Mozilla with adblock Sick of pesky ads?

Recommended Posts

Well, I don't mind google ads, they aren't intrusive, but every now and again, popups/popunders and flashy siezure type ads really get on my nerves and I had been using adblock on mozilla and thought it'd be worth sharing to other users, who too use mozilla.

There's also some more good development addons for mozilla, but for now I will tell you how to get adblock and install it for Mozilla (only tested on Linux like operating system).

Go to: http://adblock.mozdev.org/ in Mozilla | Click on the link Install at the top | Click on Dev. Build | Scroll down a bit and click on Adblock 0.5 d2 nightly 39 and from there Mozilla will ask you if you want to install, say yes, enable it, close mozilla and reopen it and now you should have adblock.

If ads bypass the block, just right- <- snipped -> and click Adblock ? where ? could be image, iframe, etc, you can also use wild cards (*) so if you know more ads would exists from there, just delete what would stay common and then ad a wildcard and you'll no longer be bothered by them again.

Cheers, MC}

Yep, this truely is the greatest browser... i use adblock with firefox !im pretty sure it works in windows too... but who cares :)(im a fellow linux user)anyways... after a dew days of seeing the occasional AD, and adding it to the filter list, ive not seen an add since... not a single banner or anything !i find you can kill most of the ads by filtering "*/ads/* and "*/ad?*"i think its safe to say.. IE lost the browser wars !true,,, we all though IE had won the browser wars and killed off netscape... but then netscape joined forced with Open source... and came back as mozilla (gave birth to firefox) then well and truely smote IE into the ground....i think it would be a smart move if Microsoft scrapped IE and un-intergrated it for Longhorn....Lets face it...an OS with No web browser but an optional Firefox browser has to be better than a crap integrated Browser that every1 sniggers at.

Yeah, Internet Exploder just doesn't have anything going for it. I haven't used adblock myself (Safari does that for me, you know :)) but I've heard lots of good stuff about it. Ditto on Mozilla. Hadn't realized Mozilla was Netscape in a prior lifetime... hm, interesting.

Mozilla was the original code name for Netscape Navigator, Netscape launched the Mozilla open source project in 1998 when they released their own source code. Netscape uses the development of Mozilla to aid their own browser development. A lot more contributors are from Mozilla and their community rather than the people over at Netscape, but both browsers are similar, although Netscape maybe more corporate orientated with the additions they include to their browser, some type of partnership they have with them.

Well, I'm a WinXP user myself, so I know that adblock works on win too.  I mean, who would build an adblocker that would only work on linux?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yes I tested it out with Mozilla for Windows and it works as well, I only questioned it because of how different linux and windows are from each other, that building portable software is no easy means.

Although if the tables were turned, who would (should!) build an adblocker that would only work with IE on Windows... Microsoft would be one, and there'd be a few more.

I've been using Mozilla Firefox for about 2 years now and i really love it. Thanks to my friend who introduced me to it. For those of you who still use IE, think about your computer's safety & security. Better switch to Mozilla Firefox. It has lots of features that IE doesn't have. =)

actually after changing to windows xp sp2... i notice it came with ads block... whenever it block ads, an bar appear above the page... if u need the popup... simply click the bar and a popup menu come out with additional options that correspond to the what happening... if its a popup, it came out with options that respond to popup situation like temporary allow popup or permenantly allow the popup... refresh for u and the popup appeared... if its scripts that may endanger your pc... i automatically block for u but also appear the bar to let u temporary allow the scripts or permenantly allow the scripts... something like tat... same goes to download... its very intiutive and i like these feature... while for others browsers... when something get block... u need several clicks and go into the setting page to allow popup... not so for sp2 ie... i love every part of sp2 ie becuz its really a good improvement to sp1 or windows xp... not just only ie... but the only worries is the performance problem i heard which may cause if u use ram with 256mb and below... which put me in a situation on whether or not to upgrade my pc to sp2... and 1 more worries is the lack of spyware block in sp2 ie which mozilla firefox have... if sp2 have it... it would be perfect... ya it does lack tab browsing which is very useful... but i'm not really concern abt it becuz last time i use to use tab browser and i keep forgeting which browser the website i need is at... it take several alt tab to find my page... which is aren't very friendly for me... to me having it in your task bar is better... becuz of my frequent use of alt tab... but tab browsing does group/organizing your browsing better... but not every1 make full use of it... and not every1 need it... sp2 really make windows xp very clear, intiutive, easy to use and user friendly... to me... tats everything... and i guess that to alot of people out there... i prefer sp2 ie compare to mozilla firefox in these area... security wise... its still mozilla firefox...
