Windowblinds Skins for windows

Does anyone else use this program?http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ found some awesome skins that really spiced up my desktop!Now theres more then just the blue, silver and olive green themes

I don't use WindowsBlinds, I actually just use a modified uxtheme.dll.

This allows me to import other visual styles besides the default Blue Silver and Olive! It is much easier, I think, to have all the graphics (except the wallpaper) contained in a single .msstyles file. The setup can be a little complicated, but once it is set up, it is really easy to find something that you like. The biggest resource that I have com across is http://www.ezthemes.com/belchfire.php.

My favorite visual style is ChaNinja, I have my whole Windows look customized now. It is very sweet It would seem that their website is down. That is bad because that was pretty much the one stop shop to fully customize your Windows look.

I also like most of the themes by LightStar. They are very easy to setup because they come with their own installer. (Bundled in an .exe)

I would suggest trying this technique out for it doesnt use any type of external program to load the themes. Just go to your Control Panel -> Display -> Appearance Tab, and change it over to whatever theme you have downloaded. http://www.ezthemes.com/belchfire.php has all the information you will need to get started. Everything from getting or patching the uxtheme.dll file to downloading and installing themes!

I hope this helps you out in any way, but if it all seems a little overwhelming, then WindowsBlinds is fine to! It has a lot of support from it's community.

Yeah. I used that program too and it is cool. It makes you change the way your XP feels and looks. I think you should try using the IconPackager too.. it changes your icons. And of course try not to forget the bootskin which will change the windows loading when you boot start your os. Also there are software that changes the logon graphics when you login to XP. I use the entire Object Desktop Series by Stardock and it is by far the better of the 2 methods stated in this post in terms of ease and features. With Object desktop not just windowblinds u get a program manager which allows u to download 1 file whic completely reconfigures the look style and feel of your operating system. from booting to transperancy to the way u open a file (no kidding have u seen photoshop where you can put effects to pictures like bring half the pick from the left and the bottom half from the right and they join in the middle) with Win Fx u can do that to ur My Computer and many more styles to any folder u like. So i suggest if u are thinking of trying windowblinds to go the whole hog and get Object Desktop

Windows Blinds/Object Desktop are too much of a resource hog for me (at least they were last time I checked them out). I prefer to have things running at peak efficiency then looking shiney... but then again maybe I'm just spoiled from having pimped out linux themes running without affecting performance lol.but yea if you are going for straight out cool looks I would agree that blinds are a good choice

I have windowblinds and desktop x. I love the whole object desktop family. I got some abstract theme going on right now. I would recommend it to anyone

Oh please for the love of god don’t get windowsblinds. Its horrible, I tried some of their products and here is the breakdown:1. Boot Screen – Idea: customize your boot screen so you don’t get the same boring boot screen every time. Cool right? Breakdown: So I download it – get a few screens that looked good (they were all in 256 color… how ghetto is that? In fact it might not even be 256.. it might have been 32 and not bit mind you but the really bad ones. I think hey no worries, change is good right? WRONG it crushed the computer causing me hours to locate and fix the problem… turns out its usually buggy on XPs… and its designed for XPs…. mmmm2. WinLogOn – Change the winlogon screen, cool! Breakdown: Never worked – it said itself the thing is buggy and probably never works.3. To the extremes – I got MouseSuite, hey cool points… god why do they all have to make so much noise? Get a basic one that actually shuts up then I start noticing pop-ups.. turns out all their software are buddle with spyware and adware… god don’t use their products, its horrible….

Yeah not a big fan of winblinds. I use RocketDivision's StarSkin

windowblinds is just a pain. like many people have said it's a resource hog. i just don't think a drag in my performance is worth making things all cutesy. but i haven't had any problems with bootskin and winlogon yet at all. hte reason that bootscreens ahve lower res is because on win 2000 they have to. it's the way windows is built. it should work fine on xp, mine has the same quality as the orginal boot screen. and i haven't had a single problem with my customized homestarrunner logon! but that's just my 2 cents.

You can download from thousands of templates etc

What it does is changes the entire windows shell system to a new and improved system, which lets you pause copying files and skip read errors etc which is really handing when trying to copy from scratched CD's etc. I recomend this program oppossed to windowsblinds

I also use the entire series and although it is a resource hog my PC can handle it fine. I have also never encounred a single ishue with any features not working since I started using the origanal version that I got on a free disk included with a pc magazine.Ive tried nearly all official and unofficial xp skinning methods and Windowblinds is by far the best.

Yep windowblinds is a good program, especially the latest version that I think is $19 or something.

I've been using it for a while. However most of my downloaded skins result in jogging windows when on the internet. its really annoying, and its a struggle to concentrate sometimes.

Yes there have been a few problems with the use of the wondowblinds series ( i have never experienced any tho) and i only recoomend this because as in my first post its the safest and like most programs not fail safe but better than editing system files themselves cos if those dont work then you are in the can unless you do lots of back ups and hassles. Yes as i see with most of the negative comments here mostly contain the resource hog line - well most standard computers bought today can run windowblinds with minimal tweaking if any at all and yes by turning of a few features it can run fine with no lag (edskii). Windows Xp itself is a resource hog so if you have one foot in the grave get a computer that handles well and jump in.

I'm more a fan of the modded xpstyle subsystem myself. It uses 0 extra resources and is free. Object Desktop was great back in the OS/2 era, but I've never liked the windows versions.

I got WindowBlinds I use the Longhorn slate skin. I once unloaded windowblinds because it was lagging my computer a bit because I was doing like 15 things at once and I don't know how to load it again... Usage can be a little bit complicated but it's okay once you get used to it. You can download a free trial version at their website and there's a sh areware version with more features if you've bought something from their company online before .
