Why Do People Talk About What Linux Looks Like ?

Linux... Its a kernel
GNU is an Operating system without a kernel.

GNU/Linux is an Operating system. IF you are using it from a machine with an X server, it has a graphical user environment (Gnome) .

Gnome looks nothing like Windows or Mac unless ofcourse you use a Mac / Windows Theme (not included in GNU).

Ok... Kde bares a resemblance to Windows / Mac in is positioning of the clock / main menu / task bar.
But KDE is not part of GNU/Linux. KDE is just a desktop envronment for UNIX, which because of the nature of Linux, will also compile and run on Linux. Most distro's Ship with KDE, but most distro's will default to a gnome desktop.

Linux is a kernel, and should not be compared with other Operating systems based on what an Unrelated project's scrren shots are like.

When Linux is compared to OS's like WIndows, comparasons should be made on things like Drivers and stability, (with linux you can completely update / install your all you driver's without a re-boot)

GNU/Linux is not related to KDE, just compatable.

There are many, many window managers and desktop envoronments out there...
all completely didderent, only one of them resembles windows.

Some people know what they are talking about and others dont! Some people know how to mount drives and others dont. I click on the drive letter to mount my drive in Windows. I know what your saying though. People want a cool OS to look at as well.

Linux can be made to look like anything, it's the basic skin they're talking about in KDE or GNOME I guess.Then again Windows can be made to look like anything too.

See, person. Most people are either stupid and think Linux=GNU/Linux, or they are lazy and don't want to bother to type the GNU since everyone knows what you mean anyway. Then for the looks, most neophytes say that because they think Red Hat, Mandrake, or SuSE are the whole of what GNU/Linux looks like. Newcomers. And Fluxbox is the prrreettiest and neeeaatest of the window managers. KDE and Gnome are monstrosities after you have tried Fluxbox.

Yeah.. fluxbox, blackbox, iceWM, XFCE, KDE, Gnome, Enlightenment.what can i say.... i like konqueror's level of integration, and i have a few xpu cycles to spare ;)some days i wake up and im lazy.. KDE, some times im a minimalist... iceWM, and oher times... i dunno, i just feel like Gnome.just annoys me when the ignorant say that linux is coppying windows because kde has a clock in the bottom right of the screen...Linux, and GNU are copyung UNIX (in terms of philosophy and standardisation)... and they are proud to do so.
