Windows Xp?

I find Windows XP absolutely appauling. There are so many bugs, security flaws and useless patches that slow down your computer it makes me sick. Windows 2000 was way better....Not to mention, its not compatible with the older windows. You can't play the classic windows 98/2000 games. Amd the "command prompt" is a peace of garbage...

Before doing so, I backed up everything on Windows 98, including the classic games. Well, when I got Windows XP up and running, I tested all the games that I packed from 98, and everything worked fine!

I meant CD-ROM games created for windows 98/2000. Some do work, but they screw up your computer.

YEah you can get programs to run in computability with older versions of windows be going to its properties - compatibility. it works for me anyway

yeah you are right man, windowsXP is just full of errors and bugs and microsoft shud spend more time in managing windows XP instead of moving to new technologies, but one thing, user respnse and user interactivity of windows activity is best.....so need a time to manage what they did.....windows 2000 is best, now doubt about that

I personally quite like Win XP. I agree it can be a pain when trying to run older DOS based games since XP doesn't have true DOS anymore, but there are ways around it. Setting the compatability doesn't work 99% of the time, but if you still have the install disks for an older version of Windows, why not set up dual boot?The features in XP definately outperform any previous version of Windows, and the fact that Microsoft only keep patches coming out for the later systems, I think it's important to keep up to date. There are huge amounts of improvement required, especially when it comes to security. But let's face it, if you want absolute security ... use Linux or buy a Mac.I hate Microsoft too ... but at the end of the day, nothing comes close to competing.

You're right. Windows in general is, by far, the most user friendly Operating System ever because of its not-so-steep learning curve. As far as Windows XP is concerned, I have never had a Blue Screen of Death...even on my 300 MHz computer And you can't deny that you don't like its schemes. Windows XP has the "oomph" that most OS's don't, and if you don't like it, you can always change it, and if you don't like those, there are always programs so you can make your own.

WinXP does have those problems, some people don't get it.Now with classic games, it's still possible to get them working, so far I haven't came across a game I couldn't get working with it, however none of these methods uses XP's compatibility, in which case it's there as a pointless feature, in fact I've tried figuring out what it does, but it's completely useless. What I believe it does, is it detects old called APIs and just makes the call point to the new API, however, XP had this builtin to it natively, which renders this compatibility reassurance just another pointless hyped feature. Maybe it forces it, but if you try it on programs that rely on Win98 and higher OS only and change it to make it win95 compatible, it does nothing, even the programs don't detect the compatibility, because they would definitely complain if they knew they were running on Win95 if this were the case.Some of the older games had software protection that limited it's ability on the newer OS's, best chances of getting it working is making sure you run the CD from your first CDROM drive if you have multiple, it must be the first drive. It could also involve a few registry hacks, and as a last resort, emulated which I haven't had to do so far.MC

Well i just love Windows XP there's nuthin really wrong with it other than the updates other than that it's colourful and it just looks cool if you want you can use the classic type of windows xp also.

what i found annoying in XP are those yellow boxes (like your computer is at risk new , updates are ready bla bla )appearing at start up, Other wise its ok
