Css Vs Xslt Vs Smarty Vs Other : What To Use ? what to use in a website

Recommended Posts

Well I am not trying to compare them all. I am asking which one to use in making a personal, extendible and nice looking website. Its a simple problem of keeping design away from content. I am trying to make a personal website which would eventually showcase all of these technologies (and more) but I was looking for one to stick with as the main design. If you have done a large project with these technologies I would certainly like to hear from you.

Well, I don't have a large project, but a little one: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
Some XML-Newsfeeds are thrown against XSLT-Stylesheets by PHP for making an HTML output. The advantage of XSLT compared to CSS is that you can create Hyperlinks out of the XML-content, I think you can't do this with CSS. But what is Smarty??? I guess I don't even have an idea what it is ...?

well, I have one project, it's not really special, but I made it for my exam in XML. It uses XSLT technology with CSS is XSLT documents... all the data is in XML and that XML document is parsed through XSLT style sheet document... simple and effective... look at it HERE...

I use CSS, purely because I have never tried any others. I like CSS that is a seperate document because you can link many pages to it without having to put the same CSS in the header of every page. It can also be used in conjunction with PHP, which I tend to use on my sites.
