Website For School Project

I'm sorry that I haven't been active for a while. I've just been so busy. My simple question is about a website I will be making for a school project. It's part of GPS2 or Global Problem Solving 2. My topic is homelessness and poverty. The site I will be making is going to have lots of links and even more info. What should I use? I already have a great host. *hint hint Xisto* I was thinking something along the lines of Joomla!. What do you say? thx

I don't really know what to say, but I thought I might reply because nobody did and the number of posts from me might actually push your thread down into the next page of "New Posts" or even off the list altogether. But anyway, here is what I usually do...Well, my school has Microsoft Office Front page and all that, so we just usually make a website on the computer and then put the links on and all that. So we don't have to actually host it up and all that. In fact, I've got a commerce assignment due next Tuesday and I'm doing it on Scams... and guess what?I'm making a website on that! I've got the template ready on Photoshop, but sadly I don't have Frontpage at home so I'll have to do the whole thing at school (assembly them together, put the links in and all that) but I get to write all the content up at home and do the templates at home too... (and no coding required since Frontpage is a WYSIWYG editor).So we are in similar situations in some ways, except for the fact that you are looking for things that you should use, but you don't need a host. I don't really know if using Xisto as your host is such a great idea, as even the most basic plan (Logic Plan) needs money and you are on negative myCENTS now (not that you'll have to post a lot to catch up, but still...).Maybe you should just find a free host instead and do it from there. I really want my site to be up on the real Internet as well, but my school blocks most sites off (what they deem as uneducational, but most of the time they just block out the whole Internet as they seem to deem most things "uneducational"), so it wouldn't work anyway.So in my suggestion... just forget the hosting part and all that... do it on a WYSIWYG editor (if you have one) or code it yourself if you can and just give the not uploaded copy of the pages, images, index and all that to you teacher.But it really just depends on your situation...Good luck with your site!!!

i am a student too.. ive got that kind of project and it takes time for me to build a website since we are not able to use Photoshop because of the rules they instructed us to just use gimp we also use microsoft frontpage and it was cool and easy to use but i am not saying that i am great with that tool.@nameless just download microsoft frontpage if you don't have it? as far as i know it is included into the microsoft office? because mine was included i don't think yours would also.. what is your OS anyway?to the author you don't have to be that kind of active but you must post in order for you to earn more mycent if you want to make your site stable..

Please for the love of all that is coded dont use frontpage....It really is the worst piece of software (windows Vista aside) that was ever created.It insists on using absolute paths to images and such instead of relative. So when you make the site on your hard drive it will link images like <img src="C:\Documents and Settings\shadowx\My Documents\Website\images\image01.jpg"> and that just wont work on the web. In fact, i lie. It will work perfectly *for you* and anyone else that happens to have an image called "image01.jpg" and have their windows logon name as "shadowx". Im not saying you need to learn HTML, actually, yes i am. If you want to specifically make a website yourself you need to learn HTML, even if you use a WYSIWYdG (What you see is what you *dont* get) editor like frontpage you need to learn HTML to change the image paths, add forms that actually work and make the website work in firefox, and to make it show up in search engines and to have decent effects like rollovers etc... Frontpage just cant do this!!!!!!!You could use a CMS like joomla, but you still need a very basic understanding of websites and how they work. But i definitely suggest using a CMS like joomla instead of WYSIWYG editors.

yes i got such projects also to make before, and i fon't agree about Frontpage.. it's cool and good, easy to use for beginners, and talking about the image Path.. You don't have to Work with the Standard way, mean : C:\Documents and Settings\shadowx\My Documents\Website\

It's NORMAL that it's give you this Path because Frontpage take it as a Root Path...

But if you creat a Directory at D: or C: , Call this Directory Whatever you want to, it's will work Perfectly, i Do Always Use Frontpage and since more than 6 years.

So, the easy fast way is Downloading a Template and You edit it, as long as it's Allowed to do it hehe.

The Second way is like you said : joomla, it's good Way and there is also a lot of themes to working with hehe
