Free File Sharing Programs.

Recommended Posts

I've found Ares to be a nice program and is increasing in size every day (number of people using). I've moved to it because sometimes in Kazaa i've found heaps of bogus files for recent songs, so i moved to Ares and so far there have been no bogus files (you know, the ones that have that weird sound in them), thats because there is a special tracker or something in it which will stop this files from appearing so you don't have to worry about it :P

aight, way back, like everyone, i used napster. then i got kazaa lite, the kazaa version without spyware. that was really fast back then. now, kazaa is full of junk and you won't find all that much on itnow i use soulseek for music. it's cool because you find rare stuff, and you can rightclick on a file and choose "download entire folder". if the other guy neatly stores his albums in seperate folders, you'll get the entire album, nicely stored in a new folder. i love itfor movies, i use bittorrent because it's really fast and you can find a lot of moviesfor really rare stuff, like old movies and especially for software, i use emule. you'll find just about everything on emuledirect connect is good too they say, but i don't use it. i'm too much a leecher for that :P i have a 1gigabyte upload limit, and dcc causes too much upload.

Kazaa lite is not bad, like marijnnn said, but it seems to not give away free downloads of the program anymore. I think you're going to have to get the whole file again from a friend or something. By the way anybody heard of imesh? It has alot of ads and i think it should be as bad as kazaa yet people say its good... Any ideas?

Well I use Kazaa Lite for some media, but the problem is that there are alot of virusses and fake files in the p2p network. It's also handy for music.I suggest you try bittorrent. Then you atleast know 100% ceratin that you are downloading the right file. Also download bitlord. It's a program which kind of works like kazaa but then with torrents. It also has a search option.Ofcourse you have to find the right torrents with enough peers and seeds. But recent files always have a fast download rate. :P

at the moment i mostly use overnet client on the edonkey network. yes there are also fake files, and viruses around on all p2p networks. thats why you should install a anti-virus software and a firewall on your computer system.i also have a plugin for overnet, which speed up the download and looks for more sources to download from. i havent tried bittorrent yet but i cannot find any good torrent sites around. most of them are very slow to download from. any recomment any?

DC++ is damn good, it works by giving you a list of servers you can download from but sometimes you have to have a certian amount of shared files before you can get on some servers (i know alot of other programs do this and it's annoying) but i've never failed to find what i want using it.

as for bittorrent most torrent sites are good, but you need to find the people people downloading and uploading the file to get the decnet speed, and the speeds at the start of the download are never very good but if you wait a while they'll speed up real fast.

For those of you living in the US:I was a heavy Ares and bittorrent user and from my experiences I wouldn't recommend either. Both are great for finding quality files but both will screw you up big time.Ares is loaded with spyware that is embedded DEEP in its system. I know when you install it there is a confirmation to install NAV Helper but that doens't mean anything. Ares has spyware in it and it's caused me to reformat my harddrive a few times.Bittorrent used to be good but now they've really begun to crack down on it and I acutally got caught. With bittorrent you have no choice but to upload and the MPAA or RIAA will have an easier time catching you when you use a system that requires you to upload. For me I just use limewire now. I can get music and some movies but I can't get TV shows like I used to with bittorrent. I'm going to try Soulseek though since many members here seem to like it.

I used Kazaa for a long time until I ran into heavy spyware and viruses. Than I heard my friend tell me about Limewire. I must say, Limewire is great. Limewire will warn you about "corrupt" files, and than prompt you to stop downloading them. There is an impressive collection of just about everything. I have always found what I was looking for.

If it wasn't for NAVhelper in Ares, it would be my god. So, i guess i'll settle with Limewire. Bittorrent is nice, but i can never find any links. All the goods one (supernove, lokitorrent) get shut down. So i guess P2P is the way to go.

Software Publisher's Description

Grouper is a new Windows-based application that allows users to share their personal media within private groups. Grouper uses P2P technology connecting you directly to your friends’ hard drives where you can share large files in a safe, encrypted environment. Grouper is a simple install and requires no firewall reconfiguration.

With Grouper, you can download your friends' personal files with no size limit (photos, video clips, and docs), browse thousands of files your friends have selected to share with you, stream music directly from your friends' PCs, instant message, and chat with your friends to connect about all the stuff you are sharing.

Download.com Review of Grouper

This free, nifty program lets you safely swap music, video clips, and images over your own private P2P network, but we must voice a few stability concerns. After the free registration process, you can invite friends to join your group and share files and folders from your hard drive with them. Grouper's pleasingly designed multipaned main interface window looks more chaotic and intimidating than it actually is, and some of the navigation buttons are a bit too small for our tastes. On the plus side, Grouper demonstrates top-notch performance; we had no trouble browsing shared libraries, listening to streamed music, or downloading files. We should note that although the application lets you freely swap most files, it disables this option for MP3s to keep potential lawsuits at bay. The inclusion of a chat feature is a definite plus, as is the built-in media player. Our main complaint with this app has to do with its slow launch--we stared at Grouper's big "G" logo for quite a while before the main interface showed up. However, by and large, Grouper doesn't disappoint and may help to usher in a new era of private file sharing.

Ares can enhance your file-sharing experience, thanks to its built-in audio/video player with full playlist support.

Download.com Review of Ares Galaxy

This peer-to-peer client not only searches for and downloads files but also lets you run a private filesharing network. Its clear interface makes managing shared files and downloads easy. Your shared files are organized into categories in a library section, although the program doesn't let you edit or add categories. Ares Galaxy includes features typical for filesharing clients such as file search by category or details, resumeable downloads from multiple sources, a media player with playlists, and chat. You can even host your own channel. Ares Galaxy does come bundled with NavExcel, a homepage hijacker, but you can choose not to install it during the installation process.

*Provided you are stupid enough to leave the boxes checked when installing.

sometimes I use bittorrent (for bigger files like movies or games), but mostly ed2k, 'cause you can get EVERYTHING there and it's saver that... for example... kazaa - and if I have to use kazaa, then only the LITE version (well, I think everybody knows that the original is spyware... :) )
