Youtube Now Has The Option To Have An Audio Preview Of Your Comments (from xkcd)

Recommended Posts

Youtube has actually implemented an idea from the popular web comic XKCD.

This comic was posted on xkcd on Thursday Sep 25, 2008 at about 9:00 PM:

Well today you tube has added an extra button when you decide to post a text comment, as shown here:

Hopefully this will cut back the amount of junk comments that are posted every day on videos.

Hmm, yeah, I like the idea a lot, but it could be better if they for an example, made the voice like a cranky teenager girl (who most usually comment on YouTube vids) and to make the effect more dramatical ^_^

Hopefully this will cut back the amount of junk comments that are posted every day on videos.

Nope that wouldn't happen 'cause most of the people won't even hit the button. They'll just hit post comment. Oh and another idea, make the "Post Comment" button smaller, something like "Post" and "Audio Preview" to something longer, like "Listen to your comment" so people who are lazy must fight their way to hit the "Post" button because the other button would be bigger  Edited by miladinoski (see edit history)

Haha, that's pretty funny. Usually comments are so short there would be no point to wanting them to be read aloud. I unfortunately doubt this will cut back on the spam since it is not mandatory to listen to you message. If they required you to listen to messages before posting every time, then that craze back when everyone (except me it seemed) would post these annoying long chain messages would not have been so major..

Haha, I had so much fun last night writing weird stuff in Norwegian and listening to it. It is awesome, thought the voice is kind of boring. I loved the teenager idea to miladinoski, that would be great! Also it is good for people like me that sometimes are having problems with spelling and stuff. It is easy to notice mistakes when listening to it.

lmao it actualy took me a while to realize it was reading my comments, haha since i use a lot of symbols and abreviations when i type, when i pressed the buttom that usually was the post comment one, my computer talked to me, and i was just kinda like.. WOAHH lol did youtube add some sort of advertising? is this a virus? [long story made short, i panicked and closed my browser ] but after like 5 failed attemps, i realised the thing was actualy reading what i was leaving as a comment

That's a pretty cool idea and implementation. I never really considered that before, but I wonder how much it will help. You have to consider the following scenarios.1)A lot of people(I assume) are like me and always have their sound off, so they/I won't hear the speaking anyways.2)Most of the morons that post those messages would love to hear it speak it back, because they get their enjoyment off flaming and/or being flamed. It could end up increasing the number of negative comments.Either way, great idea as a test. Sadly, I never post comments so I didn't ever notice/know about that until now. Maybe now I'll post one just so I can hear it repeat it back, :).

Wow! that's a pretty cool new feature :) The comic's pretty funny tooBut i agree with rbgsearcherz, there are plenty of people out there who would absolutely love to hear their moronic comments read aloud back to them. They'd totally get a kick out of it.Still, pretty cool, going to go try it out now!

@y4nziI was thinking about this and actually spoke to my mother about it. The more I think of it the more I think it may be a mistake adding it. Nothing beats the joy of saying "HAHAHA, IT CUSSED AT ME!" and doing it over and over.In fact, I think it would be pretty entertaining to keep typing things into it just to see how it mispronounces words. I remember doing that with other programs in the past, where it converts text to speech. On the other hand, the amount of comments may also jump because of it(Talking about the good ones, not the negatives). I have seen many different videos that have thousands of views yet nobody has ever commented on them. Youtube is a great place to hone your skills at. You get the exposure you need and you can get the needed feedback to improve on your videos.

Things are getting more streamlined with better web scripts and as days go bye, we are experiencing new technologies being implemented in addition to the current ones or replacing for a better one. Not all changes are good but they are meant to give a better and safer, well furnished information to the end user. The possibilities are limitless but we will see some great changes soon in the way the web is going ahead. The availability of faster pc and higher bandwidth is changing the web altogether. Now its time to gear up for the future.

This is incredibly funny to mess around with. I wish you could choose to hear any comment. I also can't really find a real purpose to this, haha. Maybe if you write an insanely long comment and what to hear it. But who does that?

That was a nice comic. I think that this is going happen as it has been in discussion for quite a while.I think their goin to put videos as comments as well. For audio, your text will be converted into audio be a high class php software.I think that they actually dont need to make it as it is going to cost them and it is a completely waste of time
