Exeem 0.24 Public Beta

Recommended Posts

eXeem is a brand new Peer-To-Peer program, which is based on the BitTorrent idea. eXeem eliminates the need for trackers as nodes in the program will be taking their role.It also features easy publication of files to the network as well as a rating and comments system.

eXeem contains NO SPYWARE. It is free and is ad-supported.

Changelog:

* fixed of-by-one month in publication date in rss
* long search strings don't mess up the search-tabs
* more reliable event logging
* parts of protocol moved to udp for better performance
* experimental upnp support
* various small fixes

Hmmn...I've a phobia of P2P software in the past because of the many spyware and adware problems, like Kazaa. When you say it is ad-supported, what do you mean? Does it display intrusive adverts like pop-ups and whatnots?

I think that this one did or at least an earlier version had spyware with it. Then they came out with a lite version without any spyware. I tried using it but couldn't get anything to download for me at all. I tried doing this bug fix from their forums but still i got nothing. I will probably wait until it gets to 1.0 version or something before I try it again.

The earlier version does have spyware even in its beta development stage and this caused some controversy and it started losing popularity so the developers came up with a new version that gives you the option whether to install the bundled software or not and it is checked by default. Otherwise, I see no cons except the lack of files since this program is rather new. The ads are somewhat the similiar to that of Warez P2P but I find Exeem nicer.

Yeah I totally agree. I downloaded this as soon as I heard about it (a while ago now :rolleyes:) and loved the look and feel of it... but I really haven't had much of an opportunity to use it much because of the lack of files it offers. I guess it will take some time to grow though, and I hope that when it is finally out of BETA and popular it will be a good alternative to BitTorrent. Having said that though, I don't feel that any P2P system will ever be as good as the BitTorrent community... the only draw back nowadays with BitTorrent is knowing where to get the torrent files from.

Site's I'm using these days for torrents are;

torrentspy.com

demonoid.com (yes, it's back up and running)

I just tried Bit Comet and so far it is proving to be worthy of my usage. It is fast and simple to use, nothing confusing about it really. Search for an item with the links provided and then just open it and it starts downloading. I am really enjoying Bit Comet I hope it is better with the speeds though because I want my files fast like everyone else! lol :rolleyes:

While I'm not that familiar with the spyware controversy surrounding eXeem, I do know that a lite version has been developed. According to the eXeem lite webpage, eXeem contains Cydoor, a program that is not fun, to say the least. Regardless of whether the official copy of eXeem has Cydoor or other spyware built in, I would rather have a slightly modified version of their program. In this way, if there is a backdoor to their program, it will be harder for them to work through my modified program.

In any case, here are the links I've talked about above:

eXeem

eXeem Lite

About Cydoor

Since everyone else is chiming in with their choice of peer-to-peer application, I have to ask why nobody here uses BitTorrent. Though searching for a tracker that lists the file you're after may be a pain, BitTorrent is generally still very fast on a properly-configured system. Also, most of the good torrents are on a few select trackers anyways, and almost each niche has its own major tracker. I generally use TorrentSpy and TorrentReactor.

I couldn't agree more with you X-Wes. Although I did in fact download the official copy of eXeem, I haven't had any problems what so ever with spyware/adware. Nonetheless, I will be switching over to the Lite version now that I know about it because I'd prefer to avoid any concerns of spyware on my machine. Thanks for the link by the way.
And about BitTorrent, I have the same exact views as you. I think the problem is that most people are just too lazy to actually give BT a fair go, and actually see its advantages over ordinary P2P programs such as Kazaa. That's sort of the way I felt with it in the beginning, till one day when I got bored and decided to play around with it a bit, learn what it was really about, and I've never used any other P2P program since. Except for when I gave eXeem a shot. A lot of people also complain about slow download speeds, but as you mentioned it can be very fast with the right configurations.
The torrent sites I use nowadys are http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ , https://www.demonoid.pw/ and http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/? (the new suprnova.org). I can usually find what I'm after from those sites.
