Newb @ Programming Seeking Suggestions

Hey all, I'm new to programming and I have a hard time deciding on a cross-platform language so I can write for Linux, Macintosh, and Windows.I want to make some basic programs, and if possible (as in language support), games.I know that Java is one of them, so is Perl.Please reply.Thanks,xboxrulz

yeah, i'm going to have to go with java. you can create some programs with some nice graphics and it can be used on virtually any system. if you making games you could easily create a great one with java, just look at Runescape, that game is made in java and is an incredibly addicting one. but if you would rather do it in a different language i dont really know which other ones there are to suggest. sorry:(
