I highly recomend Flash for making graphics, but again, that is very expensive, & it will take a lot longer to learn than HTML.

If you want to make really cool animated Flash banners for your site, for free, go to:
