Looks like we're being used for SEO now, rather than blatant advertising. I know there's not a lot we can do to stop them, but I've noticed quite a few of these posts dotted around the forums.
Interesting. The linking method of this version of the forums should prevent any benefit for their side. There should be a way to enforce coloring on a link regardless of its context, maybe with the !important CSS keyword.
Does that form of SEO still work if the link is actually pointing to http://forums.xisto.com/redirect.php instead of the actual website, or do search engines actually pay attention to the redirect? The redirect that is currently in place, from what i've observed, does not help concerning page rank. The redirect probably detects search engine bots and redirects them to the forum's index—though i have to verify this. But we still can't have people hiding text, whether they're a bot or casual users.

*I think* the redirect.php is used to track departures from the Forum. Using this method, Opaque can track the links that are being clicked here at Xisto and also track the URL the member/guest is being sent to. A link that a member posts is reconfigured as a bbcode style tag and then gets pointed to the redirect script which then parses the URL and tracks the exit from the Forum.
I presume the spam is automated (or they don't stick around for long enough to notice the links get run through the redirection script) so it is still being done as an attempt to boost page rankings in search engines.
Hmm that is a interesting spam, do they leave links to their sites at all because then re can report them and stuff. Might have to go old school and ban more IP numbers again. I am not sure if OpaQue added the no-follow to the forums at all, of course it wouldn't help those members who are hosted here at all though if the that is running.Obviously some people didn't realize that we know about the invisable text trick. Definately will have to keep an eye on posts to look for it again. Of course, truefusion might be onto something about changing the link in the post, but I find it interesting the deafault got overrided like that though. So we might have to disable the use of colors in forum if it starts to become bad, but I know that would affect a lot of posts though if it does come down to that.
