Java & Java Script why java script is diffrent from java

Recommended Posts

Moved from Role Playing Games to Java & Java Script. Please pay attention to where you make topics. Thanks. The Java language was in fact named from a list of random words :) It started initially as Oak, then Green, then finally Java.JavaScript was coined by Netscape, originally as Mocha, then LiveScript. It seems like JavaScript was picked to cause confusion with Java, support for which had been added to Netscape's browser. Using the name JavaScript implied some sort of connection. It's also possible to link the original name, Mocha, to Java via coffee, so JavaScript could be a sort of combination of the previous two names for the language.

As rvalkass told, only the names have some similarity.. and its due to some marketing reasons. Apart from that they don't have any connection. Java is a fully fledged programming language. Java is widely used for desktop and server side web applications. In contrast javascript is just scripting language which will work on client side web browsers.. It was designed to enhance the user interface of a website..

If I'm not wrong, Javascript is fairly easier to use - you could call it a "diet" programming language! But it's got nothing to do with Java at all...

Yes you are right, javascript is very easy to learn and use. But its functionality is very limited. Its not a stand alone programming language. It only works in a browser.
But anyway its programming experience will help you a lot when learning other programming languages.

They both have different set of usage. Unless you use JSP/Servlets you'll not able to see Javascript working with java. And for desktop based application rarely have chance to be with javascript. Just similar names, i guess when netscape was working on this java applets were ruling the market. So it is possible that they pick the name from java for their script.

Javascript is easy to learn if you're into web development already else both languages have their own learning curve in my opinion. It's just that we can learn javascript fairly quickly but for java we need some time by correcting some errors and knowing some OOP concepts.
