Ecommerce Influenced By Social Media?

Recommended Posts

The business world has been revolutionized because of the incorporation of the latest trends in technology. The internet , like in every other field, has managed to establish itself in the area of business also. The progress in the field of internet has directly benefited the information and communication field directly and the business transactions indirectly.People who are dedicated towards ecommerce, consider that marketing their company and their services on social networking sites like Facebook,Twitter,Youtube etc. thus creating sub divisions in ecommerce itself like social commerce, which is a way of promoting a business via social media and social shopping where the consumers and sellers are brought into contact. Moreover, the analysis and sharing experiences of shopping events online, takes place over social media and both buyers and sellers can establish contact with each other on these sites.Besides that, social networking sites also help create awareness in certain cases create reliability for particular products.Do you agree about the effect that social media casts on ecommerce altogether? Or you have a different view to share?

Oddly enough, there's been a lot of studies that seem to show that social media does not really influence the buying decision of people. I think it's the opposite (I mean, if someone you know has a good review of something, I'd think you would be more inclined to get it as well) but that's what people say.

In my opinion social networking websites can have a double edged sword effect on ecommerce. On one hand, the added exposure that an ecommerce website can receive will surely add brand recognition and possibly cause a viral boost in traffic. On the other hand, one bad experience for a single client can cause a viral spread of a bad review of the products or services of an ecommerce website. The benefits of social networking on ecommerce mostly lie in the added exposure and that is all. If something does go wrong however, and a customer gets upset and writes a bad review, the review can spread like wildfire and damage control can be nearly impossible.

Yes, agree with you. Social media is a fast and useful way to promote business and to make popular it very soon. It is most effective way to get customers online directly and to interact with them to sell your business.

This is very true as well, and we see it every day in the gaming/technology atmosphere (I guess maybe because people who are interested in them are more technologically able). What I've noticed is that in the majority of cases, when you find a post (whether on forums, a blog, etc.) about a product or service, they're usually negative. The argument for this is that the happy customers are more interested in utilizing said service/product than writing about it, while the unhappy ones are more interested in keeping others away.

I've seen a lot of cases where the overall image of something is skewed greatly because all you find when you look at reviews are the negative, and yet they only represent the minority (and a very small piece of that).

Yes of course ecommerce is highly influenced by all the social media out there. And not only ecommerce can benefit from social media... any business can take some advantage from being 'social'.First if all the social media like Facebook, Twitter and so on are extremly powerful advertising platforms. Doing a great advertising campaign, with interesting and valuable prizes, something that gets tons of 'likes' with surely attract attention and increase sales of any enterprise... online of offline. Also each campaign also improves the chances of future campaigns. Not only you can increase the brand value, but you can also advertise the products directly. And even if that advertising is expensive it can be very well targeted to the visitors that need to be attracted.Second keeing in touch with the customers allows businesses to get free feedback, feedback which otherwise would cost a lot to get. Not only that, but a customer that sees a company is interested not only before buying, but also after buying will sure make a second order. It does give added value to the brand while also providing a platform to keep in touch with the customers, their needs... in other words to keep in touch with the latest market trends. So yes social media can have a tremendous influence on ecommerce.

I think this is something a lot of people seem to miss. The feedback part. Companies spend millions (billions collectively) every year to learn about their customers, their wants/needs, how they use products, etc. Social media gives that for free, plus often gives more intimate opinions.

That's not to say that social media is a be-all-to-end-all, but when used in conjunction with other methods, it's definitely a valuable tool!
