Rss Feeds how do i use them?

Recommended Posts

a lot of sites are now adding this new feature rss... How can i use this new feature???? some say that this allows someone to keep up to date with all the new posts (blogs, info) posted on a website.

Does anyone have an example of how the thing works?

Hi,

here's an RDF-feed from distrowatch: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ . This is what the raw data looks like. No matter if the file is called 'feed.rdf' or 'feed.xml', all these feeds are xml-files. RDF is ONE kind of XML. See HERE.

You need a reader-software or a website using stylesheets to get an HTML-output out of the newsfeed. That means you can install a news-reader-program to read the feeds OR you can write your own stylesheet and "throw" it against the newsfeed-file.

you could also either download Yahoo! Toolbar for IE or FireFox and whenever you go to a site with an RSS Feed a button will show up on the toolbar which will allow you to add the RSS Feed to your My Yahoo! page. Another option is to download FireFox and when ever you are at a site with an RSS Feed a logo will appear in the lower right hand corner which you can click on it to save the RSS Feed like a bookmark but instead it will have all of the RSS links which will change and update every time the site adds new posts or links or whatever... I hope that helps...

Just use the live bookmark button like dragon said. It'll integrate the rss feed into your other bookmarks. It's one of the best features that firefox has.

Being not too "Techie" here, I had another question about this "RSS FEED" thangy....Is this possibly a pre-cursor to automatically having these feeds sent to people's Cell phones???Or... is that technology something else entirely, and that is already out there???

You can read RSS feeds with cell phones. Well, with smart phones that have suitable software.
