Pictiger Vs Imageshack - I Say Pictiger Wins

Since I post a lot of tutorials I decided to have the screenshots and examples remotely hosted to preserve space. Of course, I checked out ImageShack first, you know, 'cause it's ImageShack. I thought it was alright and used it for about... 10 minutes. It was taking forever to upload the 8+ pictures I use for each tutorial... and I have about 30 of those. I did a little bit of browsing and found a free image host, PicTiger, that totally blows ImageShack away. The only drawback is the inability to transload images. Aside from that, I love it! Here is a list of PicTiger's features:1. You can upload multiple pictures, up to 10 at a time (no need to register or purchase "upload credits")2. You can add a description AND categorize your uploaded images3. You can create and manage albums, which include a commenting system4. There are advanced uptions for uploading images including Auto-Crop, Fit, Sharpen, Custom Image Size, Custom Thumbnail Size, and Web Optimization.5. THE LOGIN BOX IS ACTUALLY ON THEIR SITE!! You don't need your registration URL everytime you want to login.6. Their site is prettier AND their logo is a tiger. Come on, who would win in a fight between a frog and a tiger?Now compare them to ImageShack and tell me, which service do you think is better? Pictiger looks like a better solution to picture hosting. I haven't tried it yet as i'm an imageshack user. By the looks of all the points that you've pointed out i think i'll give it a try and switch over =) Thanks for the info.

I gotta admit, Pictiger looks neat. It's got the best of ImageShack and Photobucket combined: 1MB filesize limit, photo management through albums, transloading, and unlimited hosting. They even allow upload of swf files and offer basic image editing to registered users! Nice.

 

It's still fairly new, though, and not as established as the other two image hosting services. Right now they're offering unlimited bandwidth... how will they do when they gain popularity and their bandwidth usage spikes? Also, they also say that while the uploaded images stay hosted for life, if the image is not active (does not have any page views) for 3 months, it will be deleted. Still, even with all that, the service looks attractive. Though I'm a dedicated ImageShack user, I'll definitely be trying Pictiger out. =^^=

 

Now if only I could get the ImageBot Firefox extension to work with Pictiger...

nice info, I will give Pictiger a try. I am using Imageshack currently, but each time I download my credits go down, i hate this.

Like the other users have said, the vast majority of imageshack users are more than willing to give other services a try. it's free after all.

Sounds interesting. I haven't used much of any of the image hosting sites but have been needing to on occasion lately, may as well try this one out then since it seems to have all the pros of the others. Thanks for sharing.

Okay, I finally tried Pictiger out. So far it seems a pretty good service and they seem to deliver exactly as advertised. They also have a couple of features that just might sway me over from ImageShack (my current fave). I especially like the ability to crop or resize your uploaded images. =^^=

 

If there is one beef I have with Pictiger, it's that you apparently can't transfer images between albums. It seems that the only way to get an image into an album is to go into the album you want to upload the image to and use the upload form there. Frankly, that's a rather cumbersome way to do. I hope that in the near future Pictiger will implement some form of file management system that allows you to transfer or copy your images from one album to another. If they do, Pictiger will definitely be my number one image host. =^^=

I gave it a try, seems really great. Seems to let you upload any image, and then you can add them to your html pages.Of course you cannot send zip files with several images like imageshack does. However, you can imagine upload an image, add the corresponding code you your webpage, upload the second image, add it's code, so it seems rather reasonable.I'm still curious to see how long they keep the "not visited" images.

ImageShack is ok, I wish they had an option of uploading more than 1 pic at a time, the hosted image urls are pretty long but then again which ones arent lol

Not bad, i havent seen a good decent free image host without registrations until i saw this. Awesome!

The only catch with PicTiger that I found was that it did not allow a normal hotlinking of the uploaded images. One can only hotlink the tumbnailed-verison of the picture. Atleast, that is what I understood from their FAQ:

Is hotlinking allowed? Hot linking is embedding an image into a message board, personal webpage, or ebay auction. You can not hotlink your large version of the image, but you can hotlink your thumbnail and link it to the larger image.

As far as I can remeber, ImageShack allows it as long as we have a link back from the image to ImageShack.

ImageShack offers some wide ranged tools, which for me are really great.I mostly use ImageShack QuickShot v1.5 when im ingame or if im doing tutorial screenshots where it simply uploads straight to ImageShackImageShack QuickLoad v1.0.36 is quite usefull too, right click image on your pc > Upload to ImageShack.Ima try out PicTiger see what its like. Is hotlinking allowed?

I use pictiger images hotlinking in most of the forums I use. I use Imageshack hotlinking in other forums. So, my sigs don't disappear simultenously on all my forums.
