Strange Oracle Behavior Oracle problem

Recommended Posts

Hi !I have a strange error with Oracle 10g R2.I run it on a Solaris 10 computer (Ultra 60 450MHz 1024 MB RAM).When I start all the services as usual as the user oracle I do like this:Database startup:sqlplus /nologSQL> connect / as sysdbaSQL> startupSQL> exitListener startup:lsnrctl startiSQL*Plus startup:isqlplusctl startThen there is a strange behavior of the iSQL*Plus service, when I close the shellwindow that is started the services from the iSQL*Plus servers shutdown. I assumeit does since I can no longer reach it. But the other serices continue to run as usual.I should mention that when I first installed oracle everyting was started up as a partof the installtion, but after some use the iSQL*Plus service got disabled so I reinstalledthe whole pakage. But when I booted the system before the reinstalltionI got some IP port error message at boot the first time, next time there was no error message.Could it be that there is another service running at the same port and there is some kindof conflict. Please let me know if anyone have had the same problem.A also wonder if there is a solaris command to see which services are running at which ports./Alex

I tried Oracle 10.2 on AIX, and I had no problem.Have a look at the $ORACLE_HOME/something directory, where the isqlctl settings are, the port is written explicitly. Then have a look at /etc/services, to see if the port is in use. Also try netstat, you should see this port busy or listening.RegardsYordan

I asked my mother since she's a really Oracle guru. She says that it hasn't anything with oracle so maybe you should try it on something else instead of Solaris :D maybe?

About your last question: she doesn't know on Solaris but on Unix this should do it:

ps -ef

hope this helps,

I'd have sailed through all Oracle Cetifications blindfolded.

Unfortunately, isqlplus services crashing is not an Oracle. It's a Sun-Os problem, I don't have it with my AIX installations. Moreover, it's probably a problem with an application on the sun system, using the same service port as the oracle isqpluplus service. So, even an Oracle certified guy would be of no help here, you need a Sun-os debugger guy.

Hehe, thanks M^e, I'll tell her :D Anywayz, you didn't met the rest of my family yet then. My dad for example is a IBM mainframe engineer, I've got an uncle who's a official(!) Microsoft engineer and a MySQL pro and my cousin is a high-rated webdesigner. Just to mention a few. Yeah, we've got quite some knowledge in here :D
