Like r3d, I use it to provide my site with dynamic content, like change a picture every day, to create a guestbook, to allow my visitors to post news and comments, to process forms with style and so on. Lastly I'm using it for customizing CMS applications. It's a very powerful language and very easy to learn.

I use PHP stuff (forums, etc.) but I don't know the language itself. It's not really necessary unless you want to put in hacks. I don't even know what hacks are, but I know they're codes or something. If someone could explain to me what hacks are I'd much appreciate it.Thanks.

A Hacks is when you mod you code to increas perfomance, securety or you add some function that the "standard" version hasn't, to do an hack on PhpBB code or Php-Nuke in general isn't very simple, because you have to know the class and the OO in general and know a lot of function about php, but if you are lazy :) there are many sites that create them for you, and you have only to modify the source code of the page....but Know a lang as Php is a very good stuff for me...

I know what you mean by security, but what do you mean by performance? Would a hack make my forum go faster or something? That would be super fast 'cause my forum is already pretty fast.

It is nice having people to make the php things (ex. phpBB, Invision board, etc) and all you have to do is install them. After hearing what hacks are, I think I am gonna make a stab at learning basic php. Other than that a php cms or something could take you a while to make.

Well, I "semi-know" the language. I never really tried a tutorial. I get scripts at hotscripts and dive into the code and change things around like adding options so I know my users email. Make them point to my databases if i want to know a user's email or something.

I say performance, like Fast Reply module(On Xisto's forum too) and some PhppBB hacks that provide to cut some useles functions and reduce the number of the scripts loaded in all page of the forum... :)

Well, I know what PHP is, but I can't do much with it. I need to learn a whole bunch more, hopefully I can find a great techy who would be willing to help out on my site once I get it up >_< My brother wanted to teach me PHP and what not, but he hasn't yet.

I totally agree, I'd be lost without Invision board. It's so simple to use. That's my kind of thing, just put in the information and you're good to go.

Right now, HTML is common and PHP is popping up everywhere. A few years ago, HTML was the thing. PHP was used for forums. But web pages (personal and business, not search engines) were made using HTML. Now, PHP is around. Do you think PHP is going to be the HTML of tomorrow? Or will something else like XML be the HTML of tomorrow?
