Recommended Posts

Ok I think this is the best and the correct section where I can post my questions since its all about website
and xampp Im trying to test a and train myself in wordpress blog platform so I tried installing it and run it to my
local server with the use of xampp currently I am having a problem sometimes with it when I am trying to access the
LOCALHOST/wordpress all I can see is a white blank page can anyone help me? please I am badly stock in this and don't
know what should I do to make it work the xampp is running correctly with mysql and the apache but still can't see the wordpress
but late yesterday I can still access it and its fine but today after turning on my computer and tried to access the wordpress
I can't make it appear.

Another question is can a local host server and site can it be able to be online? I mean I want to show the site
to my friend using only xampp is this possible? how can I do it? and what tools do I need to get? Do I need to port forward
and have a router? I don't have a router and my Internet connection is only a broadband modem please help
me to figure this out thank you so much and have a blessed day :)

Unfortunately, i cannot help you here, as i don't work with XAMPP (as i install Apache, MySQL and PHP manually) and (or) WordPress (as i make my own scripts instead). But the fact that you are getting a blank page shows that at least Apache is running. Try making a test script in PHP and see if you can execute it through your local server.

All you have to do is give them your IP address when Apache is running and you are connected to the internet. Just make sure no firewall is blocking whatever port Apache is using (which is most likely port 80). Since you are not using a router, you don't have to forward any ports.

Go to http://obsolete.whatsmyip.org/

Your ip address is then shown at the top. Give that to your friend and then make sure XAMPP is running and disable your firewall on port 80. You should be able to add an exception rule something like "allow all on port 80" you would normally be asked to select all/disallow from a drop down list, then select the port number.

That should then work.

"It didn't work" is not enough information to help troubleshoot. Your IP address doesn't need to be static in order for others to visit the website hosted on your local server (though it need not be limited to a website—you can share other files as well). If visiting LOCALHOST/ displays something other than a 404 "Not found" page that doesn't relate to your modem's configuration (e.g. if it shows the words "It works!"), then navigating to your IP address in a browser should show the same thing. If it doesn't show what is expected, then either Apache isn't running, port 80 is being used by another program, your firewall (if any) is blocking port 80, or something else is preventing access.

how can I know if port 80 is being used by another program? because I don't know how and it says it works when I type "LOCALHOST" or "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; and its fine but when I do try to put my Ip address I can't access it I think the apacheis running because it says to the control panel of the xampp that it is running I am sorry about this I am a tech noob :)hope you can help me figure it out

A port scanner might help you determine which port is being used by which program. Also, the more advanced firewalls may inform you also. I can't recommend any port scanner, though, so you'll have to go through trial and error on this.
Have you checked if the Windows firewall isn't blocking port 80?

try to check your firewall settings and the blocked ports so you know if the port 80 is being block most firewallblock port 80 as I knew and about the port scanner theres alot of program like that just try to use our precious searchengines so that you can easily get it just make a research first about the program because some programs are very hazardous for your computer
