Looking For A Free Web Host... with certain requirements.

Recommended Posts

Alright, so I looked through the forums and didn't quite find any topics on the subject dealing specifically with what I'm looking for. If I'm wrong, please feel free to point me to the proper threads. I needed to make a website for a friend the other day. I spent 2 full days trying one free host after another. He wouldn't be able to keep up with posting on a forum to keep the site active, and so far the very best free hosts i've found including Xisto require this. So... what I'm looking for:Free web hosting and subdomainMinimum 25 MB spaceNo file size limit (or 3MB limit)FTP accessNo banners. Either no ads or only pop-upNo forbidden file extensions (or at least these extra ones allowed: pdf, zip, rar, eot, wmv, mp3)Minimum 1 GB bandwidthCpanelNo other special features required. Site is only basic html.

Here's the take on those sites:

Nexus: adbanner at top

Web1000:

While the Company currently does not utilize a portion of Your Web Site Space, should the Company decide, in its business judgment, that retention of a portion of such space is desirable, company may utilize such portion as set forth in these terms.  Specifically and without limitation, the license of rights granted herein pursuant to Paragraph 1 is expressly conditioned upon and subject to COMPANY's retention at all times of the unhindered right to control the initial and ending (i.e. top-most and bottom-most) vertical pixels and all corresponding horizontal pixels on each individual page display (Web Page) or frame, or the leftmost pixels on each web page or frame together with all corresponding vertical pixels ("COMPANY's Retained Space"). COMPANY may (but is not required to) utilize COMPANY's Retained Space by electing to utilize html frame sets so as to segregate such space. Such HTML frame sets may result in utilization of additional pixels, which utilization shall be permissible pursuant to this agreement. COMPANY may also, whether in addition to or in the place of its Retained Space, cause the opening of additional Web Page windows displaying advertising or other content, and/or cause full page or partial full page advertising to be displayed, or/or imbed advertising links or other elements within your web pages.

PO.GS: Forbidden files extensions:
mp3,rar,zip,wmv,wma,avi,torrent,exe,mpeg,mpg.

propercomfy: YES! A WINNER! (if you get accepted)

Thanks!

Here are your requirements;

Free web hosting and subdomain | would be http://dhost.info/(plus subdomain)

Minimum 25 MB space | 100MB

No file size limit (or 3MB limit) | No filesize but limited to 10,000 files

FTP access | YES

No banners. Either no ads or only pop-up | None at all (unless you put them there yourself).

No forbidden file extensions (or at least these extra ones allowed: pdf, zip, rar, eot, wmv, mp3) | None mentioned

Minimum 1 GB bandwidth | Check the site

Cpanel | No cPanel just phpMyAdmin with one MySQL database

No other special features required. Site is only basic html.

I have been using this host since 2001 with just a few times there were problems with the database and once when they renamed the MySQL server from localhost to mysql and they sent me an e-mail to let me know so I could change the config.php for my CMS. No posting or anything, and if I am not right you can have more than one account. If I dies today the site would probably keep on going, at least it has since 2001 it is called Deluxe Host and here is a link Deluxe Host Home Page

It's going to be able to find a free host that does all that. Most, even the ones posted like 100webhost have banners and ads. Xisto doesn't, but it doesnt support .mp3's and a few other extensions.
One that hasn't been mentioned is:
https://byet.host/
But it doesn't seem to be that great. Good luck with your search.

Well... I still think he should go with Xisto. Because he doesn't need to be as active as he think he is... I think. One of the guys in Xisto posted an article saying that if you can't keep up with the posts, or if ur temporarily going to be not posting, then they tell you to put one of their ads on your webpage (homepage). But if he can't post at all then a good web host is 100webspace.net . It's my previous web host and it's really good. It's got 100mb webspace, PHP-enabled, FTP/Web, good bandwith, EMail accounts, and a lot more. The only thing that made me stop is because of the annoying little banner at the top. So when I found Xisto and it says that there are no ads, I immediately transfered to this. I've only been in Xisto for a week so I still gotta get some points for my website.

Yes, but...

In other news:

But if he can't post at all then a good web host is 100webspace.net

No no and no. They might seem good, but the banner at the top is extremly annoying and usually doesn't fit into your website's theme. Also, they had some problems while I was hosted there, which is one of the reasons I came here :)

P.S. Proud to announce that this is my 100th post :P

I don't know what ones are good, since I'm obv using Xisto primarily right now. I do know, however, that I've tried and couldn't stand http://www.freewebspace.net/, geocities, and angelfire. Either they were unreliable, the ads were out of control, poor servers, or whatnot. They may have changed, but I'd be wary of them. but then again, getting something great for absolutely free is rare :)
