How Do I Translate A Something.com To An Ip?

Ok, i'm trying to find a way to translate, for e.g. rapco.astahost.com to an ip direction. How can i do it????

Some one told me about http://www.dnsstuff.com/ but i haven't been able to do it!!!!

The actual url that i'm trying to convert to ip is:

Go to start > Run... , type cmd, click ok. Then type "ping http://ww2.subterraneos.net/rg-erdr.php?_rpo=t; (no quotes). There should be something like "Ping statistics for 66.235.211.74:" come up.

But the http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ is the vdeck, like de cpanel entrance

I want to able to enter http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

There's a tool called nslookup which can help you to do that.Start\run\nslookupIn the program, type the url then you'll get the server's IPMoreover, you also can have the IP of the mailserver, do it by type "set type=mx"OK

I think that http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ is the server's IP, but http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ is located on a subdirectory of the server. In order to access http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, you might have to go to somewhere like http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or something...

szupie is right. There's got to be a way to do it!!!!!!I did the nslookup and i came up with the adrees for the vdeck....i'm gessing is the domain company getting in the way... or something like that

You cannot get to your site directly like that by quoting the IP - unless you have your own hosting server with a dedicated IP which maps onto your domain https://xyz.xyz/ and vice-versa. When ONE server (like Xisto) handles multiple domains - all of those domains will refer/resolve the same IP but when you actually connect to the server using https://xyz.xyz/ - the server resolves your domain to the same ip BUT to a different port number that has been assigned/mapped onto your domain name. This happens behind the back and you've no way of knowing directly - the feel you get is that you connected to port 80 (http port) of your server. The concept is somwhat similar to that of setting up of Virtual Hosts in Apache. It's either redirected to a particular port OR as szupie stated - to some subdirectory/folder/subdomain under the main ip. Loading the page with the primary ip will always take you to your hosts web-page.

I needed that because i develop a web portal about latinamerican hip-hop, and a friend that's webmaster of another portal (also latinamerican) i hosting my site, so it's http://ww2.rapco.subterraneos.net/rg-erdr.php?_rpo=t and his url is http://ww2.subterraneos.net/rg-erdr.php?_rpo=t

and i don't want my visitors to get confused with the .subterraneos.net part... they may thing we merged or something...

Hehe... sorry if I sounded too technical & dry. I'll keep that in mind and try make is easier from next time :DI came back with an analogy that could help you understand it a little better. On shared servers, even if you have your own domain - compare it to your office telephone number with a epabx electronic exchange box behind it. Everyone calls up your office at the same number and then are redirected to the correct extension. When you call up the number - you don't get to your own office but to the main office receiving center (similar to reaching vDeck using the IP). You can be reached only by knowing the correct extension or in the case of web-sites by adding a port number/subdirectory after the IP. So there...

Yes yeah...Szupie is completly correct....It would be like finding the ip address to wasteofspace.astahost.com and then when you sue the ip address to go to my site you'll go to Xisto.com.Since http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ is just a subdomain you need to find out where the site is being redirected from. I'm sure you can find that by speaking to the webmaster of the website.Also you could probably probe the whole website and find out where exactly the folder for your friends website is located...You can do that using some type of website downloading program....Or some other indexing thing....I'm not exactly sure, but it seems simple enough.

Everyone seems to have answered this so I'll just say the correct location of this subterraneous.net is found off a vDeck.com server, which is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

There is no more to the IP address, other than it could contain many users sharing the same server and just redirects people who use the domains that are hosted on it, most likely redirected to those users' home/public_html directory.

My answer to that, well, I've been reading, researching and studying web servers that this is something you'll encounter, just like being hosted on Xisto, e.g. https://support.xisto.com/ can connect you to your subdomain or domain hosted here, well hopefully it does, unless of course it's a different server, we would replace it with the IP address in place of the server it's located on just by resolving it with nslookup.

Since the IP address took us directly to a vDeck server, I just assumed that people hosted on it, all are allocated a UserDir and that the username determines where their public_html documents are stored.

Most commonly the username is no longer than 8 characters but it could be longer, and it's most likely lowercase. The username could also be made from the domain, other than that, a dictionary/bruteforce method might be the only way to find the correct location, and not a method I would use.

So the answer is... guess work really, so no special tools apart from a brain.
