.eu As A Domainname-extension

After a decade, the European Union will finally get it's so-wanted .eu extension (for example http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/). ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is the organisation that gives out internet extensions to the web (such as .com, .nl, .org, etc.). And this year they finally decided that they are gonnan create a new one: .eu .Halfway in the nineteens, the european union asked permission to use .eu, but it took a long time until they offered an official application to ICANN in 2000. In 2002 the first contracts were signed. By then, a lot of people were interested in a .eu address, and really wanted one.2005 is the new delivery date of the extension (october, to be precise), but as it looks now, they won't make that either.The company that's going to handle these new .eu addresses is EURid. EURid is a fusion of three internetbroker companies. If you really want a .eu extension, you'll have to wait. They won't be made public until 2006 (at least, that's what they expect ).

Interesting information, but I think that .en is domain name extension just like any other, and as long as I live in EU, I cannot say anything else than... (If someone is "pro" should stop reading) http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ if equal to http://www.anything.i.support.software.pattents.com/ and you can have domain name like that for a long time... (sorry to those that don't agree with me, but I said you should stop reading... and I'm also sorry to them...). Now you could get a free sub domain serch on google and you will find it with the extension of your country.eu

I think it's ok for EuropeanU. to get their domain name extension. If every country has one, then why joined countries should be left without one? If TV channels can have their .tv domain extensions, why EU should not?
