Internet Explorer 7

Recommended Posts

Microsoft has publicly released internet explorer beta 3 a couple weeks ago. Is any one here using it? If so, what do u think?

Some peaple are saying that microsoft copied its competitors like firefox and opera. personally i think that is a dumb criticism.

Most security holes have been fixed in ie7, but some still remain. The official site for ie7:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17621/internet-explorer-downloads

If you cannot wait for the release of vista to use ie7, it can be downloaded/ordered on microsoft's web site which i posted above.

Some minor changes include a name change. Version 6 and before were known as "microsoft's internet explorer", Version 7 and most likely its future versions will be called "window's internet explorer". Tabbed browsing, etc.

I think it will be nice. what do u think?

I have used it and honestly it is crappier then the old ie 6, it looks so bad I cannot even fathom trying to use it, its layout is something you just cant get used to, AND worst part is you cant even revert back to the IE 6 look as far as I know. The only 2 new things are tabbed browsing and the Phishing filter but FF has had those forever now, and I am not just one of those Microsoft haters, I actually use IE6 more then firefox just because I am more comfy with it. IF IE7 went back to the normal looking IE6 I would not mind using it since I dont use tabbed browsing much anyways but other then that I cant stand it right now :D

I agree, it is so much more crappier than internet explorer 6, it just looks ugly and you don't know where everything is. Also it doesn't even include some of the new features in these other browsers. I have also found that the pages look 'mirrored' what i mean is that it looks like there is another copy of the page that is slightly aligned to the left or right and it makes it so much harder to read which is a pain. I'm sticking with opera 9 it has everything i need and i only use ie for the sites that opera doesn't support.

ie 6 - good enough for the less than average user
ie 7 - out of all the new features it looks ugly and you can't find your way around
opera/ff - get it. much more features, easy to use, downloadable themes.

well guys..... I dont think you can call IE 7 as UGLY! It of course looks SEXY and I like the looks...those glassy buttons cool effects and all! But as far as working is concerned, I think nothing is crappier than this...RSS feeds dont work properly, there is no GOOGLE search and the on eavailable with it....windows live search completely sux. it just doent open at any cost. they say that the interface isw nexxt gen! HUH! even the last gen didn't have that crappy look. Levae Tabbed browsing! firefox has it from 2 year and opera from almost 3.5 now! RSS feeds suck as agianst firefox and thunderbird. You cant change the looks like we do with our fox! It is of no use! I usually opened IE6 around 10-20 percent of time in past but after installing IE7, I just never open it now!!Long live open source ( at least for browsers)!

Well I have been using Opera for many years now but at work i HAVE to use IE ;(( (not all IT ppl at work understand the power of the Opera :D

I must say IE7 gives you nothing that Opera hasnt been running for years now or to that matter the poor child on the block -Firefox.

Also I hear that IE7 will fail the Acid test-
Acid Test Test
Opera 9 is the most compliant browser on the market at the moment I guess Firefox will come in 2nd and IE7 well down list behind Safari etc..etc..

I would also be very wary of using IE7 untill bugs and huge security holes are plugged, I can only imagine the amount of ppl writing hacks and exploits for IE7.IE6 has taken how many years to make it "secure"? I say "secure" as in "Microsoft Secure" a new phrase im coining ;)

Demonhawk also pointed out it cannot be downgraded to Ie6 again (maybe a total rebuild of Windows will solve this :o) and its probably impossible to uninstall it so that your copy of Windows is IE free?

I will not be joinign the bandwagon I will be sitting on my old trusty Opera Jalopy and having a fine time with all my added features...can i just say Widgets!!-soo cool!! Im even trying to write one myself :o)

lets say u buy windows vista whenever its released, are u going to be downloading firefox instead of using the new ie7? i never tried ie7 because i dont like using beta products. After looking at ie7's release notes and looked at the problems ie7 currently has, i wouldnt use it until the final product is released. When vista is released i would use what comes with the os, i personally dont like firefox, and never tried any other.i think the new "look" of ie7 is a good thing. tabbed browsing takes up much less ram than opening a new window everytime.i never had any problem with ie6. over 3 years it probably crashed less than 10 times.

I would still use Firefox, because I'm used to it and Internet Explorer 7 has nothing new to offer. I haven't tried this myself, so I need someone to confirm it, but I guess it still misinterprets the CSS code (for example ignores the !important thing) and therefore messes up a majority of web sites. If that one is solved, I congratulate them, but it's still not enough. It took them too long to insert tabs, and now it's an old idea, so nothing revolutionary. Firefox is still the best :D

lucky for you or you are less exposed to the net and do less task..
being a webprogrammer and also using setup programs on the net to control remote computers..

IE crash at least once in every 4 hours.. i think there is a memory leak somewhere.. my memory usage skyrocket to 400mb or 600mb from 200mb usage... where do that memory go?

with firefox or opera.. my memory skyrocket to 400mb also but it slowly drop slowly.. maybe the firefox extension causes the memory usage boost while starting.. opera stayed at around 100mb increase in my memory usage.. neither firefox or opera crashes on my transaction plus they can render a lot of stuff that IE cannot..
