S. Dakota Working On Abortion Ban

Recommended Posts

South Dakota recently passed a bill in their Senate that would make abortions in that state illegal unless they are performed to save the mother's life. This isn't a new law yet - it still has to pass the state's House.

The story reported by CNN.com.

My opinion is that state's rights should supercede. Each state should figure this out for themselves. Citizens of each state can approach Senators and House members through petitions, letters and other campaigns to make our opinions known, so it isn't like a small group of guys are the only ones who have any say in the matter.

However: CNN and other news sources report that South Dakota is doing this to challenge Roe v. Wade on the national level (i.e. at the Supreme Court). I wonder how that would turn out if this bill passes into law and our Supreme Court is given the case.

So, what do you all think?

To be honest, I don't really care unless it started happening to me.I have never liked state laws, or how they are used to control people's lives and how they live. Why not just make the whole country become a christian country, since it's the only reason why abortion is seen this way. Why not just staple the bible to the lawbook.Gay marriages, none of the governments business, Abortions, none of the governments business and treated with privacy. We could look at it this way, how can we keep the people happy? Well considering the majority is built up of christians, then stopping gay marriages and abortions will make a lot more people happy. Either that's an insult to the christian-like way, or the christian-like way is not to follow god, but to be god.Times will never change, people are still slaves and allow themselves to be treated like slaves. It's sad when religion is forced upon you, it's even sadder when you're outnumbered by christians in which this is the case, what's the point in having a voice, you're not going to be heard.MC

I'm against abortion personally, but I think think gov's should even get involved. If people want to do it it isn't something I feel the general populace should dictate, but the inidivduals. I mean banning abortions will just raise the number of children who have horrible lives due to parents not having the abilities to raise them properly :|

The government deem it necessary to involve themselves when an issue can't be resolved publicly. Therefore, this leads to more deligation and extends the argument to the political side. In other words, yes they are inteferring, just to gain that extra bit of power.Abortion is a grey area. There is always times when abortion can be helpful or for the best.Dependant on the situation, abortion in my eyes can be wrong or right. For example, in the situation that the child will be born almost brain dead or will lead an impossibly difficulty life because of a syndrome, then it is better for the child not to be alive. This may seem cold-hearted, but would you want to go through your life fighting everyday things. However, in the instance that the parents don't want a child yet use no contraception (irrelevant of religion) then no, it is wrong for me.As for homosexuality, religion doesn't say it is a sin, nor does it say that gay marriage is not allowed. Different people interpretate the religious books in different ways, and why? Because religious books are mostly metaphoric teachings and records of past events.I have to agree with MC, religion is constantly forced down our throats. I think it is about time that humanity moved on from the constraints of past conditioning and seek out the true meaning of humanity and not be worried at what lies after-life.

What do you mean by the "christian-like" way? Is it the way christians live? Because christians dont live to be God but try to follow God.
