Creative Revises Tech History

Recommended Posts

Podcasts, short for Personal On Demand broadCast, are audio files you can download into any MP3 player or computer. These audio files are broadcasted over the Internet automatically to subscribers of specific podcast channels. Video blogs are similar to podcasts, and refer to video files instead of audio files.

Just another example, to me, of Creative's absolute futility in a market that has left them behind. Minus the diehards of Nerd-ia, there just isn't a demand for anything in the personal entertainment market without an i in the name. There's no way that they can take on the ten-ton gorilla that is Apple's marketing department with products simply "as good" as an iPod. The only people buying into the alternatives are people that will talk until their face turns blue about open source software to a room filled with Microsoft execs. They feel that they are superior to everyone else simply because they know more and flaunt it. Needless to say, iPods have the key tools in winning--name recognition and consumer apathy. Why would anyone want to buy a product that plays "better" formats like OggVorbis when they don't know what the hell an MP3 is? The only solution they have is to wait for Apple to eventually make a mistake in their business model to signal a change. Apple's laid the groundwork in this sector of tech for growth, but they just aren't done yet.
