A Kindle Is An E-Book Reader Not A Tablet!

A week ago, I finally got a kindle 3^rd generation model (this is the one with wifi & keyboard). And let us establish one thing very clearly, I am completely in love with my kindle. I love reading and make it a habit to always spend my time reading something or the other; at times it is required for me to research plenty on a topic.

 

Since books are either bulky, expensive or delicate, it was getting difficult for me to read an entire book in one continuous session. Instead I was forced to carry one book while traveling and read another while at home. Having a kindle was the ultimate solution to everything I needed especially since I no longer needed to strain my eyes in front of a screen or sit in an awkward position.

 

And as you can figure out from my infatuated ramblings above, the kindle is really a blessing for me BUT obviously with every blessing comes a curse. Whenever you have someone dear to you, you will always have this one imbecile behaving like a tomcat in heat around you and your loved one..(I was pretty upset ). For reasons known only to the universe, I am always around people, I will call these people "group of people". When I got my kindle I expected them to simply acknowledge the fact that I got a kindle and say nothing more....

 

BUT... that is not to be.. These red bummed baboons have decided to irk me real good with their incessant comparisons, they keep comparing the kindle "AN E BOOK READER" to Ipad " A TABLET", Samsung Galaxy , "ANOTHER TABLET" and Aakash "OMG ANOTHER TABLET THAT HASN'T EVEN RELEASED".. Trying to make them understand the reason behind buying a kindle is useless since these pea brained rodents buy their gadgets by the zillions of half developed features rather than the few fully developed features. One of them insisted that the kindle should have come with a sim card setup, me mentioning the fact that I bought an e-book reader to read and not for the call feature was pointless.. Carrying one e-book reader & 1 phone is less bulky than carrying one regular sized tablet but **sigh** suddenly the kindle's e-book reading facilities were null & void because it did not support GSM but supported WI-FI..

 

A pdf reader on a tablet does not even measure up by a percent to a kindle's readability, I read for hours on a stretch and this is possible only with a kindle or a real book though I used to do the same with computers with the consequence of eye strain.

 

So there I go again, explaining to them that I don't really care for anything but the reading interface, I don't care whether it has wi-fi since I know I won't use it as USB does the job fine for me. But nope, it is unacceptable that I would allow the WI-fi to stay but not demand for GSM.. The fact that not everything can be stuffed into one product does not enter their minds.. Why would I risk deprecating the quality of my reading experience because I wanted extra features my E-BOOK READER does not need. Trying to explain the simple fact that I picked an ebook reader for READING & use the computer for all other purposes is simply not enough.. It was especially hurtful since one cretin decided to say aloud "anyone interested in an overpriced black and white T.V?" while pointing at my kindle.. I would have really liked to punch cretins like him in the mouth since he didn't have to say anything if he didn't approve of my kindle.

 

Sad enough, my parents who aren't tech savvy understood the purpose of my kindle more than these ignorant Neanderthals. It was getting really annoying that I had to DEFEND my kindle in a battle that was not even supposed to happen.. Ludicrous! I mean, just because you like shoes with Velcro, lace, buckles & elastic does not mean you add ALL of it to one pair of shoes. I am more than happy to buy different pairs for different purposes. The same way I don't mind CARRYING A TOTAL WEIGHT OF 750 GRAMS in my duffel bag.

 

I was thankful that at least one of my friends fully understood and supported my kindle.. I guess there is still hope on this planet.. But I can't blame them in a way since today's market has spoiled the public. Each company is trying to deliver the ultimate "everything" without really catering to specific tastes.

 

All I know is that these idiots need to get off my back before I go ape **** on them

Yeah, the kindle is super light and much faster since it doesn't have a lot of junk apps in it. And like I said, I bought a device primarily for reading and not working, I have my computer for working. As for the pathetic apes, it has become a plumage comparison nowadays when it comes to technology... There should be as many features in a device as much as the number of feathers on the tail of a peacock irrespective of how the quality turns out to be..

Sure, if the conversation was about tablets, I would have said the kindle could not match to some other tablets but a. the kindle is not a tablet & b. the discussion wasn't remotely about tablets lol . It was like comparing a rat to a cat and pointing out that the rat is useless because it is small and can do a limited number of things o.O I don't mind the attitude if they understood my reasons and requirements but they simply charged along without knowing anything.

Hope you had a nice holiday otherwise and if you decide you don't want your kindle... I'd love to have it!

I know what you are looking at when you say that the Kindle is an e-book reader and not a tablet, but I do have to tell you something... the Kindle and the Kindle Touch are e-book readers, but the Kindle Fire is a tablet. The Kindle Fire does not have an e-Ink display or the long battery life that the Kindle Touch and the Kindle have.

I have a blog post about the Kindle Fire comparing the Kindle Fire to the Apple iPad 2 and the Nook Tablet at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ where you will notice that the Kindle Fire has components that match up to the Nook Tablet for the most part and it is comparable to the iPad 2. The Kindle Touch and the Kindle, however, are e-book readers and match up to the likes of the Sony Reader.

Having said that, I would like to add that I prefer e-book readers to tablets because I have my laptop computer to do what a tablet would. If I could justify the cost, I would get a tablet-convertible laptop. My e-book reader is something that I carry with me everywhere and has to come with a battery that can survive a whole day of always-on operation without getting too heavy. my Sony Reader Touch gives me a whole week while the newer Sony Reader Touch gives a month of battery life (unless you are using WiFi).

My grandparents just got a Kindle Fire for Christmas and I agree - it's definitely a tablet. I don't see much use of it myself since I have a laptop for portability and the Fire weighs a bit as well. I haven't fully tested the battery on the Fire yet, just messed around with it to download some books and stuff for them, .

Did you install any updates on the Kindle Fire?If you are looking for something light, I would recommend the Sony Reader. It supports pdf and epub formats and those are the two most popular formats out there. Also, the Sony Reader automatically changes the layout of the text when you zoom in so you do not have to constantly scroll from side to side to read a page. Also, the Sony Reader doubles up as an MP3 player; you can also hook it up to the auxiliary input of your car's audio system to take your music with you while on the go.I did have a blog post about the Kindle Fire that I posted some time back and while looking for more information about the Kindle Fire, I found some very negative comments about the usability. However, there are lots of negative remarks about the Aakash tablet, the Ubi Slate 7, and the Apple iPad so all I can say is that there are negative comments everywhere - you have got to experience the product for yourself to be able to really determine if it is the tablet/ebook reader for you.

There are slight issues with the way it responds when you are flipping through books (like sometimes it just... I guess doesn't feel right?) but there's really not any big problems I've experienced with it. The only things I did with it though were watch a movie (Amazon VOD -- the Fire comes with a free month of Prime, by the way) and add a few books.

I know it can do more like go online and all but that's what a PC is for, .
