Gmail Growing Larger every second counts

Recommended Posts

As we speak, the capacity of every gmail account is growing steadily.

Because gmail has decided to increase the storage room of all accounts

I quote (i may quote, can't I?)

A Google approach to math.

On the eve of Gmail's one-year birthday, our engineers were toiling away furiously. Notes scribbled all over the walls. Complex calculations on napkins and empty pizza boxes. Millions of M&Ms.

The result?... starting today, we're beginning the roll-out of our new and top secret Infinity+1 storage plan. The key features are:

    * Write, don't worry.

You want to stop caring about storage. We want to keep giving you more. Today, and beyond.

    * The gift that keeps on giving.

1260.223112 megabytes of storage (and counting) for every user.

    * No complicated equations. No tough algorithms.

      Just this one graph:

Cool isn't it?

Maybe they should give you a friend each time you sign up to help you fill up the space. Last year I had a hotmail account and couldn't keep no more than two emails basically. Next I got a 1gb email which I haven't been even close to filling up, now I am getting a thereotical infinity account? Google could do hosting with all the space. GHost...no wait that spells a word. Well anyway, they are slowly taking over the internet don't you think. Advert Schemes, Email and of course the search engine...all for free. All they need to do is release an instant messenger, hosting account and an internet browser and we've got a new Microsoft. Well hopefully not as bad as Microsoft as at least Google listens to its customers to some extent.

What do you mean by that?

Maybe they should give you a friend

About hosting, could be a good idea. If you could split a part of your storage to some kind of web-server or something.

Just me being sarcastic. Hardly any of my friends would email me, they'd phone me for a chat, text me to tell me something or call down to do something. The only person I email is my uncle in Australia because it is cheaper and easier than phoning. But we dont have that much to talk about. So all I find so much space for is emailing files to my mates or putting important files into emails and sending them to myself to store the files. But if they gave you a free friend... Id have someone to email! I can imagine the advertising campaign. "Sign up now and recieve unlimited space for email and, for a limited time only, you can get your own friend. He likes rock music, strawberry ice cream, and midnight strolls on the beach!"

Just checked the "new features!" thingy in my inbox,It says "2GB" expansion, and i checked my account, it says i have "1332" MB. Those ******* havent given me enough!!! :P EDIT: A check 5 minutes later reveals that i have "1337" MB. Not only is this a whole hotmail account (old-styleee) improvement, i now have a nice 1337 account!!!

Would someone care to give me a few reasons why Gmail is better than Something like Yahoo, or hotmail? I've never had a Gmail, but keep hearing a lot about it. So, yea, if anyone wants to tell me why I should get it, i'm listening. What is so special about it?

More space, pages load faster, send huge files, can be used as a drive and its google, why wouldnt you want it.

Are talking about an email account or a new computer??????????? :P

There is absolutely no reason to abandon your current email service, email = email... Nothing special.

But some people like to have enough storage for their stuff, or just like to try something new.

All email services are somewhat equal, one way or another only that their features that they offer are slightly better than one anothers like for instance, GMail, which is based on Javascript which loads rather fast, the first free email service provider for 1GB email storage, the use of third party tools to use GMail in a better way, and so on but if Google were to come up with some instant messenger, I'll make sure everyone on my MSN Contact List recieves an invite and Yahoo!, which will be expanding its email storage to GMail's current 1GB inbox, the features that they are offering when you sign up for their free email service is also alot, with Yahoo! LAUNCH, Geocities, Briefcase and much more. Both free email providers have their pros and cons but they are basically email after all.

yeah i just read this on another forum! i couldnt believe it and i checked my email accound on gmail and it just went up. right now its at "1387mb" it says!

G is for growthStorage is an important part of email, but that doesn't mean you should have to worry about it. To celebrate our one-year birthday, we're giving everyone one more gigabyte. But why stop the party there? Our plan is to continue growing your storage beyond 2GBs by giving you more space as we are able. We know that email will only become more important in people's lives, and we want Gmail to keep up with our users and their needs. From Gmail, you can expect more.

found this on its website! its going to be more than 2 gigabytes of storage! i dont know why im so excited because i dont even need 2gigabytes or even 1gigabyte of email storage. i may struggle with 1mb but maybe about 10mb is my limit. i think..

I was wondering how to use the "invite feature", but I guess they're not distributing invites now. I read that somewhere. I've only had gmail a few months and never had any invites. The space that's it's obtaining is cool though. I also have an account at http://www.walla.co.il/. Maybe I should just forward all my mail to gmail or something. Mine's also at 13xx GB
