Im interested now as i see a lot of my mates dont use ad blocking software and i just dont understand it!The last time i had an annoying pop-up was well over a week ago and i dont see any flash ads, the last animated ad i saw was weeks and weeks ago and it was a GIF image which was promptly blocked :)So, if you *dont* use ad blocking software then why not?
I use Ad blocker when I search internet for some serious work. If I casually browse internet I won't use Ad blocker. And if I like that website I click and check some ads. I disable ad blocker to encourage website owners. Most people are creating websites and providing information just to earn some money through it. And some people use that money to maintain their websites, to pay server costs etc. If everyone uses ad blockers these websites will no longer available. How do we expect them to spend money from their pockets just to provide some information to the world? Most people won't. Only some non-profit organizations can do this. So some sort of encouragement is needed for them. Ads will give that encouragement to them. That's just like content selling. Its nothing but business. May be your friends are not using ad blocking softwares for this reason.
I hate popups and flash ads. But i do like other banner ads/text ads as they are the source for my most of the online earnings. That is why i support those banner ads and text ads. But pop-up and flash ads take some resources of your browser so it is better to block them. Some music sites are such annoying that they pass firefox's restriction of op-up blocking. Ad-block plus works well in that case.
I think it's a case that my mates either dont know how or cant be bothered, theyre not big PC users!I understand the need for revenue but the adverts that get shown are truly awful. Advertising works with me, if i like the advert i will usually buy the product, consciously because the advert made me laugh. On the other hand if i dont like an advert (Virgin media...Coke Zero etc...) i will deliberately avoid the product. So perhaps if they made decent adverts i wouldnt hate them so much but to be bombarded with "YOUR COMPUTER HAS A VIRUS CLICK HERE ASAP" When im running linux im just like WTF... *click* and then get shown a "My Computer" screen with my C drive labelled with a billion malwares... yeh nice one LINUX! It's just trash! Or online poker, cars stupid perfumes advertised by the most irritating, immoral people in the world GRRR they make me mad!The only site i visit regularly is T17 to be honest, the rest are just click through to get info so the ads are well blocked there
I also have an auto click through addon to get rid of the "Your download will start after this advert Click below to skip." AUTO-SKIP yay :DGood times.Come to think of it i expect people with ad revenue sites hate meOh, by your previous post, I thought that your friends are consciously avoiding ad blockers.
I think it's a case that my mates either dont know how or cant be bothered, theyre not big PC users!Yes, ads somewhat similar to content we are reading is Ok. But ads like "Your PC has errors" etc.. are truly annoying and meaningless. That's just cheating. I too hate those type of ads. Mostly computer illiterates click those type of ads. Trusted advertising partners like Adsense will not provide these type of ads.

Well i try to get them to install ABP but they decline so they will have to suffer!I dont mind text links and like you said, relevant ads. If I'm on T17 in the creative forum in the poetry section for example and i see an ad that advertises some sort of free online dictionary, thesaurus and other tools or even an ad for a website that promotes writing etc... then im fairly likely to click it, but if i see an ad for dog collars im just going to turn ABP back on!I also tend to avoid clicking the banners themselves and instead do a google search for the company, but that's just me being awkward because im interested in the site but i dislike the ad. Im a pain like that...They will not suffer cause those flashing and pop-up ads are sometimes blocked by opera and firefox(if they set pop-up blocker). By any chance if they get into site like the one overrides firefox's blocker setting then in that case they have trouble.

What i have seen in internet cafes is, if people are surfing porn and illegal warez type of content then pop-up blockers and ABP is must. Also scrip-block extention is must else there are chances of getting keylogger or dialer installed on system. So that's why most of the internet cafe pc's are infected with virus (unless those cafes are from ISP services like hathway, vodafone where they have their own software that restricts any installation from internet).
Ask your friends to install sandboxie, that way they will be protected from any malicious script installation. And they can avoid ABP in this case, let some people earn some bucks as well
I havn't seen one in ...forever
