I am having the same problem too and I'm planning drastic measures: Formating my HDD and Never, say Never update Windows, cos all those fixes do a mess.

I'm not sure this is the way, but I (myself) got no choise..

You should all stay away from sp2!Do a google on " xp sp2 problem " and see for yourself. If you're already using a good firewall and a good anti-virus program, there's absolutely no need for sp2!To you who's experiencing this! Format the HDD, reinstall XP and everything prior to sp2 :P Then everything works like a charm again :o Edit: I've got 1 220 000 hits on that search :P cheers

WOW. Thats sad. I never bothered with XP, I use 2000 on my windows box. You might want to try it, its got a lots less random extra crap. If you don't need any of the things they added in XP, its otherwise the same thing, but without these problems.

My Suggestion. If you want to have a server envoirnment and you dont want to leave SP2, then install up an APACHE server. Only downside I see is, you dont get ASP. I also heard that , there is a mod for Apache which enables it to run aSP files. Do you have any idea about it.. If yes, I might try to get it installed on the server :P
