Many members might remember OpaQue's decision to change the forum's name in this topic. Over the years, members have been constantly requesting for a more systematized version of the forum... So, OpaQue has been busy planning for quite a while, the transformation of our current forums into something bigger and better for both old members & new.

Now, before you suggest that we truncate / merge forums to solve the issue, there will be some merging done but that is not the solution because Xisto genuinely has a huge number of topics / posts. The purpose of this revamping is to make the forums friendlier for everyone while remaining informative & interactive.

This is what OpaQue has planned for the revamping :-

1. Renaming the Forums
2. Reorganizing the current main forums & sub forums
3. Redesign & Recreating the single Lo Fi version into multiple mini versions.

The domain name : Xisto.com will become the mini-site for spirituality-and-consciousness knowledge-consciousness/

Now, here is the fun thing, OpaQue wants to involve each and every member in this transformation because you, the members are the life of the forums. And it is only right that have a proactive part in this new process. We are listening to each and everything you have to offer / say :)

RENAMING THE FORUMS

You can see in the poll that there are three options for you to choose from, tell us which domain name would be best suitable for this new version of Xisto.com . If you have a funkier suggestion, don't hesitate in tossing it in.

REORGANIZING THE CURRENT MAIN FORUMS & ITS SUB FORUMS

This is a task mainly for me and OpaQue BUT we want to know what you want to add or remove from the forums. What you think should be merged. Keep in mind that we want to reduce the cluttered feeling so don't suggest a new sub forum unless there are plenty of topics to populate it with.

SEGREGATION OF THE FORUMS INTO MINI VERSIONS

You all by know about the alternative layout of the forums, this is the Lo Fi version unregistered members are shown by default. You also know that if you type trappedinsh!t.com (!=i) you get automatically redirected to the vent. Similarly livebusinesstalk.com redirects you to the Business Forum.

These two will be merged to create miniature versions of the forums that will show ONLY certain categories. For example :-

In the new version, If a person goes to livebusinesstalk.com he won't see the blue IPB forum BUT instead he will see a completely different layout with lots of features and topics ONLY from the Business forum. Similarly, the same will be done for other sections. Of course there will be one version similar to the current one so members can find a topic from any part of Xisto.com

So go ahead and check out the Lo Fiversion and give us your ideas on what you'd like to see there, it could be polls, ratings, feeds or anything else.. Let us know.

-- Your Questions Answered --

Why is this being done?

--
The goal is to give readers a more focused / concentrated selection of topics from sections they like through the mini sites. People wanting information on Google services would not want to read about cooking. The website would be more intuitive, interactive and organized making it easier and more fun for reading.

Will it affect members?

-- No, members who are registered and earning Mycent will not have to worry about the change. There will be no change in the way you post or earn Mycents :) However, we want to make the new Lo Fi versions useful to members also. Keep it simpler and easier for members to find topics of their taste.

We'd like you members to use this page when searching for a topic or staying in touch with a section you like.

So now that you know what is going on, don't fret and post all your questions, suggestions and critique.. Questions that repeat or considered important will be updated in this post :)

We need your Suggestions for 2 Domain Names. (The Poll Allows Multiple Choice :) )

1. For the main Forum. (i personally like talksense)
2. For the Free Web Hosting site (mini Site / category) where all Free Web Hosting related stuff will be put into.

Typing the new chosen domain will directly load the Forum (main version). The forums will no longer be a sub-folder /forums.As far as SEO is concerned, Its all been thought of :)The Lite Version will continue being called Xisto. But soon, this version will be split into many other domains. This Lite version - which members will rarely see - will be split into Category Specific Mini-Site of the main forums (to give better experience to Guest / First-time / Search Engine Visitors). Now - The main Forum name is to be changed to be catchy to spread by word-of-mouth. So, I personally prefer the name talkSense. ^_^As for the Free Hosting (mini site) to strictly promote free web hosting seo wise, I prefer freehostingwith.com and earnyourhost.com

Talksense is the one that seems the most "natural." The rest are a bit awkward and when trying to remember will be a lot like Xisto (a word that isn't so natural and that you have to think about it and possibly misspell often).

Well, to begin with, I chose "TALKSENSE" for the simple reason that I rarely talk sense myself. :ph34r:Another thing I could suggest might even be "EARNYOURHOST", as that is what many members are doing here too. Now, about the revamping, I think the forum could definitely do with some re-organisation of some of the forums and subforums, as it is sometimes difficult to see the wood through the trees.I have not given any possible constructive solution for that, but I soon will, as I was only mentioning right now what I see at first glance, but I shall be having a scan through the division of the general forum and talk about some of my findings, and probably suggest some possible solutions. One very positive thing, in my very humble opinion, is that the chosen domain will directly load the forum.I think it is a time saver, as most members who visit here (or at least, so I assume) probably come here to read through and post in the forums. But, anyhow, I will be back soon with (hopefully) some constructive talk.

