How To Create Shared-by-all "favourites" In Ie ?

I am running Windows 2000, but my question probably applies to all of the NT-derived versions of Windows.I am the only user of my machine, but I normally use two accounts for reasons of security, an Administrator account and a User account. I want to set things up so that when I save a "Favorite" in Internet Explorer, it gets saved into the Favorites folder of All Users, so that I can see it from either account.How can I do this?

Cassandra, the point of the account system so that only administrators can see and do everything. If you want both favourite to be seen, try saving it to the regular account's favourite.xboxrulz

I'm looking at XP, which is NT based, so I'm not sure if this applies or not, but in the C:\Documents and Settings folder is a folder called all users. Anything in that folder is shared between all the users. To change where IE stores favorites, click tools -> internet options. Under temporary internet files click settings. Then click move folder, move the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users and make a folder to hold the favorites, then select that folder and save. This should make favorites shared between all users.~Viz

Unless I'm very much mistaken, that will move the cache, not the active Favorites folder.

Nope.As far as I can tell, since there are only two users that interest me, the easiest way to do it was to log on as each user, drill down the registry to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders, and change the value to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Cookies", and then move all of the old files by hand (since changing the registry entry would only change the way Internet Explorer stores its favorites from now on. The separate corresponding registry key for the cache, by the way, is "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Cache", but I keep my cache on a separate disk anyway.If there were 100 users, I suppose that I could set up a Group Policy for all of this, but I don't remember how to do it anyway.

You could definitely do it the Registry way (the way I'd probably do it myself, cause I love messing with the registry, to see what winfdows anti-spyware picks up, but anyway) but I thought (obviously mistakenly) that moving the internet files folder also relocated the favorites to the same or a parent directory\favorites of the folder you switched to, sorry.~Viz

No harm done. I think that I've got everything set up the way I want it now. I also moved my Internet Explorer cookies. (Similar procedure: Yet another registry key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders , and then moving the old cookies manually.)

It turns out though that certain high technology and high security sites, though, really do demand that certain software be in a certain position relative to the cookie folder. After moving everything, I had to reinstall the MSN Investor Portfolio gadget, though it only took a few seconds, since the installation files were on my machine, and I had to log in manually again to my bank (once, I assume).

First, be logged in to your everyday-use account(profile)

 

To Change the Location of your favorites:

 

Click Start/Run Type in regedit

 

In the registry editor navigate to HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders.

 

In the right pane, right click Favorites/Modify/ Change path to the Favorites folder of your Administrator (Possibly C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites).

 

 

To verify: On the Favorites menu, click Organize Favorites.

 

An easier method would be to use TweakUI (in your case v1.33 for 98 / ME and 2000 ) available here

 

Anyway, that should allow you to get your favourites in order.

Descriptive Title for Opinion/FeedbackHow To Create Shared-by-all "favourites" In Ie ?As knowing where to find disclosure for which Windows one is running, I'm sure a lot of users find installing things like TweakUI (Windows specific), but I doubt I'm the only one who can't seem to locate what should be readily disclosed details about the OS.Obviously Windows systems vary, but given many users lack a lot of interest in getting geeked up and instead, more the simple user, and as such I really don't know which system(s) I'm running, moreover in that some programs, especially MS patches, etc., make it very much needed for the user to first know details of the particular installed Windows system and Windows server.As for where these things are detailed on given Windows systems (XPH/XPP/Vista), I think I've looked in obvious places, device manager, C' Properties, BelArc, etc., but I don't seem to find what Windows server I'm running (if I am?), or where to find even which Windows I'm running (eg; Windows NT, WIndows server 2000, etc.).I'm now running three pc's, Vista Ho Prem, XPH/SP4 & XPH/SP2 (all x86), I'd sure like to pin down where on the pc's that one finds disclosure on which Windows system and which Windows server the system is running/has installed on it.-reply by Author Name - e.G.
