Military Assembled World's Most Formidable Hackers

Recommended Posts

hey...i am sorry about that last topic i posted... hopefully this one is in the right place...

The U.S. military has assembled the world's most formidable hacker posse: a super-secret, multimillion-dollar weapons program that may be ready to launch bloodless cyberwar against enemy networks -- from electric grids to telephone nets.
The group's existence was revealed during a U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee hearing last month. Military leaders from U.S. Strategic Command, or Stratcom, disclosed the existence of a unit called the Joint Functional Component Command for Network Warfare, or JFCCNW.

In simple terms and sans any military jargon, the unit could best be described as the world's most formidable hacker posse. Ever.

idk guys...what do you think of that ?

i think it sounds kinda like a movie...all these bad hackers getting offered a second chance, records wiped clean if they do this job for the government... wait a tic...i believe it is a movie :)

and wasn't Angelina Jolie the star !

One expert on cyber warfare said considering the unit is a "joint command," it is most likely made up of personnel from the CIA, National Security Agency, FBI, the four military branches, a smattering of civilians and even military representatives from allied nations.

too bad it looks like it is all government guys already...
idk...its kinda hard for me to take this seriously...i dont really think that our government needs a branch like that...i just cant see what good will come out of it...just more money out of tax payers pockets...

I just got recruited by them, I gotta say, they got quite some Ubeer (gaming)rigs here .Neh..Just kidding. But seriously, I don't think that we should rely on comps so much anyways. And I thought hacking stuff was illegal, I guess when it's about national security everything is allowed. I surely hope that the Afghan Uber Leet Hackers Organization will get them :). And about the taxes, you're totally rightJFCCNW, cool word.

My first reaction is that it's about time. After that, I get doubts. How are they going to control these hackers? The government's going to have to constantly keep them happy and satisfy them, otherwise they could do some serious damage. Not to mention that someone could infiltrate the unit and do plenty of damage before being found out. I mean, what are they going to be using hackers for? Investigations? That'd be a giant violation of privacy. Other countries? Again, that'd be overtly hostile, and we don't need that right now. I don't think it's going to be overly helpful, but we do need to prepare for the future, and that future includes hackers as one of the most damaging weapons in any country's arsenal. Because, you know, computers are going to take over a lot of the roles that humans play very soon.

Blimey.

Does anyone know if the UK's High-Tech crime unit has plans to adopt a similar appoach?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That sounds like a good idea, but I agree, they will have to keep the hackers happy which could be a challenge...

If anyone has ever played Splinter Cell (the first one) this is just like what the Gerogian military did... Sorta...

Sounds like a movie.... Yes indeed....

This kind of thing just gives me the creeps, but I guess it's no different then any other branch of the gov't like the CIA or that kind of thing, seeing as that type of branch has a crazy amount of spy equipment and satalites and things =P

This is really really bad.US is under-estimating other countries. When it was with nukes... It was ok. Since, nukes are expensive and other countries will not afford to produce them.. So it could easily enjoy an upper hand. But this information will really affect it. Because, producing hackers/crackers is not expensive.US's own population itself is hardly anything. Then countries like China, India, Korea, Russia etc. have a large population. Who themselves have many hacker groups. Things like this will provogate the cold blooded hackers in remote parts of the world to unite and fight against this. This is only provogating things and making them worse. I don't think US wants to do this. Because once they come to know about it, they will take it like a war. I hope I m making my point clear.

I think that if such a group of hackers did exist, then it would be top secret. And it doesn't matter whether or not all of the best hackers are under the "gov'n' control". If they want to do something, then they will do it.I think that it is a fluke. However, the government probably already have a team of hackers.--mik
