Fridsade 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2012 I haven't had a stable home since I was 14, I'm now 17. Recently, I was staying at my cousin's house for 2 months and they told me I couldn't stay there any longer. Under the circumstances, I had no place to go except out of state. I've had a cat for about 4 years and I've had her since the minute she was born. I love her deeply. There was absolutely no way I can keep her for any longer and I couldn't take her with me. I had 3 choices... To either give her to a shelter and have them possibly euthanize her, to put her out on the streets for certain death or to give her away to a decent home myself. I obviously chose the third option. This is entirely my fault because I didn't start looking for a home for her until a few days before I left, there are no excuses for that and I won't try to make one. A day before I left I wrote a page long note telling whoever was going to find her all the wonderful things about my cat and how distinctive and unique she is. I placed the note in a carrying case and put my cat in it as well. I had noticed before a house with a cat sitting by the window and that's the house I took my cat too. I put the case with my cat and the note in it in front of the door, rang the bell and ran off. 2-3 minutes later I walked across the street and saw a lady standing there looking all confused. A part of me was relieved that somebody was home and another part of me was terrified not knowing whether they'd take her in. A few minutes later I saw a cop car driving on the same street that I dropped my cat off at. I was petrified because they probably called the cops and the cops were taking her to a shelter but I wasn't a 100% sure. Did I do the right thing? demonboy1990 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2012 i would guess you done the right thing someone will give her a home, a warm bed and some food but i think you should of giving her to someone you knew or to a cat home, but at least she will have a new home. ritu 1 Report post Posted August 7, 2012 I hope I am not asking for much but, what made you choose that particular house to drop your cat there. You seem to be quite attached to your pet, so there must be a strong reason for your preference that you thought your cat would be taken care of, as far as the cop driving on the same street is concerned, it might be some other house or even if the residents of that house called the cop, they might actually provide some better place to stay for your cat.I don't think that you should be feeling guilty because you had the intention of saving the cat from the rough life that you expect to follow for yourself, you should feel comforted that your cat would have by now reached a nice place to live in. What you did is considered dumping an animal, and is illegal and you can be arrested and charged with animal cruelty. I know you think it was your best option, and in these circumstance, it probably was the best choise, but it's just a shame you didn't have more time to try to find a real home for your cat.
