vizskywalker 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2006 I'm pretty sure it involves a registry edit, which is fine if anyone can find it for me, but I want to add the Hibernate option to the options on the Shutdown menu. For reference, I have Windows XP Pro SP2. I know that if I hold down shift the Standby button changes to Hibernate, but I would prefer to have Hibernate be a constant fourth option to the left of the Stansby button. So here are my replies.m^e: I know about that, the problem is that first you need to install update KB893056. Which I don't have. And Microsoft hasn't freely distributed to the public. And you can only get by contacting microsoft support, and I can't even find the right e-mail address for them, plus they supposedly charge unless you can prove your machine needs the hotfix. And i have a feeling they are going to say that since I can simply hit the shift key to mkae the standby button turn into a hibernate button, I don't really need it. If you want to find it simply do a search for hotfix and sp3 and the site will be in the top few links. It is a site that has access to many new hotfixes that are post sp2 but not officially released yet. gigglecream 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2006 Hi, right have read through this thread, and need to ask you lot a question, hopefully it hasn't dried up coz it's been a while since anyone posted but here goes...Right i baught a laptop with XP home preloaded on it, an i had all four buttons right from the start. Great.However I have now upgraded it to XP Pro (using upgrade function) but now i have lost that all important fourth button. I have looked through the registry and found the relevent subtree and it apears that i already have all the necassery components complete with ShowHibernateButton REG_DWORD. when i click modify on this the value is already set to 1 and hex is the ticked option. but despite all this i cannot see that button any ideas guys? if it helps there are also another REG_DWORD named HibernateAsDefault also with value set to 1, and the is a REG_SZ named (default) which under data has "(value not set)"please help gigglecream Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

It is a two stage operation to get the hibernate button to appear.1) Install the hotfix, which it looks like you haven't done.2) Set the registry key, which it sounds like you have done.I won't tell you where to find the hotfix, as mentioned previously, although it is theoretically possible to get from Microsoft.com, although not easily.~Viz Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

If it isn't installed in your shutdown menu and you want it displayed there then proceed as follows. You should be aware that this method 'does' disable the hybrid sleep option. 1/ Click Start button 2/ On the Start Menu, Click the Control panel icon 3/ In the Control Panel Window, Click the Power Options icon 4/ In the Power Options window look in the 'preferred plan' section in the Right hand pane 5/ Below your preferred plan, I.E., Balanced, you will see a link marked 'Change plan settings', Click on this 6/ In the 'Change Settings For Plan' window, Click the 'Change advanced power settings link' 7/ The Advanced power settings window now opens 8/ Look down the list that appears in this window and Click the Plus (+) sign next to the Sleep option 9/ Now Click the Plus (+) sign next to the 'Allow hybrid sleep' option. The setting should currently be 'On' 10/ Click on the Allow hybrid sleep setting an a dialogue box will appear with an arrow to the Right 11/ Click the Arrow and from the drop down Menu select OFF 12/ Now Click the OK button 13/ Finally Close the change settings for the plan window 14/ If you now look at your Shutdown menu on the Start button menu you should see the hibernate option. -reply by Ama Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
