Cpanel: Hotlink Protection Question

Recommended Posts

When I enable Hotlink Protection in Xisto's cPanel for my website (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/), all of my images disappear. The "Urls to Allow Access:" box lists "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; and "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/;. I would think this would let me use my own images in my website. I disabled Hotlink Protection and my images have reappeared. How can I enable Hotlink Protection and still have my images displayed on my website?

how are you loading your images? relative or absolute paths? I don't reall think it matters that much. Hotlink works on my site so I have no idea what the problem would be but how you are accessing them.

This is how I have mine set:

link dead.

and it works. This is unchecked: "Allow direct requests (ie. entering the url to an image in your browser)" I'm using a subdirectory for all images called "images" (I have such an imagination" :) Nils

Here's an example of the img tags I use in my code:

<img style="border-width: thick; border-color: white; border-style: groove; " src="images/andystadiumbaz151x500gif.gif" width=500 height=141>

I also have unchecked the box labelled "Allow direct requests (ie. entering the url to an image in your browser)".

At the time of this post, I have hotlink protection disabled and I can see the picture. The problem is that when I enable hotlink protection, my own website won't show the images. And like I mentioned before, the "Urls to Allow Access:" box lists:

http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

I'm still stumped...

I don't quite understand...click "activate"? Where is that located? When I entered what link?EDIT: Oh, the activate button in cPanel's Hotlink Protection page...yes, I did click it enable Hotlink Protection. That caused all of the website images to disappear. I then went back to cPanel's Hotlink Protection page and clicked "Disable" which resulted in the return of the images to my website.

My cPanel Hotlink Protection settings are the same as yours, except of ourse I have my domain/subdomains listed in the "Urls to Allow Access" box.I just now enabled Hotlink Protection. Let's see if we can see the images now.

At first I thought the problem was solved because I could see the images. But then I noticed one image was missing. I refreshed the page and many more images disappeared. I refreshed it again and all of the images were gone. So I still have the same problem.
