Windows: Themes? Login Screens? Boot? How do we change them???

Recommended Posts

I've seen many of my "pro" cousins always change their boot screens and login screen too. Of course I'm not a "pro" like they are. I know there's a risk to take when you try to change them but I just want to know how you do it and where can you get the code or something. Expecially the login screen and boot screen. I'm not sure about themes though. I really appreciate any help given. Thanks! I'm VERY bad in this kind of stuff. I only deal in digital imaging. So if I can know this stuff it will be a great help! :D

When I first got my computer, I was very much interested in customizing it. So I did a search of various keywords like "desktop themes", "skins", "how to change login screens", etc. Lots of wonderful entries came up. One of my most cherished downloads is the one that let me change my logon screen. Its called LogonStudio by Stardock. Its free and allowed me to use a nice, big photo of me and my 2 kids for my logon and logout screen. I'm real happy with it and have had no problems with it.

Hey I found two really good articles on how to do this hands on for Win2000 & XP. Find them at:

http://www.littlewhitedog.com/content-9.html

http://windowsitpro.com/systems-management/how-can-i-change-windows-xp-or-windows-2000-boot-screen

This is applicable if you don't want to do it the StarDock way and like working your way into it the hard way :D

The bootskin program is a little buggy in WinXP. It have something in it which is only for Win98/2000. My antivirus program said it was a virus, but it's only a bug. But anyway: I wouldn't use that if i was you :D

Try window blinds and logon loader. I used this softwares but I guess it eats a lot of memory and can render some of your programs to malfunction. For example I installed window blinds, I executed macromedia flash, then gues what, the slider moves very weird... it's uncontrollable. It is nice to put great designs on you pc but it is actually the function of the PC that is more important. Just try some on the net....

The best theme loader is WindowBlinds. You can download many different themes @ WinCustomize.com. You have to registrer for free. After you have registrered you can download different XP Themes, WinAmp skins, logon skins and much more.

I've got the complete stardock package: cursor xp, windows blinds, desktopx, bootskin...They add additional functionality to windows such as clicking the window bar and it shrinks up, and sending the window to a quick start icon by the clock... all with sw33t sound effects. Ooh... transparent windows w00t!For free, if you don't mind an add popping up for each one at startup as they load... a small price to pay for some friend-impressing eye candy!