I kind of think "earnyourhost" seems a bit too commercialized and is more based on earning things from the forums, rather than learning. The system seems to be designed more around creating a community, and I really don't think that domain would facilitate the image needed to do so.

Well, you said it. If it's about earning and learning then why not learnandearn or earnandlearn. For a materialistic world out there I'd prefer the second.

Granted, I'm not computer savy, but I am not sure I understand what is being proposed here. It almost sounds like the forums will be split up and all over everywhere on all different sites. Hard enough as it is now to read threw and find posts to reply to or start new topics when they are all on one web site. I still kinda like Xisto, at least that's easier to spell than Xisto :-)

Its not that complicated. The microsites will be running behind the scenes. The forums for the members will be the same.. but more organized and cool name.

So what Name you like best.. for the forum?

LOL, you probably don't want to hear this, but I still kinda like Trap 17. At least it was easy to spell and remember! :)

Yeah, I'm one of the old members who loved the old name! However, the past is the past and I am going to try to help the site move forward! Anyway... I think TalkSense is a GREAT name! It sounds pretty catchy and it kind of goes with our MyCENT system we have (Cent and Sense... kind of similar i suppose.) So.. twist of the tongue as you might want to call it.

Anyway, the BIGGEST problem I have with the forum is there are too many "forums" on the main page. It just looks so disorganized having to swift through so many forums -- many of whom don't really have many active topics or posts to them. So, I think with the new transition, we really need to make sure we can minimize as many of the inactive forums we can and try to merge together as many as we possibly could.

We also need to streamline links on the header so members get a CLEAR understanding of what the site is about. Because as it stands... it's so confusing to understand what entirely the site has to offer to us (with the free hosting) and then the various topics we can discuss.

I think both of those would fit, but then you run into an issue of what type of image OpaQue wants to portray. Sometimes I think he's trying to convey that this is just a community, and sometimes I think he wants it to be viewed more as a rewards platform. Having a clear understanding as to what he's trying to market the site as would help with determining what a good name for it would be.

As an old member I am also a fan of the old name Xisto if the name is to change. Some might say it would be like going back to the origins. But I find the current name as a very happy choice. It is harder to write, but it expresses the spirit of this forum very well. If it has to change and Xisto is not an option ForumsUnleashed is a nice option (although a little too commercial) or TalkSense.net which is easier to write.

I fully support the reorganizing of the main forum and the sub-forums. Some parts do really need to be expended... Like the news section - since it contains recent developments it will include some of the most discussed topics... they really need to be better organized - a few sub-forums for that would do the trick. On the other hand there are parts which should be contracted... like spirituality and consciousness or entertainment. (of course that is just my opinion as I do post quite a lot in the news section and I think I never posted in the spirituality and consciousness topic) To be as objective as possible any change should be done considering how active that sub-forum is.

As for the Lo-Fi version that will become mini-sites... Hope you won't be mad on me OpaQue for this - I do appreciate the effort (both in time and money) you put into this (I am also an open-source developer and I know some of the sacrifices), but I can't really understand why there is such a feature. I am sure it is hard to maintain for you, and more so with the mini-sites and I think your time is too precious to spend on such complicated feature that is only going to be seen by new (unregistered) users. I know you want to use it to attract new users, but I think there are other ways to do that... I have to admit that what got me into (what was named back then) Xisto was the free hosting... and the quality of the hosting... now that you can also buy domain names with MyCents it is even better. That should attract new users. But what kept me coming back was not the hosting, but the quality of the discussion, the exchanging of ideas, even the possibility to express myself in English.

I would like make a suggestion for the upcoming changes. It is an update to the MyCents system. I start from the basic idea that the forum has value if it has active users, so I would change the MyCents system in order to better reward day to day posting rather then many postings done once a month or once every two months. It doesn't have to change the current working system, but just to give something extra to the people posting every day while still keeping with the quality of the posts and everything else. On the other hand people posting a lot very rarely should take a loss. I would loose from such a change since I do not post every day, but it would be an incentive for me and other users to do so. Once again with the rules of quality in full force.

This is an excellent idea, and I agree that it would help foster more posting on a regular basis, rather than just throwing up a lot of stuff weekly/monthly. It could run on the same system/calculation now but add in the extra benefit based on posting x times within x period (ex. if 5 hours < posttime > 24 hours, grant bonus).

@ Mr. OpaQue - To get the forum to great heights just follow one simple tactic - Allow the users to transfer MyCents to PayPal and there you go .. Xisto/ Xisto/ Talksense .. whatever may be the name .. the forum is gonna be flooded with active members !
